Did Domestic Violence Play a Role in Lacey Gaines’ Murder
by holliston2012
Lacey Gaines was murdered on December 7, 2009 in her rundown apartment in Justice, Illinois. While speculation has run rampant about who did it, there are still no suspects. She did have a child with a boyfriend who she later told people physically beat her. Daniel Rogelio Sanchez, Lacey told friends, co-workers, family and social [...]

Hmmm. In re: to 'rundown apartment'....Justice apartments (and there are many, many, many complexes off of 79th Street up to 87th Street....LOOK rundown on the outside - they are old construction, with not well-kept lawns (speaking generally of course) but the inside is nice in many of them. Comparatively speaking, rent in a two bedroom on the Southside of Chicago, where I live, is about $950, and the same apartment in Justice would gofor about $650. There are landlords who will rent to those who are not legal citizens, and so you have a heavily-immigrant area (Polish and Hispanic.) But I wouldn't necessarily label it rundown. That's just my two cents for anyone who is thinking about this case.
For what it's worth, Justice is a (relatively) low-crime area-maybe property crimes, theft, etc, but I can't imagine that Justice has had to deal with many murder cases. Could this be a part of the problem?

"If you don't have enough evidence to charge someone criminally but you think he's illegal, we can make him disappear." Those chilling words were spoken by James Pendergraph, then executive director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Office of State and Local Coordination, at a conference of police and sheriffs in August 2008.

This maybe what happened in Lacey’s case. The police said they had a very good suspect. Just not enough evidence to prosecute.

Bumping for Lacey....we are coming up on four years now. Where is the justice for this young mother?

Lacey Claire Gaines (20) ~ On December 7, 2009, Lacey mother of one, was found murdered inside the kitchen of her Justice, IL apartment. Reportedly, police found no evidence of forced entry, robbery, or sexual assault. The victim was found strangled--an electrical cord wrapped around her neck and her throat cut. Her young son was visiting a relative at the time of death. Authorities believe that Ms. Gaines knew her attacker, but no arrests have been made and the crime remains unsolved.

From original Chicago Tribune article:
Lacey Gaines Chicago Tribune Article 3 yrs NOT SOLVED http://www.scribd.com/doc/115959851/Cops-Justice-woman-s-murder-was-isolated-incident

Police chief fired in Chicago suburb of Justice

JUSTICE, Ill. (AP) -- A suburban Chicago police chief has been fired over allegations he failed to properly discipline an officer accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a patrol car.

Robert Gedville's dismissal is also linked to a consulting arrangement he had with a red-light camera vendor.

It's so frustrating. First you have the Justice PD that almost criminal
in their handling of this (and I'm referring to REFUSING any outside
help), and then you have others FIGHTING people who want to find out what really happened to her.

It makes no sense! I just don't understand. Do they not realize that
they don't have the "right" to decide that justice doesn't need to be
served in Lacey's murder?

Justice is not just the name of a town!

My feeling are that the problems in the Justice Police Dept go much deeper than are now apparent and an investigation by the State's Attorney and/or the FBI is certainly warranted. I am asking please look at the handling and investigation of my niece's murder.

I am working on a new site for Lacey. Same URL www.laceygaines.com I am trying to tie things together. Before I go to Vegas and speak on DV. I'd appreciate and criticism. I know I have some problems but I am trying to make it more of a factual site with links to websleuths and other articles lots of pics, etc.
I really appreciate any feedback you guys are tops!

Hi ChaCha!

I think the site looks great, it's really easy to navigate and has lots of information. You're doing great work to keep Lacey's case out there! You rock!

There are many links to help one understand the series of events. I really do appreciate all of you who have taken an interest in Lacey's murder investigation.

I would appreciate any questions or comments especially on the timeline.

Thank you very much.

Dear Cha Cha,

I'm so sorry you lost Lacey in such a way. I just read this thread straight through, hoping it would have a different ending. I wish there was a way to force LE to account for something, anything!

My very best wishes for you and your family!
Bex

Do a search on this site for Thornridge and you will find Lacey case comes up as does an old cold case from 1969.

What is the connection ..you say? I didn't notice any until I did that search. I don't know if it means anything or not. But it jogged my memory of murders in the area I had totally forgotten. Many were drug related. I am not saying Lacey's is though she did complain of drugs being a problem with one of her boyfriends.

Lacey's Boss' girlfriend graduated from Thornridge and a girl friend of my brother's graduated from there also. That girlfriend was found in the lil' Calumet after going missing for more than 4 months. She comes up in the search, under the Christine DeWitte cold case.

There were several I-57 murders. Tom Hawtree and his family were one in a series. Look up I-57 murders and there are several entries.

In the early 70's there was a female CMHS student murdered. Supposedly taking pictures for yearbook, took pictures of a drug deal in the parking lot. Her name was Brigette Regli. Phillip Kline received 50 to 100 years for her murder, he sells mattresses in Port Charlotte, Venice • Florida now, co-defendants Arthur Garza and Glenn Schultz received 25 to life and both have since been paroled from prison.

Just wondering if any of this jogs any memories and if so would you care to share with me. You can message me privately. I am trying to find out anything that might help find Lacey's killer.

I also want to share that the Findme2.com is now helping on Lacey's case. You can visit her site or their site to see what they do. They do cases all around the country. I have had nothing but the best experience with them. I want to share that with all of you who too maybe searching ... for a missing person or a murderer of your loved one. They do both.
