A family member tells us the girl who died was six months pregnant. Her body was found in a dumpster. 17-year-old Breana Rouhselang was reported missing by her family around midnight Saturday. Police were called out on the case around 4:30 a.m. Sunday when they found evidence of a violent crime. They found the teen's body in a dumpster behind Rulli's restaurant, near the intersection of Battell and Division streets.

Police began investigating and found their suspect, a football player at Mishawaka High School: 16-year-old Aaron Trejo.

Breana's family said she was a manager on the football team. She also used to be a cheerleader at the school.

So sad for poor Breana. How could this guy and so many others like him think murder is a solution?

Slain Pregnant Cheerleader, 17, Allegedly Put in Dumpster by Football Player Who Fathered Child

A pregnant Indiana high school cheerleader was found slain in a dumpster — and a football player at her school allegedly confessed he was the unborn child’s father, saying he killed her because it was too late for an abortion.

Breana Rouhselang, 17, who was six months pregnant, was found dead Sunday morning. She was last seen alive at her Mishawaka home the night before, but she left the house at 11 p.m. that night to speak with the baby’s father and never returned, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by PEOPLE.

Abortion/adoption wasn't an option? or? I notice this seems to be the most dangerous time for a woman is when pregnant or leaving a violent relationship.

You're so right -- we here have seen it, and seen it, and seen it. Pregnant wives, girlfriends, fiancees -- all of it. Often times, the pregnancy is the last straw in a marriage -- hubby wants out of the relationship, thinks about alimony and/or child support and can't handle it, has already been through the "cheaper to keeper" discussion, so there you are.

For a teenager, not even out of H.S. yet, what do ya do? You don't even like her that much (perhaps in this case you do, I've got no idea), and you surely aren't ready for marriage. You've already got plans for your future, so this is the easy way out, right? Hide her well enuff, and you're free to play another game and get another girlfriend. This may not be the case here, but we've surely seen it more than twice. What a mess, and what a sad, sad, and un-do-able thing. She, like you, was/were just getting started. Her plans were already starting to change, but any plans she and her family might have had are gone, gone, gone. SMH.

Please pardon the rant. :mad::(

I wonder how long he knew she was pregnant for? He mentioned in one of the articles above that they haven’t talked for a few months.

Trejo told authorities he was aware of Breana's pregnancy and that he was alleged to be the father, the affidavit said, but he said neither wanted to have the baby. He said the two fought about the child before he stabbed Breana in the heart with a knife on Saturday, according to the affidavit. He then put a black plastic bag over her, put her body in a dumpster, and threw her phone and the knife in a river, court papers said.

"I took action ... I took her life," he said, when asked by authorities what he did when he learned she had waited too long to get an abortion by the time she told him of the pregnancy, according to the affidavit.

Trejo told authorities "he had been planning and thinking about killing Breana and the baby for about a week and had not told anybody," according to the affidavit.

This is so very tragic and beyond heartbreaking :(

AT is 16 years old.

In 2005, the Supreme Court banned the death penalty for minors (Roper v Simmons).

In 2012, the Supreme Court banned life without parole sentences for minors (Miller v Alabama). There is a possible exception for "aggravated murder".

Indiana only has one level of murder with penalties of death, LWOP, or 45-to-65 years with the court only able to suspend the portion beyond 45 years (minimum).

This link may not have been updated since the 2012 LWOP ruling re: defendants who are 16 and 17 years old, but provides the Indiana overview:

Indiana Murder Laws - FindLaw

So it looks like he will be sentenced to at least the 45 years. But he is only 16 himself. Is this fair?

Is it fair to her?

This is local to me. Not to start an abortion debate, but there are no abortion clinics in town. The only one was closed a couple years ago and I think the closest is about90 mins away.
