A man already in prison for murder on Thursday confessed to stabbing a Goldsboro teenager to death 18 years ago, police said Friday.

Thomas Steele Dail, 50, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Jared Graybeal.

A farmer found the partially clothed body of the 17-year-old Eastern Wayne High School student in a field on Louie Pollock Road, off U.S. Highway 70, in LaGrange on April 4, 1996. He had been stabbed several times in the abdomen and back.

From March 2015:

http://goldsborodailynews.com/blog/...ter-the-jared-graybeal-case-comes-to-a-close/

On Monday, March 16th, Jared Graybeal’s murderer, Thomas Steele Dail, plead guilty to First Degree Murder and received Life in Prison without the possibility of parole.

Dail was already in prison, serving a life sentence for the murder of Charles Kornegay, a NC DMV examiner, that had occurred in Duplin County on November 11, 1995...

When asked if the death penalty was an option in this case, Jared’s brother, David Graybeal said, “They took the death penalty out for his confession and plea.” He also said “the entire confession was not read in court” and very few details were provided to answer why he committed the heinous crime.
