Thanks for this info.

If it was the prosecutors who canceled why does it now say the next PTC, Sept 1st, is the final session KAK gets before trial? Was it KAK lawyers who did all those cancellations?

@sunshineray
KAK's atty requested 3 continuances and they were granted, then on 04/06 he filed a motion to skip the pretrial conference and to set a date for the final pretrial conf. and jury trial. That's why the 04/14 conf. was cancelled.

01/28/2021 = Order Granting Motion for Continuance
03/15/2021 = Order Granting Motion for Continuance
02/22/2022 = Order Granting Motion for Continuance

04/06/2022 = Motion Filed
Motion to Lift Pretrial Conference and Confirm Final Pretrial Conference and Jury Trial
04/14/2022 = CANCELED Pretrial Conference

09/01/2022 = Final PreTrial Conference
09/26/2022 = Jury Trial

Might cause him to squeal for some plea bargaining.

KAK has 30 counts against him

Possible punishment per charge/pc:

10 yrs for child solicitation; pc
15 to 30 yrs for child exploitation; pc
10 yrs for child *advertiser censored* possession; pc

That's a possible 300+- year sentence. Yep. Looks like he dies in prison.
.

I'm not sure what to make of it. I can't even guess as to what/how many witnesses they'll bring in.
Here's an interesting link regarding federal laws as they apply to CSAM. I think the combination of the crime being internet based, his use in both IN and NV, and KAK's 2/17/17 "aggravated" charges could be grounds for federal charges. But, his current charges and case is being handled on state level, isn't it? Would there be a federal case without our knowledge? I'm sorry if I sound ignorant, but I'm completely unfamiliar with how the courts work.

ETA: it won't link because of censorship, but maybe you can find it from what shows in the link?

I’m hoping there’s a plea deal and some major announcements before these new dates.
Me too. The majority of his CSAM charges date from 2/17/17 through 2/25/17, all with aggravating factors. None of his earlier charges include that. It seriously makes me question if what he had on his devices or Dropbox included downloaded images of L and A from 2/13/17. Maybe either the source images originated from another person's device, or were deleted and irretrievable from his wiped phone, which is why no 2/13/17 charges? Idk. But IF that's the case, and he was also in contact with L before they died, that would link him to before and after the crime, but not necessity the crime scene itself, if that makes sense. Imo, it definitely would connect him, though, and hopefully he'd have knowledge of the killer.

I am not familiar with how federal cases work in relation to state cases. In your link, it states:
"It is important to note that an offender can be prosecuted under state child *advertiser censored* laws in addition to, or instead of, federal law."

What if there is a case in federal court that he's cooperating on? We probably wouldn't know if there is one.
Maybe one of our knowledgeable members can tell us what this is:

@FrostedGlass, how many continuances is this now? Is this common in criminal trials?
I haven't counted them but I can later today.

It seems like continuances are unlimited to some degree, as long as they are attributed to the accused. Covid has been a problem, attys have problems getting with their inmates, new attys, sometimes their schedules are too crowded,...

These are what's on record, unless I missed one. Theses were all motions from the defense and were all granted. They all look pretty normal compared to other cases. except for the joint discovery. If I've seen that in other cases, it went un-noticed. Maybe it's of no concern.

Indiana State Police took custody of Kegan Kline then returned him to the Miami County Jail at some point over the last several days, according to a judge's order filed Friday.
...
Prosecutors on Friday asked a judge to seal the order containing details about Kline's transfer of custody, arguing "release of this information would severely hinder the efforts of law enforcement officers in the course of an investigation."
