Priyanka Chopra urges fans to help India where COVID-19 death toll tops 200,000 | Daily Mail Online
April 29, 2021

"India's coronavirus disaster deepened on Thursday with the nation reporting 3,645 deaths in 24 hours and total deaths surpassing 200,000.

Confirmed new cases in India hit a new global record of more than 379,000.

However, the official numbers are widely believed to be far below the reality.

In many Indian cities, hospitals are running out of beds as relatives of the sick crowd jostle for medicines and oxygen cylinders.

Family members have taken to social media to beg for oxygen cylinders for their loved ones.

More than 40 countries have committed to sending India vital medical aid, particularly oxygen amid a severe shortage, India's Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said.

The supplies include almost 550 oxygen-generating plants, more than 4,000 oxygen concentrators, 10,000 oxygen cylinders as well as 17 cryogenic tankers.

Hundreds of thousands of doses of Covid-19 treatment drugs as well as raw materials to produce vaccines were also being sent."

US State Department urges Americans in India to leave NOW as COVID-19 crisis worsens
April 29, 2021

"The US is urging Americans in India to leave as soon as possible as the country's deepening COVID-19 crisis worsens at high speed and some US citizens say they are being turned away from hospitals due to a lack of space.

The State Department has issued a Level 4 travel advisory, which is the highest alert of its kind, and urges US citizens to not travel to India or leave the country if they can.

The alert is urging Americans who want to leave to take advantage of commercial flights that are running.

There are currently 14 direct daily flights between India and the US and several other options that have transfers in Paris and Frankfurt.

It is not clear if the US plans to cancel flights from India like the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Dubai already have."

China deletes Communist Party post mocking India's Covid-19 crisis | Daily Mail Online

"China has deleted a Communist Party social media post mocking India's unfolding Covid-19 crisis, it is understood.

The since-removed post showed an image of a recent rocket launch in China next to what looked to be workers at a mass cremation in India, alongside the words: 'China lighting a fire versus India lighting a fire.'

The inflammatory post by China's Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission sparked online criticism."

Paramedic suffers fatal heart attack while delivering Covid patient | Daily Mail Online

"Shocking footage has caught the moment an Indian paramedic collapsed from a fatal heart attack while ferrying a Covid-19 patient to hospital as health workers around the country are being pushed to their limits amid a crippling second wave of infections and deaths.

CCTV video shows hospital employee Mahavir Sinj Jhala falling to the ground in front of CJ Hospital in Surendranagar in Gujarat state on Friday.

Meanwhile, more footage taken inside a hospital in Uttar Pradesh state on Saturday showed a woman giving mouth-to-mouth to her Covid-positive mother in a vain attempt to save her life amid nationwide oxygen shortages.

The footage showed two daughters standing over a stretcher where their mother was laying motionless, before one of them began mouth-to-mouth with no doctor around to help out.

Doctors said the patient was brought to the hospital 'on her death bed' and that by the time medics were able to attend to her, she had already died."

India Covid: Top advisor warns of third wave even before second has peaked | Daily Mail Online

"Chilling footage has emerged of Covid patients left to die on a hospital ward in India from lack of oxygen as victims' relatives say they were 'abandoned' by doctors.

The tragic scene unfolded at Kriti Hospital, a private clinic near New Delhi, on Friday last week around 9pm after families of the Covid patients were told that oxygen supplies were running low.

Relatives - who had been paying up to £1,000 per day for a bed - said they rushed to the hospital but found it deserted and the ICU ward locked, only to find their relatives had died when the doors were finally opened.

Police then had to be called to 'deescalate' the situation when families found medical staff hiding in the canteen, and threatened to attack them.

As video of the tragedy went viral on Wednesday this week, officers said the facility was not authorised to treat Covid patients and an investigation is underway."

India Covid: Indian MP causes outrage by claiming that drinking cow URINE protects her from Covid | Daily Mail Online

"An Indian MP has caused outrage after she claimed that she is protected from coronavirus because she drinks cow urine every day.

Pragya Thakur, a controversial MP from Narendra Modi's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), also claimed that the urine can cure lung infections caused by the virus.

Her bizarre comments come just days after Indian doctors urged people not to cover themselves in cow dung and urine as a treatment for Covid, saying it risks spreading the disease faster.

She made the claims at a party gathering on Monday at a time when India is grappling with a second wave and a daily death toll of about 4,000.

MP Thakur sparked outrage over her comments, with political figures arguing that her 'unscientific' claims will 'ultimately discourage people from vaccination and invite more devastation'."

What is India's REAL Covid death toll? Experts say as many as 1.6 MILLION people could have died as the country's health service buckled

"The true coronavirus death toll in India could be as many as 1.6 million compared to the official 310,000 fatalities reported, experts fear.

Last week the virus-ravaged Asian nation recorded 4,529 deaths in one day, the biggest 24-hour toll in any country during the pandemic.

But an analysis by the New York Times suggests the number could be at least double the official figure, at 600,000 - sparking concerns of huge undercounting.

The paper's 'more likely' scenario estimates the number of deaths to be 1.6 million, while the worst-case could be as high as 4.2 million.

By comparison, Britain recorded just nine deaths today and more than 127,000 fatalities in total. The US has recorded about 590,000, also suspected to be an undercount, in a population of about 330 million."
