KY - Fugitive attorney Eric Conn sought in Social Security fraud, June 2017 *Arrest*

I'm thinkin' the dirty dog is in Camaroon or the Maldives. He's kicked back on a beach with a cool beverage while some of the people who've been hurt by his fall out have committed suicide. He had this planned from the git go. Who let's someone like this go home with an ankle monitor?! There's people sitting in jail for flight risks who don't even have a flippin' car to flee in, nor the money to do so, and they let this guy go...

ETA: Read one comment that it is believed he has a mansion in Belize. Belize is a non-extradition friendly country.

With money like that at his disposal, he could have easily arranged a getaway including being driven to a waiting chartered jet that took him out of the US. This creep is long gone IMO.

So was this guy known around town as someone who would fake a disability for people who wanted to scam our government?

Absolutely, and I'd not be surprised if money changed hands to get him that ankle monitor and for someone to not pay attention to the fact it wasn't sending signal. People freak out if they see ground chuck, or pop, in the grocery buggy, if a mom pays with food stamps, yet this guy just hustled hundreds of MILLIONS, and ruined people's lives, people actually committed suicide, but I've seen folks laughing how he got away with it! Burns me up. I get heated every time I see this shyster's face. :furious:

I have no clue sis. He was known as Mr. Social Security.

Person claiming to be Eric C. Conn states terms of surrender via emails.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Lexington Herald-Leader reports it and the lawyer of Eric C. Conn have received emails from someone claiming to be Conn which lay out terms of his surrender.

In an article, the Herald- Leader reports the email sender claiming to be Conn ran from home detention because they thought it was unfair that two Social Security judges convicted in relation to the case would get less prison time than Conn.

A person claiming to be fugitive lawyer Eric C. Conn laid out the terms of his surrender in emails sent to his attorney and the Herald-Leader in recent days, then contacted the newspaper early Sunday to provide extra details aimed at confirming his identity.

Conn, who pleaded guilty in March in one of the largest disability-fraud cases in the nation’s history, absconded from home detention on June 2.

Here is a website listing the countries that do not have an extradition treaty with the United States.

This website has a caveat that escaping to a non-extradition-treaty country does not mean you are home free. It simply puts you at the mercy of your new hosts.

Looking at the nations that does not have an extradition treaty with the United States, most of them are in areas of Africa, the Middle East, and Asia that have economic and political instability.

While I am surprised to see that the Vatican is listed among the nations that doesn’t have an extradition treaty with the United States, I have a sneaking suspicion that he won’t likely be welcomed with open arms at the Vatican.

This just infuriates me even more. Snippets from article:
The emails set out conditions under which the sender would surrender to the FBI.

They were that the terms of his surrender be made available for public review and discussion; that the FBI publicly state Conn fled because he found it unfair that others in the case will receive a combined sentence less than his; that the FBI publicly acknowledge Conn has no history of violence and that a caution they issued to members of the public about approaching him was not based on a specific concern; and finally, that the FBI not charge him with additional crimes related to him fleeing.

[...]

The person claiming to be Conn said that while he was on house arrest for 15 months, the woman he loved left him, saying she could not be with someone who could not leave the house.

“She made it abundantly clear that she wanted to have a ‘normal life,’” the man wrote. “I understood her feelings.”

Classic narcissist. He wants things done on his own terms and portrays himself as a victim while he has no empathy for the people whose lives he ruined. He's concerned about his image more than anything. :cooler:

He doesn't think he should be punished more than the judges he bribed (do I understand that correctly?). Isn't that for a judge/jury to decide?! :waitasec:

Eric, one doesn't need to be violent to be a harm to others. But, narcissists will rationalize any behavior that advances their own cause.

:steamed:

So, what will happen to the many disability cases he filed and won?

Will the Social Security Administration try to go back through the latest files from his office, reopen and reexamine them? Whee, talk about spending money, this will cost a fortune!

But, looking at it from a logical point, all the benefits paid out erroneously each month and through the years is an astronomical burden on the system. Anything with Conn's name and/or the fake doctor's name needs to have an updated medical examination with new papers filled out. Give the people a time limit to have it done or they will automatically be dropped from the SS disability list. The majority on disability will be on Medicaid, so they won't be paying for the exam anyway. JMO.

Here is a news clip from the EKB cable news station from Pikeville, KY reporting that not only is the FBI still searching for Eric Conn and the reward amount is unchanged.

FBI: Conn's getaway truck found near border, but no reason to believe he's in Mexico

A federal judge sentenced Eric C. Conn to prison Friday.

Conn was sentenced to 12 years in prison, ordered to pay almost $170,000,000 in restitution, a $50,000 fine and a forfeiture judgment of $5,750,404.

FBI officials revealed today that Conn left Kentucky in early June with the help of a co-conspirator and a truck registered to a dummy company in Montana. The truck was found in New Mexico near the border of Mexico.

The FBI revealed surveillance photos from early June of Conn in New Mexico at a Walmart store and also at a gas station. The FBI also said that they didn't believe Conn had crossed the border into Mexico.

Eric Conn Fled to New Mexico Using An Accomplice’s Truck

The Lexington Herald Leader newspaper is reporting that surveillance images from a Pilot convenience store in Santa Rosa, New Mexico and a Walmart store in Deming, New Mexico is showing that Eric Conn had changed his appearance to a Kojak style hair cut.

Conn was seen in the surveillance photos buying water and a snack at the convenience store and pushing a bicycle at the Walmart store.

Even though Conn was absent last Friday during his sentencing in U.S. Federal Court, the U.S. District Judge said that as long as Conn was on the run, Conn would be looking over his shoulders as FBI agents and bounty hunters go after him.

The newspaper article also mentioned that if Conn is ever caught, he could receive a life sentence in prison on the remaining charges in the original indictment and from charges related to his escape.
