October 2015:

Daniel Keene, 29, charged with complicity in the June 2010 kidnapping and murder for hire killings of Charles “Chew” Walker and Sonsaray “Sonsi” Warford, as well as burglary, was found competent Friday to stand trial.

After a closed hearing in Madison Circuit Court, during which a competency evaluation of Keene was reviewed, Judge Jean Chenault Logue ordered Keene to go on trial Dec. 14 as previously scheduled.

Lebruce Ellington, 36, who is facing the same charges as Keene, is scheduled for a separate trial Feb. 22.

On Wednesday morning, the proceeding was rescheduled for April 18.

During a status hearing in Madison Circuit Court, Commonwealths Attorney David Smith told Judge Jean C. Logue that only two week earlier he was made aware of “about a dozen audio CDs” of interviews by investigators...

Keene confessed in March 2012 that a convicted cocaine trafficker who believed Walker cheated him out of money hired him and Denholm to kill Walker. He then led police to where the couple’s bodies were buried.

Keene’s 40-year sentence was recommended by prosecutors as part of a plea deal in which he pleaded guilty to murder, kidnapping, burglary, evidence tampering and abuse of a corpse. Keene will be eligible for parole after 20 years.

Lebruce Ellington pleaded guilty to all six charges including complicity to commit murder in relation to the brutal 2010 double murder of Sonsaray Warford and her boyfriend Charles Walker...

Ellington faces up to a 210 year prison sentence.

He is scheduled to be back in court in April.
