State Representative Austin Badon has organized a step-by-step search Friday (Dec. 1) for Jean Stokes, 76, who “seemingly vanished” seven weeks ago. He’s asking volunteers to join him at the intersection of Chef Highway and Bullard Avenue at 9 am.

Ms. Stokes voice was last heard by her family on the phone Wednesday morning, October 11th at about 10:30. They haven’t heard it since . When her daughter, Darlene, arrived at Ms. Jean’s house she noticed her car was missing. Quickly after entering the home she sensed something wasn’t right and called the police. In a tragic coincidence, NOPD officer Marcus McNeil gave his life in the line of duty on October 13th. An already thinly stretched police department was stretched even thinner. Eventually Ms. Jean’s family was told by NOPD there were indications of foul play in the home.

From the day she went missing, Ms. Jean’s family and friends have relentlessly searched for her and pleaded for anyone who knows anything to come forward. Finally, two weeks after she disappeared, it appeared there had been a break in the case. Ms. Jean’s car was discovered by maintenance workers in a New Orleans East ditch. I can’t begin to imagine the grief and pain a family is feeling to hope that, if their mother is not alive, her body would be in the abandoned vehicle so they could at least begin the process of closure. But the car was empty. No clues, no Ms. Jean, no closure.

Body of former school board employee found in New Orleans East

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The body of a woman who has been missing since October 2017 was found by New Orleans police in New Orleans East, according to investigators.

Her car was discovered near a levee shortly after she disappeared. New Orleans police said her death has now been ruled a homicide.

Louisiana State Police Crime Laboratory conducted DNA analysis comparison of Stokes DNA profile, to that of remains discovered in the Seventh District.

The analysis confirmed a match of Ms. Jean Stokes DNA profile to the DNA profile of the discovered remains.

A 76-year-old woman reported missing in October 2017 was shot multiple times in the head, according to the Orleans Parish Coroner's office, which confirmed Tuesday (July 31) that Jean Stokes' skull was found by kayakers in the Irish Bayou in October 2017.

Shot multiple times in the head? Ggrrrr. This is just a random thought. Not info from anywhere. That sounds personal. I would look at family members or family members who might have enemies and they took it out on her.

I found this video clip regarding the murder of Jean Stokes. While this person has not been named as a POI, nor has he been arrested, he is being investigated as he was the last person to have seen Mrs. Stokes. He was also staying at her house.
