Bruce McArthur: What we know and don't know (Updated: Feb. 1, 2018)
- Bruce McArthur, a 66-year-old landscaper, was charged with murder on Jan. 18 in the deaths of Selim Esen and Andrew Kinsman, who went missing from Toronto's Gay Village in 2017 under mysterious circumstances. -- McArthur was charged with three more counts of murder on Jan. 29 in relation to the deaths of Majeed Kayhan, Soroush Mahmudi and Dean Lisowick. -- Police have also confirmed that human remains were found in planters at a Leaside home where McArthur worked as a landscaper. -- Investigators have confirmed McArthur had a sexual relationship with Kinsman. Its not known what kind of relationship McArthur had with other alleged victims. -- McArthur lived in the Thorncliffe Park area and was known in the Church and Wellesley area. -- Police have searched multiple properties connected to McArthur in Toronto and one in Madoc. They have now expanded their search into the Peel and Durham regions. -- Police "believe there are more victims." -- Project Prism the police investigation into the Kinsman and Esen disappearances was launched in July 2017. -- Project Houston is the police investigation launched in 2012 into the disappearance of three men who frequented the Gay Village around that time: Skandaraj Navaratnam, 40, Abdulbasir Faizi, 42, and Kayhan, 58. According to Xtra, McArthur once dated Navaratnam. -- McArthur was convicted of assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm for attacking a man with a pipe in 2001. As a result, McArthur was barred from an area of downtown that included the Gay Village and his conditional sentence prohibited him from spending time with male prostitutes. -- Its not known what role his previous conviction may have played in helping investigators narrowing in on McArthur.
