7 people expected to face charges in Warren De La Salle football hazing investigation, officials say

Warren police conducted investigation into alleged hazing within football program

WARREN, Mich.
– Seven people are expected to face charges in connection with the Warren De La Salle football hazing investigation, according to authorities.

Warren police conducted an investigation into the De La Salle football program after the team forfeited its Michigan high school playoff game due to allegations of hazing. When officials completed their investigation, they recommended charges against three students -- an 18-year-old and two 16-year-olds.

Investigators said the incident happened Oct. 19 at a team dinner. Many of the younger players knew the hazing was coming, so they ran from their teammates, officials said...

7 students face charges in Warren De La Salle hazing scandal

Warren — Tips and interviews from a follow-up investigation into allegations of hazing at Warren De La Salle Collegiate High School have led to criminal warrants being authorized against seven students, Warren Police Chief William Dwyer confirmed Thursday.

Dwyer said the charges result from witnesses, including two alleged victims, coming forward in recent weeks.

“These are people that came forward after the St. Clair County Prosecutor determined not to write warrants off the original investigation,” said Dwyer. “For whatever reason, they chose not to discuss this with investigators in the beginning but are cooperating now and will testify.” ...

Chilling.

Glad I don't know the whole story!

Team dinner, and some players ran???

Sounds like adults knew....

It's really sad that something like this happened at what used to be a prestigious Catholic boys' high school. I attended parochial school in northeast Detroit, and several boys from my class went to various boys' schools after 8th grade. This was common practice for boys in the '50s and '60s; not so much for girls. Three of my elementary school classmates went to UD Jesuit (all three became physicians), a handful went to Detroit Cathedral or Catholic Central, and a couple went to De La Salle. None of the girls from my class left to attend Catholic girls' schools, but a few left to go to public school. I attended the parochial school from first through 12th grade.

De La Salle was originally on the east side of Detroit and opened in the 1920s. I'm sure that some of the current student body is comprised of legacies whose fathers, grandfathers, maybe even great-grandfathers attended the school. What a shame to have a once-prestigious school tarnished by this hazing incident :(

Another situation where "like" doesn't really apply.
