Records: Doctor didn’t disclose USA Gymnastics probe

Associated Press Published 2:41 p.m. ET March 18, 2017 | Updated 5:46 p.m. ET March 18, 2017

East Lansing — A Michigan State University doctor resigned after learning the school was considering her termination because she didn’t disclose in 2015 that USA Gymnastics was investigating a fellow physician who has since been charged with molesting young gymnasts, according to records released to the Lansing State Journal.

The documents obtained from Dr. Brooke Lemmen’s personnel file through the Freedom of Information Act reveal she also removed patient records at Dr. Larry Nassar’s request, the newspaper reported.
Lemmen’s lawyer, Aaron Kemp, on Saturday disputed the claims made in the university documents...

Gymnastics Scandal: Dr. Larry Nassar’s Fellow Doctor Rebuked by MSU

by Tracy Connor

Michigan State University threatened to fire a physician who agreed to remove confidential medical files as a favor to disgraced gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar — but her lawyer said the school is making her a scapegoat in its sexual abuse scandal.

"She's still coming to terms with this, but she's horrified," said attorney Aaron Kemp, who represents Dr. Brooke Lemmen, who considered Nassar a mentor and good friend until he was charged with molesting patients under the guise of pelvic treatments...

The investigation by Michigan State led to restrictions on Dr. Larry Nassar, but he was fired in 2016 for violating them.

In Sex-Abuse Case Against Dr. Larry Nassar, Judge Issues Gag Order for Victims

by Tracy Connor

A Michigan judge hearing a case against a disgraced gymnastics doctor issued a gag order on Tuesday, limiting what accusers and their lawyers can say about the sexual-abuse scandal.

Attorneys for Dr. Larry Nassar, who is accused of molesting more than 80 girls and women, complained that public statements had created a "mob mentality" that could doom a fair trial...

Judge signs order restricting comments in Nassar case

Jonathan Oosting, Detroit News Lansing Bureau 1:30 p.m. ET March 29, 2017

Lansing — Larry Nassar should face trial in a courtroom not on Facebook, an Ingham County judge said Wednesday as she signed an order restricting public comments by witnesses and their attorneys in a criminal case against the former USA Gymnastics and Michigan State University sports doctor.

Nassar, facing multiple sexual assault charges at the state and federal level, appeared in Ingham County Circuit Court as his attorneys urged Judge Rosemarie Aquilina to crack down on comments they said could hurt Nassar’s ability to receive a fair trial before an impartial jury.

Among other things, the order requires witnesses and their attorneys to refer to Nassar by his name, which defense attorney Shannon Smith said will preclude them “from referring to him as a monster, a serial pedophile, predator — all of the other terms that some of these lawyers are using.” ...

http://www.foxnews.com/sports/2017/...ssars-medical-license-reportedly-revoked.html

Larry Nassar's medical license has been revoked for three years and he must pay $100,000 before reapplying, a spokesman for the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs said.
<snip> http://www.foxnews.com/sports/2017/...ssars-medical-license-reportedly-revoked.html

Larry Nassar told Michigan State University officials that he was planning to start seeing patients again in July 2014 even though he had not yet been cleared of sexual assault claims, documents show.

Nassar, 53, of Holt, who faces 28 criminal charges split between state and federal courts, told several people at MSU, including the dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Title IX investigator assigned to his case, that he was planning to return to clinical duties on July 1, more than two months into the internal investigation.
<snip> http://www.freep.com/story/news/loc...return-clinic-before-inquiry-ended/100063084/

I hope Nassar won't be able to reapply for a medical license after 3 years because I hope he'll be behind bars, where he should be spending the remainder of his life. He doesn't deserve to practice medicine (or, in his case, pretend to practice medicine).

I don't think this has been posted.

Steve Penny resigned as president of USA Gymnastics on Thursday following intensified pressure on the organization for its handling of sex abuse cases.

The resignation came a week after the United States Olympic Committee's board recommended to USA Gymnastics chairman Paul Parilla that Penny should step down. Penny offered his resignation during a previously scheduled board meeting on Thursday.

[...]

The gregarious Penny -- whose booming voice and penchant for wearing eye-catching shoes during big events made him stand out in a sea of gymnasts -- has denied any wrongdoing and the USA Gymnastics board of directors had remained supportive throughout the firestorm.

That didn't stop the USOC from sending recommendations to USA Gymnastics Thursday. While the USOC does not have official authority to remove heads of national governing bodies, it can apply pressure by threatening to without funding. The USOC gives USA Gymnastics a cash grant of nearly $2 million annually.

Agree!
He has no business " practicing " medicine.

Judge orders courtroom closed during testimony in Nassar case
An Eaton County courtroom will be closed to the public in June when two women and a teenage girl are expected to testify that Larry Nassar sexually assaulted them during medical appointments, a judge ruled today.

Eaton County District Court Judge Julie Reincke said she will allow one support person for each of the witnesses to be present in the courtroom. She added that one print media reporter will be allowed in the courtroom for the testimony, but will be barred from reporting the alleged victims' names or other identifying information.

I am surprised this has not gotten as much media attention compared to Penn State or Roman Catholic Church.

This is just as serious.

Testimony: Nassar’s massage treatment ‘hurt a lot’

Kim Kozlowski , The Detroit News Published 12:05 a.m. ET May 26, 2017 | Updated 15 hours ago

Mason — A 16-year-old girl testified Friday that a former Michigan State University sports doctor accused of sexually abusing patients had a reputation among gymnasts for being “touchy” and hurt her when he digitally penetrated her during treatment of her heel.

An 18-year-old woman testified that when she sought treatment for back pain from Larry Nassar — a renowned osteopathic physician at MSU and lead physician for USA Gymnastics — she told him that she felt better when he was inserting his fingers inside her “because I wanted it to stop.”

And a 17-year-old girl testified that after Nassar penetrated her vagina and anus with his fingers for back pain when she was 11 years old, human touch has not been the same.

“I am very uncomfortable being touched in any shape or form,” said the girl...
