MI - Former US Gymnastics Doctor Larry Nassar Charged With CSA *Guilty*

Michigan State president Lou Anna Simon resigns over Nassar scandal
by Tracy Connor

Michigan State University President Lou Anna Simon resigned Wednesday amid ever-mounting criticism of the school's handling of the Larry Nassar sex-abuse scandal.

Just days earlier, the Board of Trustees had backed Simon. But after she came under scorching fire from Nassar's accusers at a weeklong sentencing hearing, the tide turned...

Simon had no choice and will not be the only enabler who will be forced to resign or be terminated in the wake of this horrific sexual abuse scandal.

I thought I'd seen the worst-of-the-worst when I watched the trials of Casey Anthony, Jodi Arias, Jerry Sandusky, among others, but I have to say that Larry Nassar surpasses even these despicable humans with the evil that he perpetrated on unsuspecting children. I doubt we'll ever truly know just how many lives this man preyed upon.

Agreed. Larry Nassar is no different from Jerry Sandusky. I see shades of Sandusky.

I wonder if Larry Nassar will face more criminal charges outside of Michigan or even federal charges.

I rarely post but I always read. I remember that Indy Star investigation and those journalists allowed someone to find her voice and to speak up which then allowed all these survivors to stand together.

I've been a gymnastics fan forever. It's definitely one of my favorite sports to watch. Back in VCR days, I'd record the meets and re-watch the events over and over.

I read what the Detroit Press tweeted with all the victims names. It's just heartbreaking to see what these girls had to put up with. I know so many of those names through watching elite gymnastics.

Mckayla Maroney is the one that gets to me. I don't think the depth of what occurred to her hit her until after she retired from a sport she loved and found herself with a lot of pain. I followed her in instagram and I saw things that honestly displayed someone suffering from trauma. But I had no clue what was going on. My therapist eye saw it before I realized it.

I took a screenshot of those names so that I will never forget. From Kyle Stephens to Rachael Denhollander.

This should of gotten a lot of media attention like Penn State with Jerry Sandusky.

He could. I heard earlier that some abuses may have happened as far away as UK, while he was the Olympics physician. He was the doctor at the London Olympic games. But whether they would press charges .... ?

Larry Nassar faces additional sentencing in Eaton County criminal sexual conduct case
Nassar sentenced to 40-175 years in prison for Ingham County crimes

EATON COUNTY, Mich. - Former sports doctor Larry Nassar was sentenced to 40 to 175 years in prison Wednesday for sexually abusing young athletes in Ingham County, but his time in court hasn't ended.

Nassar faces additional sentencing in Eaton County, Michigan, after he pleaded guilty to three more criminal sexual conduct charges.

Nassar faced 13 counts of criminal sexual conduct in Eaton County, but accepted a plea agreement that reduced six charges and dropped four.

He is expected to be sentenced Jan. 31 in Eaton County. He faces a minimum of 25 years in prison...

Wojo: Simon is out, and MSU's woes just starting

It ended where it began, sadly, horrifically, nearly two decades too late. It ended with the first publicly identified victim eviscerating pedophile Larry Nassar in an Ingham County courtroom, delivering with stinging poignancy the last of 156 victim statements.

From a criminal-prosecution standpoint, it ended when Nassar was sentenced to 175 years in prison for sexually assaulting girls and women. But in many ways, it’s just starting for Michigan State, where the awful crimes went unchecked for 20 years.

The first major repercussion came later Wednesday, when school president Lou Anna Simon resigned under immense pressure. There was no other option, and you can expect the ugly toll to mount...

READ: Judge Aquilina's statement to Larry Nassar
Assaults were 'calculated ... devious, despicable

(CNN) - As she sentenced Larry Nassar up to 175 years in prison for sexual assault, Circuit Court Judge Rosemarie Aquilina ripped into the former USA Gymnastics doctor.

"I just signed your death warrant," Aquilina said Wednesday during an impassioned half-hour announcement of her decision.

During her powerful statement, Aquilina stopped to directly address Nassar about his guilt after reading from a letter he had written in court defending himself.

The judge strongly disagreed, saying: "It was not treatment. It was not treatment what you did. It was not medical."

Here are Aquilina's full remarks:

Gymnast Aly Raisman discusses her stare-down with Larry Nassar
by Tracy Connor

Gold-medal gymnast Aly Raisman prepared for her victim impact statement at Larry Nassar's sentencing the same way she approached the Olympics.

"In that moment, I almost felt like I was going to compete," Raisman told Hoda Kotb on "Today" in an exclusive interview on Thursday.

"Because at the Olympics, you block everything out and in that moment, I blocked out everything." ...

But there's one moment folks can't stop talking about.
Aquilina read aloud parts of a letter in which Nassar wrote that he'd been a good doctor and that he had been manipulated into saying he'd performed medically unnecessary treatments for his own gratification.
Then she tossed it aside with a flick of her wrist and a stony glare.
"Would you like to withdraw your plea?" she asked.

Aquilina, 59, is quickly emerging as a fierce advocate for Nassar's victims, lauded for the way she handled the trial and allowed more than 150 women and girls to give statements against Nassar.
She has been the subject of glowing features from the likes of the New York Times, the BBC and CNN.

Nassar victim describes 'eerie' environment at Karolyi Ranch
https://www.lansingstatejournal.com...s-eerie-environment-karolyi-ranch/1058354001/

A decorated gymnast recounted the “eerie” environment at a USA Gymnastics training site during the sentencing for former Michigan State University doctor Larry Nassar Tuesday.

The Karolyi Ranch in Huntsville, Texas has been used for many years as a training site for U.S. Olympic gymnasts, and has been mentioned by several gymnasts during Nassar’s sentencing as a location where they were assaulted.

Last week, USA Gymnastics announced the camp would no longer serve as the National Training Center.

So many red flags.

Karolyi Ranch under investigation after Nassar sex crimes conviction
http://abc13.com/karolyi-ranch-under-investigation-after-nassar-sex-crimes-/2984966/

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (KTRK) -- A ranch in Huntsville where Olympic hopefuls have gone for gymnastics training is under investigation.

The Walker County Sheriff's Office won't say what they are investigating at the Karolyi Ranch, but it may be linked to the conviction of former Michigan State University doctor Larry Nassar.

Michigan State, USA Gymnastics, Karolyi Ranch, etc. are complicit and evil.

This is like Penn State and Jerry Sandusky all over again.

Gymnastics scandal: 8 times Larry Nassar could have been stopped
by Tracy Connor and Sarah Fitzpatrick

At the sentencing hearing for Larry Nassar, 156 women vented at the once-respected doctor they say molested them. But there was just as much anger for the institutions where he worked, Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics, which are accused in lawsuits of ignoring two decades worth of opportunities to stop abuse.

"This could have stopped in 1997," one accuser said.

With the U.S. Olympic Committee launching an independent investigation and the Michigan Attorney General set to review the matter, more details about who knew what and when could come out in the future...

To my fellow posters who are following this case: DH and I are leaving for a cruise tomorrow. It might be difficult for me to keep up with breaking news, and I would appreciate your sharing as I will check in here daily. :tyou: I know about the Eaton County sentencing on January 31 but can't be sure I'll get live stream on the laptop somewhere in the Caribbean.

Nice! I love cruises, no need to worry about who wants to eat what and when. Have a great time! We just returned from South Beach, Miami and getting away from the brutal cold was a blessing.

I'll follow along with the Nassar case and keep you posted as best I can here.

US Olympic Committee Demands all USA Gymnastics Board Members Resign within 6 Days
[FONT=&quot]Four members of the USA Gymnastics board quit on Monday, but Blackmun said "reform must start with an entirely new board" and demanded all remaining members resign. An interim board must be in place by Feb. 28, he said, and will have 12 months to replace the interim directors. Those forced to resign cannot return as members of the new board.

The Olympic Committee says if board members don't resign by Wednesday, USAG will lose its status as a national governing body, reports CBS News' Jon LaPook. Four of the 21 board members have already stepped down. USAG said it "embraces the requirements."
