We dug deeper into another mysterious disappearance. What happened to Buddy Heflin? We found there is new evidence in this 45 year old case.
Some say Buddy Heflin was mixed up with the underworld, the Dixie mafia, and was caught up in a vicious circle of crime. His ex-wife, Alexis Heflin, drove to WLBT from Huntsville, Alabama.
"He moved here and he got involved with some people that were involved in criminal activities and I believe he tried to get out," said Alexis Heflin.
The book "Mississippi Whispers" reveals him as a cavalier charmer working at Kroger in Jackson in 1969.
I went to the sight of the old Baker Motel next to Medgar Evers Boulevard. It was reportedly a haven for criminal activity, and it was the last place Buddy Heflin was known to be living.
Valerie Leary also lives in Huntsville and wrote the book for her aunt.
"Enforcement agencies stated this motel was known to be connected to the underworld," said Valerie.
Searching for answers, his family says the last known sighting of 25 year old Buddy was New Year's day 1969 in Starkville. That was the last time anyone heard from Buddy.

"Before he knew it he was involved in something way over his head and the only way out was to continue doing what they told you or they killed you and I think they killed him," said Valerie.
Or did the frightened young man assume another identity and deliberately disappear? Was his body ever found?
The family does not believe he is alive.
