GUILTY MS - Latasha Norman, 20, Jackson, 13 Nov 2007

Just as a comparison look at that case of the white girl in Kansas who was abducted from a Target parking lot and her body was found in about the same time as this case.

That case got wall to wall coverage in the week or so she was missing while in this case practically nobody heard of it.

So, that's what they mean by Missing White Woman Syndrome.

I understand what you mean. I'm not sure if the KS case is a good one to use though. In that case they had camera footage of the perp and needed the public's help in identifying him.

Anyway, that's not the point. I have long wished for a channel that would basically do what we do here with the missing. Spotlight each case (old and new) for about 10 minutes per day, or longer if there's time! That way everyone would get equal time.

One more opinion: I think all missing men get even less media attention than missing non-caucasian women.

I'm glad that she was found but that shouldn't have been the outcome of this case. Also glad that the ex-boyfriend is locked up and will never be able to harm another woman. These cases are never ending. I don't know what the answer is but I am so sick of reading about husbands...ex-husbands...and ex-boyfriends and boyfriends who murder females because the woman had the nerve to leave them or the male doesn't want to pay child support. It just makes me sick. When this happens I think the guy should just be taken out and shot. Maybe that would catch someone's attention.

This beautiful young lady deserves so much more than she got in life, they met in high school and continued dating through 2 years of college..in a million years I am sure she never thought this would happen to her. I watch her family on the news almost every night, they did not know that he was abusing her..she never told them. Hindsight is 20/20 they say. If her legacy could be to teach young women and young men to scream it from the mountaintops that they are being hurt by the very ones that they trust and love...then some of this might make sense.

If someone (US,the media,LE) could just get the word out that domestic violence is not TABOO anymore, that it isn't HER fault HE does these mean things to her and her children...and it stands for DATING situations as well. No man or woman has the right to hurt you no matter what!!!!! I do not care what "excuse" the abuser gives you..
LOVE DOES NOT HURT!
He/She doesn't do it because:
He/She loves you
They had a bad day
You just said the wrong thing
You just set them off
Temporary insanity
They just don't feel good
They just want to be left alone
Or any other STUPID excuse HE/SHE wants to give!
Most likely it WILL happen again..sure HE/SHE will say they will never do it again, BUT you probably believed that the LAST time!
Right?
And I have one thing to say to my fellow PARENTS....Please teach your children to treat others as they would like to be treated. There are so many children being brought up so angry, and they know no other way to be. And it is then carried into their own relationships.
:eek:k I'm climbing off my soapbox now, I am sorry about this long post:

Amen, MsPooh. I wish this was taught in school because I don't think it's always taught at home. :(

From February 2014:

http://www.wapt.com/news/central-mississippi/jackson/stanley-cole-expected-to-plead-guilty/24556330

Stanley Cole pleaded guilty Wednesday to manslaughter in the 2007 slaying of his ex-girlfriend, Jackson State University student Latasha Norman...

He was sentenced to 40 years -- 20 years for manslaughter, 15 years for armed robbery and 5 years for aggravated stalking. The sentences will be served consecutively...

Cole has acknowledged killing the 20-year-old woman, but maintains it was an accident. Cole said the two were fighting in a car when Norman hit her head and he couldn't resuscitate her.
