I can find no updates on this case beyond the June articles from when MB was first arrested. This article dated Oct 23, states he was to have a court appearance on Nov 6th, but I've found nothing to say it happened or was rescheduled. Odd

It is odd. It has been so quiet ever since the arrest and MB's bawling in court back in June. I Hope Summer's children are doing okay despite all they have gone through. Poor things Breaks my heart.

I don't think he has gone on trial yet. The latest update I could find was from last month.

Michael Wayne Ballance II, 27, of New Bern, is charged with felony murder in connection with the death of his ex-wife, Summer Dawn Swindell, 22, of Havelock.

Swindell, mother of two small children, was reported missing from her Havelock apartment on April 28, 2015. After searching more than a month, a tip led investigators to an abandoned home in the Lake Tyler area of west New Bern. Swindell’s body was found inside.

I do when I have to, but in the last few years, within a 40 mile radius, from most recent. Look up Damion Edwards,(Kinston NC),(he did our drywall in our barn) we know his family, Laurie Ellis,(Kinston) (lived very close by) The Sara Graham case ,about 40 miles, here on WS, look up, Chasity Sumner,(10 miles from my home) I believe 8 years ago. The Laura Ackerson case,she lived 10 miles from me, I pass her apt. at least once a week.Now Summer,about 30 miles away
Sometimes my family just wants to pack necessaties and leave, but, where would we go? So sorry to vent

You must live near me. I'm in Lenoir County. I am currently reading the book written about the Laura Ackerson case.

Michael Wayne Balance II ., New Bern resident Michael Wayne Balance II reported his ex-wife Summer Swindell, 22, as missing, telling police she had left his residence in the company of an unknown man.

The body of the young mother of two was found some days later in the attic of a house in New Bern. Balance was charged with her death. His trial is pending and the DA’s office is awaiting lab results.

Havelock man pleads guilty to 2015 murder of ex-wife

NEW BERN, Craven County — A Havelock man pled guilty and was sentenced Thursday in the 2015 murder of his ex-wife.

Ballance pled guilty to one count of second degree murder. He was sentenced to between 23-29.5 years in prison. He was also ordered to repay Swindell's parents for the cost of her funeral.
