U.S./Canadian border has gotten stricter with I.D.s/passports since 9/11. Prior to that, driving to Toronto-NYS was not terribly strict from what I remember. I was thinking may be Sweat/Matt were able to get fake passports, if they planned escape far in advance. Idk, how difficult it would be to get fake passports through border or if possible. Are any country passports easier going through Canada? Investigators need to find and question individuals who may have helped them. Also, if Sweat/Matt are hiding in mountains, does LE have technology to spot "heat" from person (like the Boston bomber Tsaranev), idk? I bet the two are in more populated area or with someone who is hiding them out, and they may have separated early on. Jmo/

Agree. No there is no passport that's easier. We have relatives come over from Europe and pick them up at DTW. Cross back into Canada. Passports are swiped no matter where you are crossing. Your picture checked and you may get some questions. Randomly. I pray they are found soon as time goes on so does their desperation.

Greta Van S asked Matt's half-brother what Matt would do were he able to get his hands on a vehicle to travel far, how would he purchase gas without $, aside from committing more criminal acts. Brother stressed that if he couldn't con a [random] woman to get cash, he would try to get it from ex-GFs.

Wonder if he has one or two or even more female pen pals? Let's hope the Honor Block doesn't allow access to internet. What about the prison library. This psychopath is a master manipulator as many have said.

Hi Trigger my dear!! the binnoculars are quite scary and creepy - I would prefer to know nothing - I would freak if I thought I saw em!!!!!!!!!!!Something about locking my door with a chap who cuts up people just does not feel like I am taking menaingful precautions if they have a need!

When I read that-I was are you kidding me dude.
Can you imagine seeing them stare right back at you. I would freak out.

Wonder who had visited them.
Is there a visitor list we can look at? Probably not.
Hey, what about recently released prisoners?

They'll be caught soon enough, because they'll commit another crime. Sadly, someone else will be harmed by them. What's most puzzling to me is why anyone, knowing their violent background, would help them escape.

Perhaps another inmate on the Honor Block (released or still inside) was able to steer him towards an individual/s on the outside who could provide him with items, cash, transportation, temp place or safe passage out of area.

Maybe he befriended said inmate in the prison in the event he needed to use him down the road.

A version of the scenario of the released inmate who years ago bailed him out in exchange for the murder hits.

How would they get to VT?
By Ferry?
Steal a car?

Lake Champlain splits Vermont and New York, but there are two bridges and two ferryboats operating now that could have been used to get to the Green Mountains. There were no known reports of any boat thefts.

Vermont connection

Meanwhile, another Vermont link has emerged. The Burlington Free Press has determined the 23-year-old son of a prison worker suspected of aiding the killers is a member of the Vermont Air National Guard.

The prison worker, Joyce Mitchell, 51, has been questioned by police about the escape of the inmates, who worked in her sewing area, where she was a supervisor.

Tobey Mitchell is a senior airman with the 158th fighter wing, said Capt. Dyana Allen, an Air Guard spokeswoman. He is part of the maintenance group.

In spite of all the background we all have rooted out on these guys, and the portrait that has emerged, at the end of the day , we have to say, thus far, as far as we know, there has been no violence. For some reason, it makes me feel as if they are very far away, safe, and snug as a bug!

I agree! As soon as they begin to feel truly pressured, then the violence will begin.

Some notions. It seems there would have to be "more" help. Think about it. They would have to have been just filthy, crawling all that way in that stinky steam pipe. One would think that in and of itslef, someone walking around that dirty, would not be "noticed" upon popping up from the man hole.

I would also some assume they took advantage of the gym facility (!) that would take quite some strngth to crawl that far on elbows in the pipe!

ANyone know why the media reports the post it note note as racist? Cant think of a search term t learn that!

It was reported and shown in a picture I believe that they left behind green prison uniforms where they exited the pipe.

I have a feeling their helper on the inside was supposed to pick them up and take them so far - it couldn't be too far as it would raise suspicions about her whereabouts - at that point someone else was supposed to pick them up. I think they were headed on foot to that distination and it was probably only an hour away. That is where they would be headed on foot. JMO I bet she had a day off the day they came out of that pipe.

" The last man to escape from a New York prison is rooting for the two murderers who broke out of an upstate penitentiary.

"I hope they stay out of sight and don't commit any new crimes," Timothy Vail, 47, told the Daily News inside Shawangunk Correctional Facility in Wallkill."

<snip>

"In a remarkably candid 90-minute interview, Vail described in detail his botched bid for freedom and expressed admiration for escapees Richard Matt and David Sweat."

<snip>

"Vail has been closely following the case on NPR and suggested Matt and Sweat used techniques they learned from him. "There are so many similarities," said Vail"

<snip>

" Vail and fellow inmate Timothy Morgan were captured two days after their July 2003 escape from Elmira Correctional Facility.

They had spent four months chipping away at the steel-reinforced concrete ceiling using screws, a sledgehammer and other tools they smuggled out of a prison carpentry shop.

They concealed the hole with a piece of cardboard painted black and stuck to the ceiling with toothpaste. On the night of their escape, they left behind life-like dummies in their beds.

An "associate" had stashed a bag full of "survival gear" in the woods a fair distance from the prison, Vail said."

so far the only thing matt and sweat HAVEN"T done the same is having an associate stash a cache of survival gear etc near the prison.... or did they? makes you wonder...
