GUILTY OH - Brianna Ratliff, 20, Coshocton, 15 Apr 2021 *ARREST*

Ohio First-Degree Murder Laws - FindLaw

I don't know if FindLaw is considered a reliable source but this article says that "aggravated murder" in Ohio is essentially first degree murder.

The criteria that apply here seem to be 1) killing someone with malice aforethought and 2) killing a woman after committing another crime (there's a list of crimes; the pertinent one for this case would be rape).

A Coshocton man accused of killing a young woman changed his pleas to guilty Monday in Coshocton County Common Pleas Court.

Given said there is no agreed to sentencing recommendation and he will argue for life in prison with no possibility of parole on the murder charge. Defense attorney Zachuary Meranda of Columbus said he will argue for a lesser sentence. The minimum for the murder charge is life in prison with possible parole after 20 years. Grewell could also be fined up to $25,000 and will register as a violent offender for life if released from prison. Blake Grewell pleads guilty to murder of Brianna Ratliff

Wow. Sounds like they were pretty close, how heartbreaking, disgusting and disparaging. Who in the world can we trust if not our close friends? can't believe that this was premeditated and he actually derived pleasure from the idea of killing someone so pure seeming who had love for him. just the absolute tragedy. I am still reminded so much of the Aranda Briones case.
RIP to the beautiful lights of this world snuffed out heinously by greedy, insecure, selfish, sick people. moo
NO news whatsoever on Aranda's case since 2019. You're so right, and she didn't deserve that, and neither did Brianna. It's crazy how careful we all have to be of who to trust

Blake A. Grewell, of Coshocton, appeared in Coshocton County Common Pleas Court on December 13, 2021, and pleaded guilty to One Count of Aggravated Murder, an Unclassified Felony, One Count of Rape, a Felony of the First Degree, and to One Count of Tampering with Evidence, a Felony of the Third Degree. The State of Ohio is recommending the maximum penalty of life in prison without the possibility of parole. The Court revoked Grewell’s bond and he is to be held without bond until the date of sentencing, which will occur at a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation.

About 40 people broke out in applause as Judge Robert Batchelor adjourned a sentencing hearing for Grewell Wednesday in Coshocton County Common Pleas Court. It was in response to the 20-year-old from Coshocton receiving life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Grewell sat emotionless at the defense table as Batchelor read pieces of numerous letters about how kind, caring and generous Brianna was. Grewell showed no expression as Batchelor also sentenced him to an additional 36 months in prison for tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony, and an indefinite term of 11 to 16.5 years for rape, a first-degree felony.

Good. Additional long sentences to be served consecutively even if some "advocate" gets the murder conviction vacated on some technicality in a decade or two. I want my community to know that if you commit a crime like this you're done.
