GUILTY OH - Suzanne Taylor, 45, & two daughters slain, North Royalton, 11 June 2017 *2nd trial 2023 guilty*

Triple homicide trial postponed
The trial of George Brinkman Jr., the man who stands accused of the triple homicide of a North Royalton mother and her two adult daughters, has been postponed until November.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in this case.

Court personnel from the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas said the case has been continued at the request of the defendant, Brinkman, who also waived his right to a speedy trial.

The continuation was requested, and granted, for the purpose of discovery, gathering more information to help prepare Brinkman’s defense during both the guilt phase, where a jury will determine whether or not the defendant has committed the crimes, and the penalty phase, where if found guilty, a jury will determine if he will be executed.

Now scheduled for November 5th.

A panel of Cuyahoga County judges formally handed down three separate death sentences.

The judges also sentenced Brinkman, 46, to serve an additional 47 years in prison on charges including kidnapping, aggravated burglary and felonious assault related to the deaths.

Brinkman’s execution date was set for January 2020, but that is likely to be pushed back.

The Stark County trial of 47-year-old George Brinkman, of Plain Township, is scheduled for July 15. He has pleaded not guilty to charges including aggravated murder in the June 2017 deaths of 71-year-old Rogell “Gene” John and 64-year-old Roberta “Bobbi” John at their Lake Township home, where he was house-sitting.

Brinkman also was charged in the slayings of 42-year-old Suzanne Taylor, 21-year-old Taylor Pifer and 18-year-old Kylie Pifer in North Royalton around the same time. He pleaded guilty. Authorities have said Brinkman was a family friend and the motive was unclear.

Park bench dedicated in honor, remembrance of North Royalton family killed in their home

"Brinkman, who confessed to the killings, had been friends with Taylor since high school, but family believe he wanted to be more than friends."
....

"Organizers of Saturday's memorial said the Pifer sisters were avid readers and loved going to the local library. The newly dedicated park bench will now serve as a place for the community to remember and honor them."

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Ohio Supreme Court on Wednesday vacated the conviction and death penalty sentence for a man accused of killing a North Royalton woman and her two daughters.

The state’s high court ruled Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judges Peter Corrigan, Michael Shaughnessy and Timothy McCormick failed to advise George Brinkman of his rights before he pleaded guilty to aggravated murder charges.

III. Conclusion {¶ 23} Because the trial court failed to strictly comply with Crim.R. 11(C)(2)(c) before accepting Brinkman’s guilty plea, we sustain proposition of law No. II. As a result, we need not reach Brinkman’s remaining propositions of law. We vacate Brinkman’s convictions and sentences and remand the cause to the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court for new proceedings. Judgment vacated

What the heck? Is this the fault of the Ohio Supreme Court (who has had some real problems lately) or a problem with the Cuy Co judges? Does this mean this crazy, violent killer will go free?

He's not going anywhere. He has two additional death sentences in a different county, Stark County, for killing a couple in 2017. Though, he's probably appealed those so let's hope they stick.

I can think of 3 judges who need to be replaced, though. I checked their bios, at least 2 of them were Ivy League educated attorneys. SMH

- A judge set another trial date Tuesday for confessed killer George Brinkman.

Brinkman was found guilty for killing five people in two attacks.

But his conviction and death sentence in one of those cases has been up in the air for the last year.

Brinkman will face a judge next on December 19.

The trial has been set for January 11, 2023.

It’s possible Brinkman will take a plea before making it to trial next January.

If he does, he will have to do so in front of a panel of three judges, since it’s a death penalty case.

A three-judge panel found Brinkman guilty six months ago for the murders of Suzanne Taylor and her daughters Taylor and Kylie Pifer of North Royalton back in June 2017.

Thank goodness he confessed to the murders in court. This case was mishandled before, so its a relief that he is finally found guilty and will serve his time.

SMH at the screw ups on this case. Some people should be replaced. JMO
