Coleman did escape at one point, but was already on Death Row when this article was published in 1983, and Jeanette was found in 1988. I don't think she had been deceased that long.

And on April 23, 1979, an ex-convict accused of double murder named Charles Troy Coleman crawled to freedom through a hole in the roof over the jail's visiting area... Coleman had reason to want out of jail. He was being held on first-degree murder charges in the shooting deaths of a rural Muskogee couple, Mr. and Mrs. John Seward, who had interrupted his burglary of a home.

Within hours of his escape, Coleman had made his way to Tulsa where he killed a visiting Missouri man, Russell E. Lewis, and stole Lewis's car. His path then led to the Oklahoma City area where he slit the throat of Luther police officer Tommy Dotson and left Dotson to die in the back seat of his patrol car. The officer survived.

Coleman's crime spree ended five days later with his arrest in Arizona. He had a kidnapped lawman with him when he surrendered.

Was that woman ever even reported missing? I am glad the person has been identified, but sad that it seems no one was looking for her.

I also noticed how far off the sculpture and sketch are from her in reality. Disappointing.

According to one of the articles, a next of kin was identified as a sister back in California. I agree that it is very disappointing to not see a missing persons report filed. I guess no one missed her.

5 The trial court ruled that Jeanette Coleman was the common law wife of the defendant's older brother Abe Coleman, whom she had not divorced; therefore, she could not be the defendant's common law wife.

I don't think being in the water had a lot to do with the poorly executed sculpture, but perhaps the sketch was more difficult to do. The sculpture should have been done with a scientific approach on thickness of normal skin etc by a professional. It looked like a woman 15-20 years older and not at all like her, imo.

The problem with reporting them missing is that somebody might find them. I know, if you're here trying to identify these UIDs that sounds extremely odd. But as a family member of mentally ill drug user, who's whereabouts are unknown, believe me, it's not. I don't wish my sister ill, but I sure as hell don't want the police to find her and tell her that my mother or I filled a missing person's report on her. If she ever showed up at my house, my first move would be to call 911 and have her hauled off to jail (although, if they won't keep her there for biting a police officer, they're probably not going to do it for coming into contact with her former children.)

I hope they identify her and find her killer, too. It's sad for anyone to end up like this. I just always try to keep in mind that the reason a person's family isn't looking for them isn't always sinister. Sometimes it's just self-protection or protecting others.

Almost 30 years after a grisly discovery in a northeast Oklahoma river, a murder suspect has been arrested.

James Ray Vogel, 55, of Muskogee, is accused in an indictment in the 1988 death of Jeanette Ellen Coleman.

Grand jurors allege he acted "in concert" with another man from the Muskogee area, James West, to cause Coleman's death. West has not been charged.

"The investigation is ongoing," prosecutor Jack Thorp said Thursday.

Who does these things and lives with themselves. Could have been me...leaving a bar, young and stupid with two maniacs! How very quickly and terrifying that a life can be taken and discarded.

Just went back to read this case...surely I only knew half the story. Maybe she was involved in jis sprees with her "common-law-husband"....although Murderpedia states he was the brother of her common-law husband, Abe.

So, she was used to being with some pretty violent men...still horrible to be discarded rhar way out of life.

Citing a scheduling conflict, defense attorney Donn F. Baker filed a motion for continuance in a Dec. 20 preliminary hearing for a Muskogee man accused of murdering a woman known as "Daisy Doe."

James Ray Vogel, 55, was arrested in August for killing a woman whose body was discovered below the Fort Gibson Dam in 1988.

The preliminary hearing has been postponed until 1 p.m. on Jan. 29.

I'm a newbie here and my 1rst post is a response to your comment above regarding the Daisy Doe Murder.My father who use to frequent the bars in Okay,Muskogee and around says this woman left the bar with 2 men namely,Earl Cawvey Sr, (deceased) and Grover Nail (deceased).he knew them both as they were all drink'g buddies.He said Earl was a mean SOB who liked to choke women as he did his wives.Earl's own mother,Clara Dee Cawvey, allegedly drowned in Fort Gibson River when she stepped off n2 a water hole. 'Daisy Doe' murder case postponed until May - March 20th

The preliminary hearing for a man accused of the 1988 murder of a Muskogee woman has been postponed until May.

James Ray Vogel was scheduled to go before Assistant District Judge Mark Dobbins Monday morning.

However, with Vogel's attorney scheduled to be in Adair County District Court at the same time and with both the defense and the District Attorney's Office still awaiting grand jury transcripts, a continuance has been granted until 9 a.m. on May 2.
