GUILTY OK - Jeremey Lake, 19, fatally shot by off-duty Tulsa PD officer, 5 Aug 2014 *arrest*

A police spokeswoman told FOX23 it is hard to investigate fellow officers, but others in the area said a case like this makes them lose faith in officers...

“It does pull on the heart strings because these individuals were on our department for 24 years. So, everybody knows who they are,” Roberson said. She said detectives are investigating the crimes as they would any other homicide and that this incident shouldn’t affect people’s view of Tulsa police...

But Lake’s aunt, Pam Wilkins, said it does affect things. “The very people that’s supposed to be protecting are the ones killing for no reason,” said Wilkins.

A patrol officer from 1990 to 2000, Kepler then worked as a detective in Child Exploitation for 4 years. For the past ten years his office has been at the training academy where he made sure officers stayed certified.

One of the bullets grazed Lake's 13-year-old brother...

During a news conference held on Wednesday, Lisa Kepler stated that she had been kicked out of the Kepler home one week ago due to what she referred to as bad “life decisions”...

Neighbors of the family expressed shock on Wednesday, saying that the Keplers were “perfect” neighbors who had “given and given” to Lisa Kepler and her two sisters, who they had adopted several years ago.

Not sure whether this is news covered by Okiegranny's links. Sorry if it is a repeat.

One link, IIUC, can't recall which one, said daughter had been diagnosed w Reactive Attachment Disorder.

Looks like info coming out now will enlighten us about both families involved.

Sad, sad, sad. RIP Jeremey.

This is bizarre :waitasec:

I can't think of thing that Jeremy could have done to deserved to be gunned down in the street.

They are cold blooded killers.

Jeremey and Lisa had made a Facebook profile together, as Lisa's parents have themselves. Really sad and senseless.

It's not about what Jeremey did. The real issue is the father not having the control he wanted. IMO

Jeremey seemed like a really nice and caring kid.

Another poster said his FB said in a relationship w Lisa.

Did I misread or misremember -
Lisa had only met Jeremey one week ago?
One week is a relationship?

For once we agree:)

Poor kid, he shoulda had his whole life to live.

regardless of what the BF may have said to dad when he approached the car, it didn't deserve this IMO.

If they really also shot at the daughter, whoa...

I really hope others come here to read this thread soon. At its face, this is truly WTF.

the link I posted above states that the dad not only shot the young man but fired 2-3 shots at his daughter! WHY? I really want to hear more about this crime.

In the world of the under-thirties, a facebook 'relationship' after a week is not that abnormal.

The wife of a Tulsa, Oklahoma police officer accused of killing their daughter's boyfriend was released Thursday night from jail, where she had been held on charges of accessory to murder. Gina Kepler, 48, who is also a city cop, was freed on $25,000 bond from the Tulsa County Jail and must appear in court on Tuesday, according to jail records.

She declined to comment to NBC affiliate KJRH as she walked out, saying "please respect my privacy." She made two telephone calls, which weren't answered, then walked into downtown Tulsa without a ride, the station reported.

The attorney claims Shannon Kepler has a perfect defense and added that this case will go very slow because of elections.

Shannon Kepler, who is accused of shooting Lake and firing a gun at his daughter, has never been the subject of any disciplinary action, according to the Tulsa Police Department.

Gina Kepler, however, has been suspended without pay on two occasions during her time on the force. In June 2012, the Gilcrease Division patrol officer was cited for a number of violations, including failing to respond to an alarm call and several orders to back another officer as well as remaining at home while on duty multiple times. The violations, which occurred during December 2011, resulted in a five-day suspension without pay.

In June 25, 2014, Gina Kepler was again suspended for five days without pay after she was found sleeping in the parking lot of the Gilcrease Division while on duty.

Each person that spoke to FOX23 at the vigil Thursday talked about how much time Lake spent volunteering; whether it was serving food at the Day Center for the Homeless or fixing bikes for people who couldn’t afford it...

Lake had a lot of friends in Tulsa. So many that his family says they’ve been visited all day long by people they don’t even know, but who say Jeremy touched their lives. Jeremy was known for his kindness. “He was always out for the underdog; those who were the unlovable. Those were the ones he loved,” Lake’s aunt Pam Wilkins said.

Lake spent time in the Tulsa boy’s home for a few years. His family thinks it’s where he developed his gift of compassion. It was a gift so strong it never surprised them when he brought home any stranger he felt needed something they could give.
