GUILTY OK - John, 50, Joy, 48, & Katherine Hruby, 17, murdered, Duncan, 9 Oct 2014

---
"People will do desperate things when they are cut off from their source that funded their addiction, but this is one of the rare cases I have ever heard in terms of a possible shopaholic killing anybody over that," said Dr. Terrence Shulman.

As far as Alan boasting about his lifestyle on social media, Shulman sees that as a window into Alan's mind.

"That tends to sometimes reflect a narcissistic personality trait where people have a fragile sense of self and they have to appear bigger than life to others," said Shulman.

Expert Discusses Shopping Addiction As Possible Motive (news9.com)

I have a funny feeling that this young man has had a history of issues that his family & friends knew about......I suspect more will be coming out.

This was my thought also. Looking at the family photo above all smiles and there he stands ticking down to this terrible murder of his family. Maybe he will try a plea deal to avoid the death penalty. Jmo

ciao

Just reading a bit about the kid yesterday, before he was charged, I thought "narcissist with an inferiority complex" (ok I have some psych hours but this was much more a "human nature" guess). No idea if such a combo's in DSM-5 but I'd expect it's there in one form or another.

Hey there, Waiting, Thx for the link.
And see what it leads to--

Alan's bucket list w 50+ items, and w lots of foreign travel, virtually all items are on the pricey side; most can simply be bought.
Ex: Go into space on Virgin Galactic; Own a plane; Visit every continent.
Very few items are geared toward accomplishments-- like learning a foreign language.

Looks like most anybody w $xx,*advertiser censored*,*advertiser censored* could buy their way thru the list. Kinda sad in a way.
And he crossed 3 items off list (see Rome, Paris, Pompeii) by his criminal activity, his bogus Amex card or bogus use of G'ma's legit card. Very sad.
And his way of thinking, eventually, leading to these deaths. The ultimate tragedy.

Last two words above may be relevant in determining family dynamics.

Waiting, Thanks again.
Another tangent from leaping off your pointing to wayback machine, w Alan's soc media. Here's one from Mar 2014.

Ever since I can remember I have loved nothing more than to go shopping.. I’m not talking about the marathon let’s make a day out of shopping, let’s make a couple of hours out of it. But what I have really recently enjoyed is watching my points balance grow.
Every single one of my credit cards has a points earning feature or a cash back feature. If you are already spending the money why not earn some points for spending it so that you can go on a vacation you thought you could never afford. One website I read pretty much religiously, other than TMZ, is The Points Guy. He is someone who writes a blog about different ways to earn and maximize on the amount of points you earn....

"So the next time your slapping yourself trying to figure out how to take a vacation this year and you don’t have a points earning card you’ve only got your self to blame. It is probably the easiest and cheapest way to travel. Usually when you book a plane ticket with miles the only thing you pay for is the taxes associated with that ticket.

Alan blogged as if he is a financial advisor, giving out gems of wisdom about getting free/discounted travel,
when any travel he 'earned' w CC usage apparently came from his criminal activity.
Ironic?

Oklahoma triple-murder defendant made incriminating mistakes

DUNCAN — Triple-murder defendant Alan J. Hruby stuck to his plan to kill his family even though he made a major mistake on the first of two secret trips home last week, new details from the investigation show.

Early Oct. 9, about 1 a.m., Hruby was pulled over in his Jeep by Duncan police — for a traffic violation, Police Chief Danny Ford said.

The University of Oklahoma freshman told an officer he did not have his driver’s license. He gave police a fake name and a fake date of birth and was let go with a ticket, the chief said.

The actual trip to Europe was paid for by dad John's vouchers. It was all the extra's that were put on the Grandmother's credit line/fake card he got in trouble for.
John Hruby told police he had given his son an airline voucher to use, and Alan Hruby had traveled to Europe in June 2013.

I stand corrected.

But I still think he sounds a bit full of himself saying--
"Every single one of my credit cards has a points earning feature or a cash back feature.'. bbm

Esp w his other posts about how to get accepted to college (in spring of his sr yr of high school), etc.

Dispensing a lot of advice about many other subjects. 18-19 y/o. Really?

That lying dog. I wonder if Duncan LEO who stopped him remembered him, maybe had dash cam or badge cam recording?

I see how LE zeroed in more, from ^link^.
"Investigators concluded Hruby made two trips from OU to Duncan last week, although he initially told police he had not been home for days. The incriminating evidence against him included Pikepass records, The Oklahoman has learned. The records show he used the turnpike to travel from Norman to Duncan and back during his first trip home last week. Investigators used a search warrant Tuesday afternoon to get all of Hruby’s toll records since June 1."

I listen to police scanners all the time. When LE stops a person, they give the dispatcher the car/truck plate number. Afterwards they say if the person got a warning, ticket or arrest. Not only was he probably on dash cam he was most likely on turnpike video at some point.
From SeriousltSearching's link:

Hruby did not use the turnpike on his second trip to Duncan, The Oklahoman has learned. ( so it means he used the turnpike for the first visit)

Not only a big spender but some gambling may be involved. In my opinion that loan shark that he owed could be connected with gambling....

Police are investigating whether he had a gambling problem. He tweeted a photo of himself at a casino Aug. 3, holding a payout voucher that looks to be under $50. “I was the big winner. #casino,” he wrote.

Thanks for further info in your post.
Have not listened to LE scanners but am sure they are enlightening. I know scanners have bn helpful to W/S in many other cases.

Did hruby have a girlfriend or was he just spending money on himself. Who was he trying to impress? Jmt

ciao

Thanks for all the updates. Just curious, did everyone have him as your suspect? Or were you looking elsewhere?

This is an interview with his sister's best friend. Just heartbreaking! It sounds like he had been taking more money from the family recently. The University housing that he lived in, was the most expensive on campus. It was where most of the athletes stay. Only a few non-athletes are housed there. He drove a new jeep. It sounds like he was never enough for this entitled kid.
