Did they take his bike away from his campsite? What if he comes back and now has no ride out?

I would assume, and I could be wrong, that LE would take possession of the dirt bike. Kevin's former employer stated LE did not let him examine the bike to see if there was something wrong with it, so based on that statement I would think it is considered evidence or potential evidence.

I would lean towards left on his own. It was the 2nd 90 degree day in a row and of the season. That area is very rugged. The trail is nicknamed "Rocksylvania" in that area. Could certainly have issues in the woods, but getting lost would be hard. It is one ridge and walking down the mountain in any direction would lead to a road. Plenty of backpackers going through there now. It is mostly all ridge walking from Wind Gap to the Delaware Water Gap. Riding on the trail would be illegal. I believe it is National Park Service land from the Water Gap to Totts Gap, where the radio tower would be. The land next to that I believe is State Game Lands.

I can't get beyond thinking he may have harmed himself. I pray that he is at peace with whatever has taken place.

I saw some pics of the area. From Google Earth arial view it doesn't look that rugged or interesting, but from ground view it is green and lush and vast and rugged, and beautiful. It does appear as though he could get lost, or fall and not be able to be spotted easily. If he chose to hike to the water, something accidental and unexpected may have happened and he just hasn't been "stumbled upon" yet.

If he yelled out, would his voice echo, or get absorbed by all the greenery? Is there wildlife, like bears or cougars, out there?

Every time the radio tower is mentioned, I think "what a fine place to jump from""

I hope they've searched it from top to bottom, and that Kevin is found alive somewhere.

It is a lot more rugged that it looks on Google Earth. There are both large cats and bears, as I have seen them in that area with my own eyes. There are plenty of places where you could fall to your death. Pennsylvania does also have poisonous snakes, like rattlers and copperheads, but in the 47 years I lived there I never saw one.

But from Wind Gap to Delaware Water Gap is only 20 miles. There are roads that intersect the mountain in that area, so it would not be that hard to find a road, especially if you are familiar with the lay of the land.

From what I understand, Kevin and his friends were big on riding the power line that runs from the Mount Bethel area up over the mountain through Cherry Valley. I am sure whichever power company owns these lines maintains them, and am not sure what rights you have to legally access them for any sort of use. You can clearly see the power line on Google Earth, and the path it takes northwest from Mount Bethel.

I don't think you are allowed motorized vehicles in the state game lands in PA. I do know that rule enforcement got a lot stricter between 15-20 years ago when they change some of the usage rules. I am an avid equine trail rider, and we were extremely limited as to where we could be in state gamelands, as were mountain bikers, after the rules were changed. Part of the reason for the rule change was we were told that horses and mountain bikes were causing severe erosion, so I would assume anything motorized would fall into that category as well. That does not mean people don't take their chances and use the state game lands anyway. You only get punished if you get caught!

I live in Eastern Pennsylvania and am also an avid off-road rider of mostly ATV,s and UTV,s and occasionally dual sport bikes. State game lands will open some dirt roads during hunting season that can be used by registered dual sport bikes between November and January only and must have a legal Pennsylvania registration. Most power lines are off limits always, however lots of local people will still insist on riding them even though they are breaking the law. I cannot believe they have not found this young man. Very sad.

From the Pocono article :(
Youngling last saw Woolf when leaving for work Monday morning and spoke to him at about 10 that night. He told her he was going out to ride the trails.

Youngling last spoke with him by phone at about 5 a.m. Tuesday.

“He told me he had tipped the bike a couple of times and fallen,” she said. “The bike had flooded and he’d been letting it sit for awhile. He was going to start it up again and head home soon. I told him to just hurry home. I said I’d come looking for him if he wasn’t back in an hour. He said he couldn’t wait to get back and hold me. The last thing he said was ‘I love you.’”

When well more than an hour had passed and Woolf still hadn’t returned home, Youngling went looking for him.

“I drove back roads, thinking maybe he’d broken down or run out of gas,” she said. “I figured maybe he’d forgotten his tools, which he always keeps on the bike. I figured he was somewhere walking and that I’d run into him. When some time passed and he still didn’t turn up, I called his mom and she gave me a general area of where he might be. I kept looking, driving and walking on trails and calling his name.”

Tuesday became Wednesday.

“No one had seen or heard anything from him,” Youngling said, struggling with tears. “It finally got to the point where I realized I had to call and report him missing. So, I did.”
