Alejandro Trujillo has been in the news a lot since last year as this is another complicated murder case. To make the story short, he is the "suspected" assassin of Myriam Fefer and the intellectual authors of the murder are suspected to be Myriam's daughter, Eva Bracamonte and her former partner, Liliana Castro (they are also being held in jail). I don't think that there's nearly as much animosity against Trujillo as there is towards Eva, but no one is really safe in prison.

I had to wait a few days since I registered to be able to post... I'm from Lima, and having this case in the news all the time makes me think about it a lot. I'm 21, I have some friends who went to school with Stephany. I live about 1 km from the Hotel...

There's been speculation on why Stephany went with VDS to the hotel, but what I find strange is what she did earlier in the day (it might be related to what motivated her to go with VDS). I tried looking for discussion on this in one of the threads but couldn't find anything specific. El Comercio mentions that in the afternoon she picked up her friend Carola and went with her to the Hotel Pacífico (why did she go to the hotel? this isn't the tourist kind of hotel... I think this is why there have been rumors that she was a lesbian before it was known that she didn't have sex with VDS).

Another friend met them and the three girls went to a pub in Barranco. Stephany took the girls home but dropped of first the one that lived in Chacarilla, close to her own home, and then the one that lives in San Isidro. I don't know how her friends would think that she wasn't going to the Casino after picking this route, it makes little sense otherwise... If she was thinking of going home she would've dropped of the San Isidro girl first...

I'll try to keep track of the VDS threads... Maybe I could also translate some articles.

Thank you for joining us. As you can tell, we get very thirsty for first-hand and accurate information. I hope you enjoy your time here, or find it informative. Enjoy is not the appropriate word, is it?

WELCOME!!

I heard him answer in Spanish, too. Aruba is very close to Spanish-speaking countries on the S.A. mainland. And isn't the Aruban dialect called "Papimiento" (IIRC) a pigeon mix of Spanish and Dutch?

It wouldn't surprise me if Spanish is commonly taught in Aruban schools.

The Aruba International School certainly would have taught mandatory Castillian Spanish, English and may be some other languages.
When I went to school in The Netherlands, English ,French and German were mandatory after sixth grade. Spanish was an elective, so was Esperanto.
Papiamento is an interesting mix of various languages and spoken in the Dutch Antilles. Portuguese is also mixed in it. It kind of reminded me of Esperanto, a man made international language that really never took hold.

Not sure if this has been brought up ..
but since the accused are in prison for such a long time before they go to trial ..I guess they do not have have a Bondsman or Bail system there?
Good evening and everyone! :seeya:

No, I haven't heard anything about bail either. Even if they had the same system we have here in the US he would definitely be a flight risk especially since he's a foreign national in Peru. MOO

Thanks very much for that link, Nums.

Interesting Nums; you have filled one of the blanks; that being, that Elton was also staying at Hotel Tac. Wonder what room. There were a few articles, that seemed to infer that Elton was "hovering" on the sidelines. Some translations inferred that he and Stephany were together, as in roommates. Couldn't figure out if this ment "room mates/sharing" a hotel room, or what.

Yes, indeed, the translations in and out of Spanish, will blur the intended meaning of the article.

Thanks Nums and to you guys up there, for helping me sort out this nitpicking detail.

Nancy's on talking about Joran. :)

Defense attorney quits.

Photos of Castro Castro prison.

Joran: will give up location of Natalee's body to get back to Aruba.

And Joran has already proven a willingness to 'rabbit' away from trouble as fast as possible.

Exactly! Back to the original question though, I do wonder if they have bail for lesser crimes even though it sure wouldn't apply with Joran.

Nancy's talking to Jean C. about Joran being processed into the prison, a mugshot taken, fingerprints taken and on record for him. Video of the prison from National Geographic film (not Joran). Jean C. says it has over 1500 people, poverty stricken area outside Lima, everyone jailed according to their offense except those in solitary, food he receives is what jail personnel receives because of fear of poisoning, eventually will be in general population.

Michael Griffith via phone talking about the prison, previous lawsuit against it. He believes it will be a "holding facility" for Joran until convicted and then sent to another prison. Nancy asking about prison uniforms. Jean C. explainng the authorities say uniforms considered "too degrading".

Actually at this point, isn't Aruba better off with Joran in Peru? It would seem to me that the only danger for Aruba is if Joran knows the names of the people involved in the cover up in Aruba, the extent of the cover-up for Natalie's death, and starts talking. I would think Aruban officials are keeping their fingers crossed that someone knocks JVDS off, thereby eliminating their problems. End of JVDS, end of Aruban problems. It seems to me Aruba gains nothing by getting Joran to Aruban soil unless they plan to knock him off to shut him up.

NG: caller asking about the "coffee video", noting Joran comes out of the room with two cups of coffee, then asks attendant to let him into the room. Nancy appears to have just noticed this also.

It is scary though ...apparently you could be arrested for driving a taxi .. I mean the taxi driver picked up a fare , and boom JORAN was his customer and he gets in trouble. I dont know it just seems scary.. wrong place wrong time. Did they ever straighten things out for the Taxi guys?

The judge will have to make a series of measures, including reconstruction of the crime and the confrontation of the Dutchman with the taxi drivers that led him to Tacna, where he fled to Chile. It transpired that Van der Sloot said that they knew that he fled because he has committed a crime, but these have denied it.

I am assuming from this that JVDS threw the cab drivers under the bus.

Hmmm...... imagine that. Sounds faintly similiar to how he threw the security guards under the bus in Aruba. Anyone else seeing a pattern here?

Bad example. Looks like he has a flush draw with the hearts. Right now Joran is praying for such a miracle.

With all due respect, you don't play much poker, do you? One heart in the hand and two showing do not make a flush draw on the River. ;)

Caller: tells NG that Joran comes out of the room first with the coffee.

NG: Take a look, Joran DOES comes out of the room with coffee first.

Me: :censored:

Yeah, she's really paying attention to what she airs eh? :floorlaugh:

No doubt bringing $50 bills.

Could be, Columbo. I'm interested in how you think they could go about that after all they've swept under the carpet? Gad, that sounds snarkey - not intended! :) Seriously... they've done everything possible to hinder an investigation and plenty to cover up. I just don't see any possible way they could spin it in a way that wouldn't expose themselves.

hi suzihawk,
You don't sound snarkey-- I don't know why they'd want to open this can of worms again. I guess I expect some high-powered lawyer or politician to come up with some way to make it look good for Aruba after all the covering up they did. I just can't figure out how. Maybe they will go on an "honesty campaign" and do a real, full-scale p.r. program ?
My brain is vapor-locked !

Wow, how dirty the prison is, & many of those guys look & act very hungry / thirsty.

Great place to vent:
