Thank you Richard for your comprehensive list. You are so organized. And this list contains much more detail than the one I am working on. This is a huge help.

Everyone: Sorry if this post is OT but I just thought the list Richard provided deserved a formal thank you and not just the little thanks button on the bottom of the post.

I agree with STL! Thank you so much Richard, well done!!!!!!!!

I just found this guy and wanted to get some opinions. He is accused of a 1995 rape of a 12 year old girl. I'm just thinking that if he did this,it probably wasn't the first time. There is also the Annapolis(ransom)connection. I believe that the ransom thing was a hoax, but just wanted to put him out there.http://jonathanturley.org/2009/03/2...-12-year-old-girl-while-teaching-at-anapolis/

Quoting from the link provided:
Mar 18, 2009 : Anne Arundel County Police have charged a retired Naval Academy professor with raping and molesting a 12-year-old girl.
Police spokesman Sgt. John Gilmer says _______ 66, is accused of abusing the girl while he was working as a computer science professor in 1994 and 1995. He taught at the university from 1976 to 2003 when he retired.... (unquote)

This person stands accused of a crime which allegedly occurred in 1995. I leave out his name because he is innocent until proven guilty.

But for the purposes of discussion, he would have been about 32 at the time of the Lyon sisters' disappearance. The his accusor was 12 at the time of the alleged offense, which was the same age as Sheila.

Annapolis is about a 45 to 60 minute drive from Wheaton, MD, depending on time of day and traffic.

It would be nice to know the specifics of the accusation and also his whereabouts in March of 1975.

Please note Teresa's description and the fact that she left home on 1 August 1975. One possible destination was Pennsylvania.

To get to Pennsylvania, she would likely have driven through North Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland.

Fred Coffey was on the move at this same time, having left Wheaton/Aspen Hill Maryland in a rush immediately after reports of Kathy Beatty's survival from a vicious attack.

Could Teresa and Fred Coffey have crossed paths?

Could the following three cases be related to each other? Could they be related in some way to the disappearance of the Lyon sisters, which took place less than two years prior to the first of these three disappearances?

Note the similarities in age, location, physical description, and circumstances. Each was small in size and each was enroute to somewhere when she disappeared.

Virginia Beach was the residence of Fred Howard Coffey, Jr. just before his move to Montgomery County, Maryland and it was his residence immediately after he left his job at Vitro Laboratories in Montgomery County.

In September 1974, he was discharged from the Navy following his rape of a 13 year-old girl in Virginia Beach. Then, in October 1975, he was arrested for "contributing to the delinquency of a minor" involving a 15 year-old girl - again in Virninia Beach.

Each of the following cases has its own thread in the Websleuths Cold Cases section.

In the wee hours of August 23, Barbara Jean left her sister and set out on foot for Peabody's where she had a date with a bartender. Somewhere along Pacific Avenue, she vanished. Witnesses told police they saw her get into a car.

The spring after her disappearance, an informant came forward, seeking a reward. He told of local guys who drove Barbara Jean to a cottage near Oceana where they raped and strangled her. They dumped her body in the water, he said. The informant reportedly passed a police polygraph test, but prosecutors declined to offer him immunity in return for his testimony because they thought he was involved in the killing.

I have updated the above post because several things in it have changed since it was first written. The contact for this case has changed and the agency in charge is now the Pennsylvania State Police.

Also, the link has been updated and if you click on it, you will see an updated photo of how Tracy would look today.

Of all the possible cases linked to the Lyon Sisters, I feel this is perhaps the strongest. Just my opinion, but I base it on a number of factors.

While both cases have an absence of any physical evidence, there is a similarity and close proximity in time and geography that cannot be ignored.

A major road which runs through Wheaton is Georgia Ave. It is also called Highway 97. This road runs north from Maryland into Pennsylvania and it passes Hoffman Homes where Tracy Anne King was last seen. It is also the road near which Kathy Lynn Beatty was abducted, attatcked and left for dead. It also connects with Viers Mill Road and crosses University Blvd a block away from Wheaton Plaza.

Tracy was a year older than Sheila Lyon and the same age as Kathy Lynn Beatty. All of these children disappeared while out alone, walking a short distance from their homes.

Two other girls; Wendy Eaton and Edna Thorne also disappeared while walking near their homes in Southern Pennsylvania in May and June 1975 respectively. As with the other cases, there was no physical evidence and their cases remain unsolved.

Tracy Anne King went missing on 8 July 1975 and she was the closest in proximity to the Maryland cases. Hoffman Homes, where she had been staying, was only two miles from Highway 97. Littlestown is only a couple of miles from the PA/MD state line and less than an hour drive from the Wheaton/Aspen Hill Maryland area.

This case has only recently been posted on the Doenetwork. Note that it occurred in 1975, only a few months after Sheila and Kate and several other children went missing.

Even if this case is not linked directly with their disappearance, there are a number of similarities.

Teresa Lynn Rhodes
Missing since September 27, 1975 from Greensburg, Westmoreland County, PA

Vital Statistics

Date of Birth: January 15, 1962
Age at Time of Disappearance: 13
Height: 5'3"
Weight: 120 lbs
Eye Color: Hazel
Hair Color: Brown
Distinguishing Characteristics: Scar from a dog bite on her upper lip, believed to be on the left side.
Clothing: A red and white jacket, red slacks
Nickname: Teri

Case Details

On Saturday, September 27, 1975, at around 11 a.m., Teri Rhodes, of South Greensburg, Pennsylvania left her home to go to a girlfriend's house.
At 13, Teri was not yet allowed to date. She never missed dinner time and always, when she left the house, would tell where she was going.

It was later discovered, however, that going to a friend's house, or shopping at the mall, may have been cover stories for a lifestyle she'd been introduced to, one that included a former South Greensburg police officer later convicted for a contract murder, a friend of the cop who was allegedly into the drug world and who had a fondness for young girls, and a so-called 'party house' on Bell Way in Greensburg.

Teri's disappearance was initially viewed as that of a runaway and was treated as such, despite the fact that when she left her home that afternoon, she didn't take her purse or pack a bag and none of her clothes were missing. Yet there were no press releases, no media coverage and the original police report only contains a description of Teri and the words "possible runaway".

It was years after Teri disappeared that her friend admitted that the two girls had been at the Bell Way house on that Saturday. The friend last saw Teri at about 6pm as she (the friend) was leaving the party with a man. The friend made it home that night. Teri didn't.

In 1987, a relative of Teri's family contacted a local psychic. Information the psychic gave led to a search of Schenley Park in Pittsburgh, and another search in 1989 at St Clair Park in Greensburg. No trace of Teri was found.

Another lead came from an incarcerated confidential informant to the state police. Teri's body was allegedly buried in an area of Keystone State Park locally referred to as "Transylvania", an area known in the '60s and '70s as a lover's lane and keg party site. But again, Teri's remains weren't found.

Over the years, tips have trickled in, but the questions to what happened to Teri Rhodes on that Saturday in 1975 have not been answered and she remains missing.

I posted the below information three years ago (post 108, Page 5 of this thread). The link to the news story no longer works.

Tina's case is not included in NCMEC or the Doenetwork. She is also not listed in the Delaware State Police Website.

Does anyone have any more information about her or her disappearance?

She has been missing for over 35 years now. As Delaware is adjacent to Maryland, could this case be linked to the disappearance of the Lyon Sisters only a month later?

This is the first I have heard of this little girl. She disappeared in the month before the Lyon Sisters disappeared, under similar circumstances. Note the similarities in descriptions.

Could this case be linked to that of the Lyon Sisters and to disappearances of other children in Maryland and nearby states in 1975?

... Tina Faye Kemp's family hasn't seen her for more than 32 years. ...

Tina Faye Kemp

Kemp was 14 years old when she disappeared in 1975. It was around 9 a.m. Feb. 3, a Saturday morning, when she left her home on Main Street in Felton.

"She just disappeared, no indication of where she was going," Hudson said.
She had no known family problems or any other indications that she would be a runaway, he said.

Because she was known to frequent horse-racing tracks in Delaware and surrounding states, police follow up with neighboring states whenever remains are found at a horse track.

But neither that nor other investigative efforts have netted solid leads.

Kemp, who was 5 feet tall and weighed about 100 pounds, had a medium build, brown hair and blue eyes. She last was seen wearing a white sweater, red and blue flannel shirt, blue jeans and red-and-white tennis shoes. ...
