Australia Samantha Murphy, 51, last seen leaving her property to go for a run in the Canadian State Forest, Ballarat, 4 Feb 2024 *Arrest* #9

It seems unlikely that an apprentice electrician would have a work phone. It is not as if the accused's phone number would be advertised as a work number. Any customers would be calling his boss (dad) for service.

I am sure his boss (dad) would have his personal phone number, and may even be paying for the accused's personal phone on his business phone account - or be paying the accused a phone allowance in his pay.
Which could be a legitimate tax-deductible expense for the business, as his boss (dad) would likely need to call the accused to coordinate meet-up times/places and the work required.

Unless there is evidence that is 150% conclusive that PS murdered SM the accused may plead not guilty to murder and choose not to answer any questions in court surrounding the alleged murder. Anyone who can maintain silence on the whereabouts of a body is more than capable of leaving it to the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Look at the resources from day 1 of this case and still no body. The accused is either not guilty and doesn't have a clue where SM is or is an extremely callous albeit smart individual who can control his own emotions very well to the point of fending off every known police effort to extract the location of the body.
The evidence does not have to be 150% conclusive, but that would sure help. A jury has to find beyond reasonable doubt. Those 3 magical words have been dissected in jury rooms across the country. Thankfully Judges can answer that question in relation to each case.

Excellent point

Sebastopol?
Hmmm...
I remember this name popped up early in these threads.
(I even asked why Russian town name - Sevastopol - appeared in Australia)

But not sure what was it about Sebastopol that was connected to Samantha's disappearance and discussed in the thread.
So much time has passed and I forgot

I think the accused will plead not guilty in August.
No cooperation.
Total denial.

Dotta, that was the place were a couple were found dead in their home not long after SM went missing. Think it was a murder-suicide, can't really remember. But LE said at the time it was unrelated to SM.

Why did Police ask the public about the damaged car?

Did someone see such a damaged car entering the park/forest?

Or being in the area/travelling through the park?

If Police said there was no Hit & Run,
it seems the car was not damaged in the park that day,

but PREVIOUSLY, no?

It looks like a damaged car went to the park and Police was informed.

Was the accused's car damaged in an accident some time BEFORE that fateful Sunday?

"The usually quiet town of Ballarat is reeling after

a third woman died in suspicious circumstances
in just two months.

The Victorian town's name has an Aboriginal meaning of 'resting place',

but Ballarat has been anything but sleepy in recent weeks."

Alleged murder of 23-year-old Hannah McGuire reignites calls to prevent violence against women

Police said Ms McGuire and the accused man were known to each other. The nature of their relationship is not yet known.

Ms Kinnersly said 17 women had been murdered at the hands of partners and former partners this year.

"We know women will never be safe while they are not respected or equal," she said.

Ms Kinnersly said there was extensive work to change societal culture at many levels including sporting clubs, schools, workplaces, and government, but individuals needed to take responsibility as well.

There might never have been a damaged car

possibly to take the scent off the accused in the Investigation

So he wasn't getting nervous under surveillance

The listing on the Magistrate Court of Victoria website for Patrick Stephenson's upcoming Magistrates Court appearance on August 8th lists the prosecuting agency as 'Victoria Police - Highway Patrol-Ballarat'.

The case number is Q10524645 - click on hotlink below for additional info.

I didn't expect to see Highway Patrol listed against a murder. Could this appearance be for a traffic offence?

The police have never said that they believe there was a damaged car involved. They mentioned a damaged car as a general example of the sort of information they wanted people to report to them. The other examples they used were damaged property or people acting suspicious.

And hypothetically if the accused pleads “not guilty” and there is no body… what then? Would it still be possible to convict for alleged murder… with no body?
Chris Dawson

He (Judge) was satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that Lynette Dawson died "as a result of a conscious and voluntary act" by Chris Dawson. On December 2, 2022, Dawson was sentenced to 24 years in jail, with a non-parole period of 18 years, for the murder of Lynette.

Hi WS's - I have a friend who wants to register, but we can't work out how to register as a new member! Does anyone have any tips? Thanks!

Thinking along these lines… I worked with a software company a few years ago who developed software to help large machinery operators and their equipment be hired out. The software also had tracking abilities so you could see where your staff were at any time - (this helps to advise customers how far away the tradesperson is from the customers home/premises) there’s a lot of similar software on the market. Servicem8 is another example.

ServiceM8 | Smart Job Management

It’s possible his Dad used similar software in his business and possibly had this set up in the accused’s Ute. What if he was able to track his sons movements through the software, put two and two together…

Very interesting and a good idea!

Thanks for the link!

It can be that "damaged car" was asked for to be paid attention to
before Police decided it was not "Hit & Run".
