"FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) - The man accused of shooting seven Florence law enforcement officers, killing one, attempted to acquire a public defender Tuesday morning.
Judge Thomas A. Russo heard the request from accused murderer Frederick T. Hopkins, Jr., 74, who is charged with the murder of Sgt. Terrence Carraway and six counts of attempted murder related to the shootings of three other officers, a Florence County deputy and two Florence County investigators...."

"Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott held a news conference Tuesday afternoon to discuss progress being made in the investigation into the shooting of seven officers that left one deceased.
On Oct. 3, Florence County Sheriff's Deputies went to the home of 28-year-old Seth David Hopkins on Hoffmeyer Road to interview him related to a child sex case. His adopted father, 74-year-old Frederick Hopkins Jr., is accused of opening fire, shooting and injuring six law enforcement officers and killing Florence Police Sgt. Terrence Carraway....
Three Florence County deputies remain hospitalized, two of which are said to still be in critical condition. The City of Florence Police officer who was injured has been transferred to a medical facility in Georgia...."
