SC SC - John, 47, & Elizabeth Calvert, 45, Hilton Head, 3 March 2008

Could be the person responsible used a resident's name to gain entrance and left the car there or it could be a resident. This is a big place...years ago I visited someone there and that is all I had to do is mention the name of the person I was visiting. They don't check ID's if I remember correctly.

Thanks.

No ID check? What is the point of having a guard? :waitasec:

Really!!! I guess it prevents people from riding through with no business being there. Hilton Head is an odd place. Very wealthy in most aspects but very casual and laid back for the most part. I don't remember any seriously security oriented things but it has been years.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — A car belonging to a missing couple was found a few miles from the gated yacht community where they live part time, but yielded no clues about their whereabouts, authorities said.

John and Elizabeth Calvert were last seen Monday. Co-workers began to worry about the typically punctual couple when they missed business meetings the next day.

Police found the Calverts' silver 2006 Mercedes on Friday at a resort a few miles from the Harbour Town Yacht Basin, but there was nothing in the car to explain the couple's disappearance, Beaufort County Sheriff's Lt. Col. Neil Baxley said.

A week has passed since John and Elizabeth Calvert were last seen leaving a business meeting near their live-in yacht in Harbour Town.
Since then, the clues to their fate have been few in what has become a frustrating case for detectives.
The prominent couple's cell phones have been turned off since last Monday. Their yacht, the "Yellow Jacket," still is moored to its slip. On it, their cat, T.C., was left unattended.

This was on Greta (or maybe Nancy Grace) last night. A friend/business partner was on talking about the couple and the situation. Did anyone else watch this? I did not get good vibes from him at all. I sure hope LE and FBI are looking at him as well.

Rut Roh! Was this the guy on Greta last night that said he helped manage some of there businesses? Or is this a diff guy. So Sad

The man named as a person of interest in the disappearance of a Hilton Head Island couple appears to have committed suicide, authorities said Tuesday.
The body of Dennis Ray Gerwing was found by his lawyer around 4 p.m. in the bathroom of a resort condominium unit his company manages, according to a news release from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
Gerwing left behind two notes that are being examined by state agents, said deputies, who refused to release the contents of the notes. (more at link)

According to the Nancy Grace show, the POI is dead...
A former business associate of a missing couple who live part-time on Hilton Head Island has apparently committed suicide tonight and left two notes http://www.islandpacket.com/breaking_news/story/250345.html

I found this quote from your link very interesting.

Even though the last man to have seen the Calverts is now dead, authorities say they believe others in the community might have more information on the wealthy couple’s fate.

This was at Greta's gretawire by Caligirl, so I'm guessing the guy GVS interviewed was this POI that killed himself. I got goosebumps listening to him, but couldn't figure out why. He sure had a lot of adrenaline going. I wish I would have remembered his name!

Don't know if this is "our" Caligirl, but here's the comment:
Thanks for the update, Greta. This guy seemed fine when you interviewed him yesterday.Wonder what is in the 2 notes & if the police can search the rest of his condo? I fear this couple is dead; very tragic for their families.

They must either be thrown overboard or in some storage unit somewhere. It would be really neat if they were indeed still alive somewhere in one of those properties, but I doubt it.

It will probably boil down to money/greed/illegal activities w/Gerwing being the dirty one.

I hope he was at least man enough to put their location in one of his suicide notes.

Me too, SuziQ. (Hey, I'm a poet!) (and need sleep!) I wondered why there were two notes. Maybe one was for his family. I never heard if he was married or had children etc.
