Serenity Dennard: Cops still following leads 10 months after girl vanishes from children’s home
[…]

Late last month, Pennington County Sheriff Kevin Thom told People magazine that they are “persistent” in following leads on a weekly basis.

[…]

Dennard had reportedly threatened to run away from the children’s home before her disappearance. She previously attempted to run away from the home but was caught, according to the news outlet.

[…]

"It’s important to find Serenity and we’ve made it a priority, and as long as we have information to follow we’ll continue to follow up on the information,” Thom told People.

Anyone with information regarding Serenity Dennard’s whereabouts is urged to call the Pennington Sheriff’s Office at 605-394-6115.

You know, so very many searchers have returned time after time, these people and those with their dogs are absolutely GOLDEN. They've never stopped. The terrain has never been easy. task is a sad one yet they persevere. I am humbled by their dedication. I honor their efforts.
We need a 'Love' button for your post!

Does anyone get the mental image of a child sulking and stomping off? Anyway, this lady seemed to start out with her heart in the right place. Eventually, in my opinion, the drama overshadowed this poor child’s story.
I don't think she is stomping off. From what I can tell, she intends to keep at it in this case, trying to get the word out.
Yes, there has been a lot of drama. Some of it is rather curious, some of it is simply distracting.

I just got up to speed on this case, and I am SMH. I am having to sit on my hands on this one. Grrrr.

As someone upthread said, finding someone outdoors is extremely difficult. I am holding on to the magical thinking that someone she knew took pity on her situation, and took her in unbeknownst to LE.

Given her apparent love for the movie Frozen, it would be a cruel and ironic twist that this became her fate. Grrr...sitting on hands before I type what I’d like to say.

amateur opinion and speculation
Again, I'll say, into thin air?
If not foul play before she got away, then surely she got into a car with someone she knew, or she was picked up by a stranger... Ted Bundy "got lucky" like that a few times...

If it was self-harm, intentional or not, surely her little body or traces of it would have already been discovered.
Will we ever, ever know the rest of this story?
It's been a lo-o-ong time since she disappeared with no trace, and a lot of search and rescue efforts were done. SMH.
This one's got me.

I can't remember if this home had CCTV cameras and what the coverage was. I wonder what the footage reveals, as opposed to eyewitness accounts. If there are actually Security cameras.

The cameras were non functional mainly because they were broken or nonexistent. In reality, it’s nearly impossible to get a camera to function in bitter cold. Plus, where Serenity was, the camera wouldn’t have captured her that far away.

I am actually more interested in the cameras located inside the facility.

What was Serenity's routine? How was her demeanor that day? What type of interaction did she have with the staff?

A better time line would be interesting to look at..

I don't disagree with anything that you are saying.

Those searchers have done an amazing job in all kinds of weather.

It's just odd to me, that they haven't found a trace of her. A piece of torn clothing, boot that fell off, something.

I just wonder if some sicko drove by, saw that she was alone, pulled over and maybe she said she wanted to go home, and they said they'd take her there. Then, she vanished without a trace.

We also don't know if anyone else was in the woods that day besides the two that was collecting wood.
bbm
Those two possibilities are the ones I cannot let go. I am not a SAR participant, but a good friend of mine is. I don't have the special knowledge of how "chancy" finds and rescues can be, but I do understand how near-impossible some of them can be.

Holes, crevices, deep thick vegetation, wells, mines, localized small fires, animal predation or plundering, falling trees or branches making good cover, streams leading to rivers, etc., etc. Spring thaw is months away, and then it is bones, hair, teeth, or itty-bitty shreds of clothing or jewelry.
My heart aches for her and her family. And holidays are already here or on the way.

This winter, so far, has been far milder than last year. FWIW.
Yes, thanks!
I kinda figured that -- it's a chilling 28 F here in NC (below avg for this day here) -- and in Rapid City, it's still 27 F. That's gotta be above average up there (I would assume) for a SD city this time of year.
It's still damm cold, IMO, and sleeping outside in that temp with a light 5 mph wind without a good coat and warm pants would be a slow sinking into oblivion, IMO. SMH.

Pennington County SO on Twitter
Rockerville Volunteer Fire Chief Gail Schmidt and Kathy with K9 Cerin from the Wolfpack Working Dogs were back out today searching for Serenity Dennard. It was a beautiful day before the wind barrelled in.
4:23 PM - 4 Jan 2020

Sadly they found nothing, they need to go back to the beginning to where it all began and I mean before she was put in the BCHS, they are obviously missing something.

I still don't see anything on the Sheriff's page (since Jan 4) but this article says there was a search today for Serenity. I hope it's true.

Update on the search for Serenity Dennard
The search for Serenity Dennard is one of the largest in South Dakota history. More than 66 agencies and 1,203 people have logged approximately 5,246 miles in the search for the missing girl. There have been 109 K9 teams and seven aircrafts used.

"We've been consistent from the beginning, you know, we've had two tracks-- one is the search track, where we're actually searching in the wood, and the other one is the investigative track and both those continue all the way through the end of this year and into the New Year now," said Kevin Thom, Pennington County Sheriff.

[...]

In November, there was a review of the investigative file. The idea was to see if investigators were missing anything major. They made a few simple recommendations.

[...]

In the past year, there have been 465 interviews and 224 leads in 36 states, plus four countries.

A Pennington County Victim's Specialist has worked with the families as a liaison and advocate, and describes a positive and transparent relationship with both families.
