ZM says he put measures in place in the prison system to ensure humane incarceration of offenders.

All of a sudden oscar looks interested ...because its about him

M: Besides nepotism and corruption, als had to ensure incarcerated ppl's complaints were dealt with...

A lot of his recent exp has been ensuring human rights of prisoners are kept to, and managing and leading. He's Naational Commissioner Correctional Services.

N: When dept heard about evidence given here by social worker, it volunteered to give evidence...you flew back overnight?

M: that's correct.

N: For purposes of your evidence, we've prepared a very short document to assist with evidence.

Heck, judge going on about doc numbers again.

Masipa's got exhibit numbers mixed up and Nel has to correct her.

Good morning/afternoon/evening.

Got Oscar Radio volume working today but I tried the other stuff suggested yesterday and it still didn't work. It's got to be some kind of script running on that page that's blocking the audio but I'm no computer expert so will just have to hope it doesn't go AWOL for the next couple of days.

M talks about the purpose of the service, which includes maintaining a safe society and the safety of prisoners. Goes on to speak about the white paper 2005, which was a departure from the old system.

N: Since you joined, there's been lots of development?

M: Absolutely.

Greetings websleuthers. In for another interesting day.

So Masipa will put Reeva's family through the wringer for another few weeks, even though it's highly likely she already knows the sentence. Being 'seen' to consider her decision is more important than putting these poor people out of their misery.

N: There has lots of development in that department?

ZM: Absolutely.

N: What are the powers of the National Commissioner?

ZM: He can detain any prisoner at any facility in the country.

N: So there will be facilities in the country that can deal with every individual and you have power to place them there?

M: That's correct.

N: Mentions health facilities, hospital section. Is it possible to keep a specific inmate at such a facility?

ZM: That's correct.

N: We have so called health facilities, hospital section?

M: Correct.

N: Is it poss to keep a prisoner there for his sentence?

M: Correct?

N: The commissioner has power to keep an inmate in single cell?

M: Correct.

This is a powerful witness and a big boost to Nels case
