Man accused of 2018 infant beating now charged with murder in 2012 baby death

A San Antonio man accused of seriously injuring an infant earlier this year has now been charged with capital murder in an unrelated 2012 case, Bexar County court records confirm.

Terrence Harper, 30, was indicted this week by a Bexar County grand jury and now faces a charge of capital murder of a child under 10.

The indictment comes months after San Antonio police investigators vowed to forward evidence from the 2012 case to the Bexar County District Attorney's Office.

In that incident, a 4-month-old boy died after being taken to the hospital with head injuries and bruising on his body. The indictment, which was released Friday night, said Harper struck the boy with an unknown object, shook him and threw him against a wall and floor.

The death was later ruled accidental and charges were never filed against Harper.

Harper was arrested in July in an unrelated case and charged with causing serious bodily injury to a child.

In that incident, Harper is accused of beating his 4-month-old son, leaving the infant with a brain bleed, bruising and a possible skull fracture, according to investigators.

According to an arrest affidavit, Harper texted his wife, who was out of town working, that their son "was having problems going to the bathroom, having a 'blow out' and being fussy."

Harper then sent his wife a video that showed the boy propped up on the couch, the affidavit said.

"She said the victim looked lifeless," the officer investigating the case said in the affidavit.

The toddler's mom immediately left Austin and took her son to a pediatrician's office, where he vomited and had a seizure, the affidavit said.

Yeah, the dog must have gotten ticked off that the baby was "having a blow out and being fussy." <--- sarcasm.

So if I have this straight he was a suspect in a 2012 case where a 5-month-old died in his care and now has been charged with capital murder for that baby's death.

And he's now also charged with injury to a child causing serious bodily injury for the 4-month-old. It seems to me that the 4-month-old's death could have been prevented if the DA had filed charges back in 2012. Without the details I can't lay blame but in any case it's sad and frustrating.
