From what I understand, she had had a broken arm (someone correct me if this is wrong!). The day he disappeared was her first day back at work.

*All statements are of my own opinion unless otherwise specified.*
So she returned to work on a Friday?

Since the subject of the blood found inside PaPaw's shop has been brought up several times this morning, I wanted to bring the following post by our VI forward:

"I saw the blood in the days after he went missing (I didn't know about it until Saturday and couldn't get there until Sunday). On Sunday, when I first saw it, it was dried. OVer the next couple of days, I can't remember what day because I didn't think it would matter... it was crystallizing. To me, that says that it was fresh on Friday and not from an old wound.

There are no drag marks or smears at all. The pool is made up of many gathered drops - not like he had been laying there or like it had dripped down his leg, more like it had fallen from a distance off his arm or ear or nose or something higher than his leg. The blood drops are like big splats (a little smaller than a quarter) - no direction or teardropping to them, straight down - all of them in the pool look that way and all of the ones on the way to the door do as well. The ones on the way to the door are more than 2 feet apart each, and stop completely about 3~ feet from the door. There are no drops on the concrete pad outside the shop, none on the deck surrounding the concrete pad, none in the dirt either.

I'm sure I'm not supposed to share all of that, but at this point, I don't care. Hopefully some of you are able to help given this information.

I hope someone can answer about testing whether the blood came from his nose or not, that would be interesting to know and at least might help eliminate something if it can't confirm it." (RBBM)

Just a few more posts by our VI on the subject of the blood:

"The blood on the dowel rod is confirmed to be Papaw's, but that's about all I know. I didn't actually see the rod."

"Perhaps the dowel rod, but I'm just guessing, I didn't actually see it. It was wooden, so I'd say unlikely to be a striking weapon. No blood on any doorknobs. No blood outside that I know of."

"The dowel could have been used for many things - a cheater bar to prop something open is my best guess, but I am NOT a car person, so don't quote me on that.

No evidence that he cut himself on something he was working on (no blood on any other tools, etc.).

I believe there were neighbors that were home and outside all day, but not his immediate neighbors.

I ask because my hubby's workshop has two double doors that swing 'out'. And, one of them never wants to stay open, so he props it open with a stick, like a dowel. That's what I keep thinking of when the dowel is mentioned.

Perhaps he injured himself, cut his hand, etc... Grabbed the dowel that was propping open the door to then leave and shut the doors.

"There is a man door and one car garage door on the opposite end of the shop. The dowel was not found near enough to the doors for the scenario you described."

If MC was carried away I agree it took multiple people. I IMO think that he went with someone he either trusted or was in fear of.

Our VI here says the blood on the dowel rod was tested. Was the drops of blood tested as well? Did LE spray Luminol in shop and house looking for nonvisible to the eye blood?

Everyone needs to reread the blood description very carefully. How odd is it for the blood to show no motion? To not be disturbed at all?

I wondered about that myself, which is why i also brought up the idea of it being planted. I can't figure out why it doesn't show which direction it was going in unless he kept stopping, but that doesn't make sense that he would stop, let one drop fall, take a step, stop, let one drop fall....

Well, I am just stumped as ever. But given the recent information on the filings I have thought more about Mr. Chambers willingly exiting his life. I wonder if his time as a first responder revealed ways to somehow take his own life without having to put his family through the pain of finding the body and/or final services. (I haven't even begun to theorize those ways.) I also wonder if Mr. Chambers could have somehow hinted his intent to his wife. (Of course, this theory opens up many more questions.) But I could also understand him not wanting his daughters to find out beforehand. His way was the best way. Which should sound bizarre for the outsiders - not his daughters. That is probably why I won't hang my hat just yet on Mr. Chambers choosing to move on. That's just the daughter in me.
My thoughts are still with his loved ones. There is a lot of hurt for this family right now.

Hi All,

That took way more time than it should have.

Websleuths is a fact-based forum. When you state something as fact, you must provide a link to an approved source (MSM, LE) to back it up, If you can't link it, you can't post it, The only exception to this rule is if you have applied and WS has verified you as a case insider. If you are not a VI, you need links.

If you see a post that does not abide by this or any other rule of this forum, please please please report the post by clicking the small red triangle found at the bottom of each post. Please do not quote or reply to the post in violation. That creates a lot of work for the moderators and as a result, often times the thread has to be closed for cleanup. None of us want that, so please alert on problematic posts right away.

A few other friendly reminders:

Please do not discuss PMs on discussion threads. This includes posts such as "your inbox is full" or "I sent you a PM." It's like whispering in someone's ear in front of a room full of people. It's rude and we don't allow it.

Whenever you post a photo, you must include a link to the source. Images posted with no links are removed.

Sleuthing family members who have not been named by LE as a POI or suspect is strictly against the rules. Please do not sleuth their personal FB pages and/or court cases that are unrelated to this case and post your findings here.

Please review the threads in The Rules Forum, as it is your responsibility to know and post in accordance with them.

Any questions should be directed to a moderator via PM.

I don't lean either way as to whether MC met with foul play or if he left (one way or another) voluntarily. Just thought I would share some info my neighbor, who lost her firefighter-husband to suicide, shared with me:

"Firefighters and EMTs are statistically more likely to die of self-inflicted injuries than in the line of duty, with 87 line of duty deaths and 108 suicides in 2014 verified by the Firefighter Behavioral Health Alliance."
https://www.firechief.com/2016/03/22/why-firefighters-take-their-own-lives/

"A survey of more than 4,000 first responders found that 6.6 percent had attempted suicide, which is more than 10 times the rate in the general population, according to a 2015 article published in the Journal of Emergency Medical Services."
https://www.usnews.com/news/best-st...g-first-responder-suicide-rates-spark-concern

"PTSD for firefighters is real. 27 years of deaths and babies dying in your hands is a memory that you will never get rid off. It haunted me daily until now."
http://www.tcpalm.com/story/news/lo...2016/10/16/indian-river-firefighter/92198338/

MC retired in 2008, but PTSD stays with firefighters, active duty or retired: "I was haunted by the calls where I was powerless, where all my training and knowledge were useless, where the patient still died in spite of my best effort. Those people visited me on my days off. They came to in my sleep. Only the situation changed." https://grievingbehindthebadgeblog.net/2015/08/03/firefighter-alcoholism-depression-casey/amp/

(The retired firefighter quoted here ^ wound up taking his own life.)

Especially jarring:

The family has said that MC would not, could not take his own life. But it happens. Suicide might or might not be the case here, but sometimes even those closest to the person don't know what haunts him or her.

That said, where could he be? Firefighter Nicole Mittendorff hanged herself 85+/- miles from her home. It took eight days to find her. Granted, she took her vehicle. http://wtop.com/fairfax-county/2016...-nicole-mittendorff-suicide-bullying/slide/1/

Maybe MC didn't count on being so tough to find.[emoji53]

I agree about the suicide. It also makes things difficult for the family left behind both emotionally and financially. It's more common than most people know for police officers also.

But how far could he go on foot with bad knees?

Does anyone know if you can publicly view a death certificate? If there is one?

It does not appear that you can, unless you are an immediate family member or obtain permission from one:

Birth and Death Records Frequently Asked Questions:

How do I get a copy of the record if I am not an immediate family member?

You may send in a written, notarized statement signed by an immediate family member. The statement must give permission to Vital Statistics Unit Department of State Health Services to release a certified copy of the certificate to you and must include a photocopy of the ID of the individual granting you the authorization. The statement must also identify you by your full name, and you must present a copy of your photo ID with the notarized statement.

Sadly, this is very true. Especially when you live in a small community; the chances are pretty good that they will know the victim. My husband is a psychologist and we live in a small town. Many times after an accident, he and a team are called in to help the first responders.

However, if a possibility (and I really don't believe it is), based on what we know about MC.....I would think if he was going to take his life he would leave some kind of note or letter to his dear loved ones, if for no reason than to reassure them that there was nothing they could have done, there were no clues that they missed such as to try and persuade him to get some mental health help prior to sinking to such a low and hopeless level. I would think as someone who was a firefighter and 1st responder, he would have no doubt attended suicide calls/scenes, known the victim or surviving loved ones and witnessed firsthand the guilt and torment over realizing their loved one was so low and feeling so completely hopeless/helpless and had they only known maybe they could have intervened sooner. Only from what I've read about MC, he was a very loving family man, very organized, very methodical. I could be totally wrong becuz who of us can ever really know?....but his personality just doesn't strike me as someone who would take his own life and do so in such a way that his family would never have closure, would never find him, would never know what happened to him. JMO

QUESTION: maybe I've missed something....but I've seen a few people pose the question of whether MC really did return home after his trip to Walmart, some wondering if maybe he did not.....but how could the latter be possible if the items he purchased at Walmart that last day were found in the home along with the receipt for them in the trash there in the home? Are some therefore wondering if "someone else" intercepted him between Walmart and home and then it was them who took the items and receipt to his home to give the appearance that he had in fact returned home?
