TX TX - San Antonio, WhtFem 18-26, 70UFTX, floral blouse & red shorts, "Cantu" written on cuff, Nov'90

I can't find any female UID's listed in NamUs or DoeNet for Frio County

After looking at this it appears Lupita Cantu was id'd as a different Jane Doe than the one for which this thread was started.

This Jane Doe was found wearing Red Shorts.
Lupita was last seen wearing Black Slacks. (Her Charley Project page has not yet been taken down.)

Also, this Jane Doe was found Nov 1, 1990. I don't know that a UID found in November, would be buried the same year. That seems an awfully short time to bury someone as a Jane Doe without giving the persons family more time to claim their loved one-or- for investigators to try and find the Janes family.

Sadly, the article about Lupita does not list the month and date she was found, just the year she was buried. :banghead:

This Jane doe is still listed as unidentified on both DoeNet and NamUs.

I added the doenet link to the OP and the NamUs link, last modified March 1, 2011; is here:

https://identifyus.org/cases/3939

It appears then we can rule out Lupita Cantu as a possible match for this ID.

I suppose we can watch the NamUs and DoeNet links, to see if they are updated as our Jane found 11-1-1990 is updated to id'd. but based on the info we have it does not appear Lupita is the Jane found with the red shorts with Cantu listed in the shorts.

Thanks, I think I added the post to the wrong UID, following all the posts on Lupita...

No worries, this helps to let us know Lupita was ruled out as this Jane, or to watch the DoeNetwork and NamUs links for this Jane found 11-1-1990 to see if they are soon updated as id'd.

This one was so obvious that I had to call TXDPS to make sure that they had looked at her. Her height is within an inch of the low end of the UID's height range. She went missing in April 1990, seven months before the UID was found. Both she and the UID were from San Antonio TX, and her surname is "Cantu" to match the inscription on the UID's shorts.

Lupita Cantu

I spoke with analyst Melanie Schramm. She first looked in the UID's casefile and didn't see any mention of Lupita Cantu, but then she looked in Lupita's MP casefile and saw a notation that local LE looked into Lupita already and ruled her out. There was no indication of the basis for the rule-out.

BTW, TXDPS lists Lupita Cantu's DOB as February 9, 1949. DoeNet lists her DOB as February 9, 1942, and Charley doesn't list her DOB.

Whoops, I read this after my previous posts.

BBM. From this post, it also confirms Lupita Cantu was ruled out as the UID for which this thread was started.

I am confused on this case..... Cantu was reported missing on April 26, 1990 at the age of 41. She was buried that same year as a Jane Doe in Frio County. DNA has apparently confirmed the ID.

"Cantu had been married for 20 years when she disappeared. She is survived by four children. The family has yet to comment."

Can someone clarify the differences in the UID and Cantu???

I think she's ruled out as the IUD for this thread.

Missing body impedes probe
Investigators believe Lupita Cantu was interred, but where?

The mysterious disappearance of Lupita Cantu was supposed to be over — with a long-suspected tragedy confirmed, her body recovered at long last.

Instead, the uncertainty has only deepened. Cantu's remains have been identified. But in an irony decades in the making, she still can't be found.
---
[Authorities] can't locate the pauper's grave in the Pearsall cemetery where the then-unidentified woman was supposed to be buried — or even confirm that she was interred.
---
Using technology not in use in 1990, [the Texas] Rangers had matched a DNA sample from Guzman with a single strand of hair from the body found dumped on a rural Frio County road about a month after Cantu disappeared.

This will come out of left field but the drawing to my mind is of someone of maori descent - the peoples who first inhabited New Zealand. To me it is really strking. I wonder if that could be possible?

I wish there was a list of New Zealanders who have gone missing overseas so the sketch could be compared to the list. I appreciate that the UID is almost certainly to be Hispanic due to the location, but this UID really looks like she of Maori descent ( when you add the colourised versions of the sketches) to me in my opinion.

Angelica Gandara has not been posted. Angelica would have been 16 years old in 1990. Charley project states that Angelica may have been seen in San Antonio, Texas but this is not confirmed and no date is given.
http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/g/gandara_angelica.html

According to reports, at the time of her disappearance, someone saw her with a man and a woman in a blue and white pickup truck that had a red and white hood.

Here is a side by side comparison: (Angelica was 11 years old when she disappeared on July 14, 1985.)

I found this article which has some more information about the Lupita Cantu connection. https://crimelabproject.wordpress.com/2013/04/19/10-facts10-days-lupita-cantu/ There's no question it's not this UID:

"Thirteen days after Lupita Cantu disappeared [on April 26, so body found May 9 or 10. The UID in this thread was killed the following November --CB], her body was found by a Texas Ranger. It was discovered at the side of a rural road in nearby Frio County. Unfortunately, although there was a lot of attention being given to Lupita’s case in San Antonio, no connection was made between this “Jane Doe” homicide victim and Lupita Cantu. Even after the remains were sent to San Antonio’s Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy."

Also, the ruleouts for https://identifyus.org/cases/3939

Exclusions
The following people have been ruled out as being this decedent:

First Name Last Name Year of Birth State LKA

Hazel Klug 1962 Virginia
Deborah McCall 1963 Illinois
Kathleen Meyers 1962 Delaware
Patricia Schmidt 1964 Virginia
Tiffany Sessions 1968 Florida

Lupita Cantu went to my church. She was very active with her kids. When she disappeared it was all over the news. I'm sure her dental records were on file. A few weeks later, a body is found about 50 miles away. The body was taken to San Antonio for autopsy. It seems there was no attempt to connect the UID with Lupita Cantu. Go figure. 20 years later, after the DNA match, they can't figure out where Lupita was buried. (Her body must have gotten mixed up with another body) Go figure. .....I'm sure this is totally confusing.

As for the UID in this thread, she is probably Hispanic. Sounds like she had a previous ectopic pregnancy. (NAMUS - Right Salpingo-Oophorectomy)

As for the address listed where her body was located - it is an industrial park located close to several truck stops - right next to Interstate 10-410 Interchange. (eastern edge of the city)

Unfortunately, there just doesn't seem to be much information about this UID. They don't even list a cause of death, yet her body was discovered probably within 24 hours of death.

I was in Henderson Nevada earlier this week visiting the office of Canyouidentifyme.org. Their forensic art instructor was showing me the book Forensic Art and Illustration by Karen Taylor. There were several PM photos in the book, one of which was for this jane doe. Her cause of death is not mentioned anywhere, but she had an apparent blunt force injury to her left side of her eye and cheekbone

So I was able to do a reconstruction for this Jane Doe. She looks a bit more Hispanic than is depicted in the official recon, though she is probably Caucasian/Hispanic mixed. She looked more like this:

Yes I noticed on namus that it stated she had very traumatic injuries to her face. So I'd say it probably was blunt force trauma.

That address is very busy now being at the 410 and I 10 exchange however I do not know how it was back in 1990.

We did live here at that time but I was only a small child.
