This is really difficult to hear for us so cannot imagine how her family are feeling listening to this.

I understand the defence have a job to do and we see this time and time again where the victims actions are used against them but it sounds so harsh.

I dont buy that she was suicidal at all. Drunk and upset yes but she went and sat in a bus stop on a well lit road with people around she should have been safe there. She appeared to be heading home when intercepted by PR and the only reason she ended up at Oak Road is because he took her there.

Feel very sad that her mental health struggles are being used against her. He isnt defending his client he is tarnishing the victim.

This would not sit well with me if I was on the jury.

Hi all. Sending strength and love to Libby’s family, boyfriend and friends. I am a long time reader on this site but have read every single message on all 23 threads on this case; I joined solely to find justice for Libby, as so many other people have. I am writing now as reading the defence is disgusting. I have two toddler girls and the heartbreakingly tragic night for Libby struck such a chord with me whilst trying to nurture and protect my girls in their early years. Libby was clearly a very strong, brave and caring young lady. Her mother sounds just wonderful.

I have been so moved by the comments and care of the people following Libby’s case on here, it’s just so dreadfully sad that the world just takes innocent, lovely people from their families by the hands of sick individuals who believe their entitlement to do what they want overrides the safety and happiness of someone else, overrides someone else’s life. It’s hard not to write without great emotion. PR is an extremely dangerous, calculated, manipulative, controlling, compulsive lying individual and I find him guilty on both counts. MOO

Total barrel scraping in victim blaming whilst minimising the theft of knickers (some of which were found with his semen AND saliva on them) for sexual gratification as “rifling through underwear”

No one else called the police that night, defence says

Mr Saxby said: “The prosecution say 40 minutes later she could not have gone in the wrong direction on Oak Road that was less well lit.

“Next is when Roland Jacobs stopped - 25 minutes before the critical period. His evidence was that she asked him to lay with her and asked her for a hug. She said her friends had her phone and they had left her and her attitude changed and she started swearing.

“Finally, Matthew Handisides on foot, on Beverley Road, around five minutes past midnight, minutes before Libby Squire got into Pawel Relowicz’s car. What did he say? ‘There was a girl going towards the car at the end of the road with headlights. I’d say she was angry.’

“She was drunk, irate, loud and mood changeable. One other thing.: in cross-examination Mr Relowicz was asked why he didn’t call the police when he saw her. Agreed fact 53 is that no member of the public made a report to police at the time they saw her. That’s not the taxi driver, or the occupants on Wellesley Avenue, nor Beth Green or Roland Jacobs - called ‘one of the good men’ - nor Matthew Handisides, nor any of the many, many people that drove past, nor anybody seen walking past and there were plenty of them.

“By all means, judge Pawel Relowicz but please do by all standards - no one else did what the prosecution say he should have done and placed before you they say should establish guilt.”

Defence casts doubt over Libby getting into Relowicz's car

Mr Saxby said: “The prosecution can’t say he saw her - he wasn’t anywhere near her when she was walking down Beverley Road. They say he waited in the shadows of Beresford Avenue, you can see he goes right into Beresford Avenue and then he intercepts her, the prosecution say his plan to abduct, rape and kill her.

“The prosecution said about CCTV: ‘What we see is movement lasting several seconds, toing and froing between them.’ Whether she was forced or persuaded into the vehicle may never be clear from that CCTV footage. During cross-examination their stance changed to force.

“I don’t know what you found but it is the sort of footage, the more you look at it the more you think you see and you realise you start seeing things that aren’t there, shadows, limbs and so on. You’re desperate to find something from it. Echoing what I think will be said to you in due course, beware of over-analysing this footage. This is not me saying do not look at it, it is me saying proceed please with caution.

“Cars and people aplenty going up and down Beverley Road. How many times the car lights flashed? You have an agreed fact on the lights flashing and the locking mechanism. Unlock is two flashes. What you see is uncertain with what he has said. She gets into the car - you can see her leg on the CCTV, she isn’t being forced in, she puts her seatbelt on. It was suggested he made it harder for her to get out but if that was the case he would have gone around and locked the door. It was suggested he knew where he was going to take her from the start. He said she directed him to Beresford Avenue but there was nothing more said and he went down to Oak Road to turn around.”

I do not recall the defense calling any experts to discuss mental illness similar to Libby’s. Seems to me if they were certain her mental illness caused her to throw herself in the river they would have tried to show with expert testimony it was possible. I understand they have to do their very best to defend PR and we want them to so he cannot claim negligent defense, I just hope their whole defense is not PR is a liar and Libby was suicidal. MOO

Defence points to 'no erratic driving' that might have suggested Libby wanting to get out of the car

Mr Saxby said there was “no erratic driving” that would suggest her grabbing the wheel or trying to get out of the car.

He added: “If you look at the map you can see where the red line ends on Oak Road that implies he went and parked quite a long way down. When he gave evidence, you will remember he said he ended up parking near the dark green metal shed.”

Mr Saxby has invited the jury to look at the storyboard which shows Relowicz arriving at Oak Road on a camera one and two, but he was only picked up on camera one on the way back out, which Mr Saxby says is evident of how far down Oak Road Relowicz drove."

Wow. Am I reading this right.

PR is innocent. Firstly blame Libby for being there. Then perhaps blame the others who came across her. How the hell must that make them feel.

Remind me now - all those men with the same opportunities as PR chose not to take her to a dark park and rape her!

I thought that meant defending the defendant not blaming everyone else!

Struggling to read the updates today; they're making my blood boil.

Innocent until proven guilty, fair trial, fine. But the defence are literally just dragging Libby's name and image through the mud to try to protect a convicted predator.

Absolutely appalled. I know it's their job and PR must be a nightmare client to have to try to defend but it's still disgusting.

So basically the defence are saying this was anyone's fault except PRs? Libby's fault, her friends fault, the people who stopped but didn't call police. Everyone seems to be getting the blame except for the sex criminal on trial JMO

you can see her leg on the CCTV, she isn’t being forced in, she puts her seatbelt on.
Snipped for focus.
Even PR stated he put her seatbelt on. Has the defense forgotten this or is it said intentionally to make Libby look more willing.

They have to be. Victim blaming at it's finest. JMO
He's got to say all this stuff. If he doesn't it'll be part of grounds for appeal (assuming he's convicted). PR won't struggle to find solicitors willing to assist him

Yes he did. He said he put her seatbelt why hasn't that been disallowed?
