FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Law enforcement in Wisconsin has released new composite sketches of an unidentified woman found murdered in a Fond du Lac County creek nearly ten years ago in hopes someone will recognize her.

'Jane Doe,' as Fond du Lac County deputies have named her, was discovered by deer hunters in a shallow creek back in November 2008. An initial investigation revealed she was murdered.

This week, with the help of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, authorities released the new sketches of what the woman looked like. She's described as Caucasian, 5'1'', 120 pounds and between the ages of 15 and 21.

Police are hoping someone across the Midwest, or even the country, will be able to recognize the woman depicted in the sketches.
Investigators are also planning to exhume Jane Doe's body later this week for additional forensic testing of her remains.

"We're hoping to get some historical data of either where she grew up or may have traveled to and resided throughout the United States because we're not sure if she's from Wisconsin," said Fond du Lac County Detective Pete Vergos, lead investigator on the case.

Anyone who recognizes 'Jane Doe,' or may have any information on her murder, is encouraged to contact the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office at 920-906-4777.

they haven't shown her teeth in these recons. was she murdered and had her teeth knocked out? also, sounds like "add'tl tests" may be isotopes. that would be helpful.

never mind, I saw Carl's recon again and he showed her teeth. I wonder why no one else shows them.

[h=1]Second chance for Fond du Lac County's Jane Doe, body exhumed for new testing[/h]
WAUPUN - “Jane Doe’s” body was removed Thursday from her final resting place among weathered tombstones and sprawling shade trees at Cattaraugus Cemetery near Waupun.

Before digging began, Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Chaplain Mike Hackbarth said a prayer over her grave, the ground freshly thawed after late season snowfalls.

"I'm trying to do my best, to give dignity to this young lady," Hackbarth said. "And even though God knows who she is, I pray they are successful in discovering her identity so we can find her family."
Once the burial vault was opened, men with shovels descended into the grave to loosen dirt and carefully removed the casket, draped in plastic, Jane Doe's fragile remains were loaded onto a gurney for transport to the Fond du Lac County Medical Examiner's Office, where experts will look for clues with fresh eyes and new technology, using isotope analysis.

A forensic anthropologist who initially examined the deceased back in 2008 said she was most likely knock-kneed, pigeon-toed or both, and would have had a distinctive walk that may help identify her. A forensic entomologist said the body began to decompose sometime between midsummer and Labor Day of 2008.
Fink said the cause of death points to murder. The body was found in a wooded area that was a known "dumping" site, and there were no nearby residences. She wore no shoes or socks when she was found.

Hoping that her being being exhumed also means DDP....

FOND DU LAC COUNTY, Wis. (WLUK) -- Three days ago, the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office exhumed the remains of a female only known as Jane Doe.

FOX 11 talked to the forensic anthropologist assigned to the case this past Friday. Leslie Eisenberg told us Jane Doe's remains will undergo what's called a stable isotope analysis.

Eisenberg explained stable isotopes as being all around us. You can't see them but they're found in water, soil and the food we eat.
"That all gets accumulated in our bones, in our hair, in our teeth as the dental enamel is forming. And so different regions have different isotope signatures," she said.
That information could help investigators understand where Jane Doe grew up. Investigators are hoping once they know that information, they can share her photos in that part of the country and maybe someone will recognizer her.

But FOX 11 also wanted to know if it's possible for investigators to do what Northern California officials did to catch an alleged serial killer. Joseph DeAngelo was caught when investigators used a website called GEDmatch.
Could the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office upload Jane Doe's genetic profile to a geneology site and use the information to identify her?Alan Friedman, a forensic DNA expert out of Milwaukee, says identifying Jane Doe via a genealogy website is possible but it depends on the condition of her DNA.
"You can think of DNA as being long strands of pearls or beads on a string and if DNA is exposed to bacterial decomposition, just like the rest of the body decomposes, the DNA actually gets broken into smaller and smaller DNA fragments over time and it becomes difficult to analyze that DNA," Friedman said.

Jane Doe's DNA and dental records are on file and officials say her information has been checked in numerous databases including missing persons.

Legal issues aside, Friedman says a genealogy company would need to use its own technology to compare Jane Doe's DNA to the company's database and link her to possible relatives.

"Because the information that is collected, for instance collected by a government crime lab... the locations of the DNA won't necessary be the same as that which is examined by a private company," Friedman said.

Investigators Feeling Hopeful in Renewed Jane Doe Case

Fond du Lac County investigators are continuing to hunt for clues in the decade-old case of Jane Doe. The body of the unidentified girl was exhumed last month and sent to Utah for isotope and genealogical testing, which Lieutenant Cameron McGee says the testing shows “where you live, where you reside, there are certain isotopes that would be specific to the Fond du Lac area. So everything you eat, everything you drink would be specific to geographically being in Fond du Lac. Because this is where we live. We eat the products around here, the water we drink is specific to this area.

Either people interviewed didn't know about DNA Doe Project or for some reason the quote was left out. I'll try to ask Carl if he's touched base with her LE about DDP. He's been speaking to a few so I'm not sure who he's already hit up.

I’ve been thinking. You know how NAmUS exclusions can not be seen on professional profiles, what if a few people here like carlk could get that professional status and check our matches for us?

Some quotes:
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - In November 2008, a woman was found murdered in a rural Wisconsin town and now investigators say new forensic evidence ties her to Albuquerque.

"They believe the person that they have back in Wisconsin, the unidentified person, has ties to the Albuquerque area," said Officer Simon Drobik with the Albuquerque Police Department.

A young woman, estimated to be aged 15-21, was found in a shallow creek in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin in November 2008. Investigators say it was obvious she had been dead for months.

It appears investigators struck gold when they dug up Jane Doe's grave, finding new, still confidential, evidence placing Jane Doe in the Albuquerque area in the summer of 2008.

"Well in 2008 we had a pretty major event here so there are possible ties to that event," said Drobik.
Drobik is talking about when investigators began to discover the bodies of 11 women and an unborn baby out on the West Mesa near 118th Street and Dennis Chavez. Drobik also says there are similarities between this Jane Doe and the West Mesa murder victims.

Since they said they were going to run isotopes and do DNA genealogy I wonder if the results of those tests connected her to New Mexico? Perhaps isotopes and family connections in her cousin matches? What if Fond du Lac Jane Doe is someone the West Mesa SK knew personally? Maybe she had knowledge of his actions and that is why she was killed. Or perhaps she moved to WI to try to escape an abusive ex or stalker? Maybe he followed her and killed her in the same manner as the NM cases. Could there be something else she has in common with the West Mesa victims that LE is keeping to themselves? She could be the key to catching the West Mesa SK. I hope they figure out who she is and all it identifies her killer at the same time. Identifying her could lead to catching a SK. JMO.

They are now backtracking on this because the suspect in the West Mesa murders died two years prior to Jane Doe.

The following is from wfrv.com:

In a phone call with KRQE, Local 5 learned police in New Mexico are backtracking after initially connecting Jane Doe to the West Mesa murders.

According to a KRQE report, investigators were looking into Jane Doe as part of their investigation through lifestyle, or prostitution, elements.

However, Albuquerque Police now say the suspect in the West Mesa murder investigation died two years before Jane Doe’s approximate time of death.

As a result, police have concluded these two incidents are not related.
