I found it odd he told her I'll be gone 5-6 hours. Did he want her to get out? Did he want to get caught? Was he done with this? I wonder how long he was gone before she got out?

Possibly a test.

Also, about his restraint system. She's 13. It's a big, unknown space. He's violent.

He says he's leaving. It's quiet. Do you know for sure he's gone? Maybe he's already played that game already?

It's a twin bed? She's a small 13 year old. It could take a lot of effort to move heavy weights with limited mass, space, strength, etc.

Really, I can't express how much I admire Jayme for having the courage to escape from that ordeal. So brave.

Sometimes I wonder if some of these perps want to get caught. Or to release their captives.

Jaycee Dugard's captor brought her to Berkeley University and then, IIRC, brought her back in for an interview with campus police.

Abby Hernandez's captor just released her by her house.

These crimes are their personal claim to fame, IMVHO. And face it, there are people who admire them for their crimes.

I could never even begin to imagine...

Given he was so violent in kidnapping her maybe he thought that was enough but because of what he did to get her, I would of thought he would have made her more secure.. No logic in any of these crimes, that I must remember

One possibility is that he enjoyed the power of knowing he could control her without chains.

He was a useless, worthless, powerless defect of a human who might have felt important for the first time in his miserable life.

That Jayme is one brave girl! She left after knowing how violent he might get if he found her! How scary!
Of course she also left without knowing what an unpopulated little place this was. She left knowing nothing except she knew there was an opportunity to escape. You go girl!
After having gone thru what she had she probably didn't care. Live or die, I'm getting the hell out of here. Her fate was then on her terms.

If he told her to hang up the phone-wouldn't that be on the 911 call? I watched the LE interview the other night and they said there was just a lot of noise on the 911 call. No voices, just sounds of a struggle. Is that possible? Were they instructed using hand motions only, or had the phone already been hung up when he told them to do it? Do police cars have cameras that record? Could they have reviewed footage? I know private citizens who have recording devices that are constantly on in their cars-they are on a loop and it records over the footage if you don't save it in a period of time. Are there any cameras in the town that they could have pulled footage from-like they did with Mollie Tibbetts?

They called Eau Claire to help clean up the call that night -- it's in the call log. I'm sure the FBI tried, too. I also imagine they canvassed for every possible camera around. I still think that's why they went to the casino, 24/7 security and they could access footage immediately.

Documents reveal horrific new details in Jayme Closs kidnapping
Patterson went to the Closs home in an attempt to abduct the teen twice before successfully doing so, according to charging documents. Those first two kidnapping attempts were unsuccessful as too many people were around.

On Patterson's third attempt, investigators say he blew the door to the Closs home open with a shotgun. Jayme told investigators she had been asleep in her room when her dog started barking and she and her mother, Denise, saw a masked man dressed in black and armed with a gun approaching the door. Jayme and her mom hid in the bath tub, while the teen's father, James, went to see who was at the door, according to the criminal complaint. They heard a gunshot and knew James had been killed.

Investigators said early on in the search for Jayme that they had received a 911 call from an unknown person at around 1 a.m. That call was placed by Denise Closs, according to the complaint, before Patterson broke down the door, ordered Denise to drop her cell phone and put tape over her daughter's mouth. Patterson then shot her in front of her daughter, according to charging documents.

Unfathomable details in the Jayme Closs case. 13-yo girl told police she watched her mother be shot in head as they hid in bathroom. Suspect then taped her, put in trunk. Then made her hide under his bed for 3 months when people came to his house, until she escaped last Thursday.
No way I ever imagined this. I have no words. I was hoping upon hope she didn't witness this. Of course her mom had her with her. Protecting her to the end. Such disgustingly pointless and sad deaths. Poor poor Jayme.

I think there are people admiring this guy. Blech. But if he committed the "perfect" crime and didn't get caught, who would ever know? I kind of wonder if getting caught is acceptable because it does bring admiration. He seems to be sharing info rather easily and quickly.

Kidnapping suspect discharged early from US Marines
A Wisconsin man suspected of abducting 13-year-old Jayme Closs washed out of the U.S. Marine Corps after little more than a month.

Jake Thomas Patterson wrote in his high school yearbook that he planned to join the Marines after graduation. But military records show he lasted for only about five weeks before being prematurely discharged in October 2015 at the rank of private.

Marine spokeswoman Yvonne Carlock said by email that Patterson's early discharge indicated "the character of his service was incongruent with Marine Corps' expectations and standards."

Ha! You’re definitely right about something like this, being their “claim to fame”.

This guy was a nobody, a completely irrelevant waste of oxygen.

He committed a crime that left everyone baffled, and I’m sure he enjoyed that.

Fortunately, years from now, people will remember Jayme Closs, her bravery and what she experienced.

We will remember how she helped bring down a brutal murderer and kidnapper.

We’ll have to Google his name though, as we will forget it.

That’s the way it should be.

I've been lurking these threads for a while waiting for news. I'm from the UK so know nothing about the us court system. What is a probable cause statement please?

Pursuant to our due process rights per the US Constitution, there is a process that must occur in order for someone to be held over for trial when charged with a crime. Part of that process is that the state must establish that there exists evidence to show that it is reasonable to charge the defendant and it is probable that the crimes charged were actually committed.

To satisfy that requirement the state issues a written statement as to the evidence which establishes probable cause.
