I’m hopefully going to talk with the sheriff’s department, as I’m staying nearby for winter break. Is there anything you guys would want me to bring up? I’m planning on asking about DNA, getting reconstructions made, more news coverage and DNA Doe Project / Parabon involvement.

Maybe isotope, so we can narrow down where we could focus our energy?

Andrew Veiter is not on rule out list, Thomas Jost isn't either. There is only one rule out Ernest Palmer DLC is 1/9/2019 really ? the body was found 1980.

Thank you houndpounder!!! Does anyone know why NamUs changed their website so that the general public cannot see the rule-out's anymore?

Hey! Could this be a playing card? Like from a casino??

of course I haven’t been able to find the exact one...

Another thing I noticed were the dates....
1880” seems to be when the first house was lighted by electricity.
1980” looks to be when the card was made?
“Our 89th Anniversary”, I’m assuming ‘our’ refers to IBEW? And that they weren’t a thing in 1880? Otherwise the 89th anniversary would have been 1969. Right? (I think I just answered my own question) But I do believe this could be a playing card...who knows where its 51 other friends are!

A couple of months ago I emailed the curator at the IBEW Historical Museum with a picture of this card and asking if he could help me identify it. Below is what he responded with:

"The card you attached was published in 1980, with a picture of Menlo Park on one side and a calendar on the other. There is no personal information on this card so it won’t help pinpoint who it belonged to. . . . Those calendar cards were dispersed to every Local Union in the country at the beginning of the year. Unfortunately I cannot narrow it down further than that."

So everyone who was in the IBEW in 1980 received this card. It has no identifying information and does not help to narrow down what region of the country it came from. At least we now know a calendar is on the other side. I was frustrated not knowing what might be on the other side of the card.

Awe shucks! Well you’re right, at least we don’t have to wonder what was on the other side...but it’s a shame that it doesn’t narrow down the location any. Hopefully there will be a clue in the garments. They certainly photographed and documented them well!

They upgraded the site. To see the comparisons it is as simple as registering your self with an email and password, it's as simple as that. One thing I do not like about the site is they do not state whether or not they have DNA/Dentals.

So, as I expected, there wasn't a lot the sheriff's office could share with me, since this is an active investigation (which was reopened after the new ME was hired). The officer did explain that they are moving forward with the investigation. I was informed that they are working on getting a sketch drawn for the decedent, which will hopefully be released in a few months.

I made sure I suggested isotope/pollen tests, Parabon/DDP involvement, and the importance of media coverage. There wasn't much the officer in question could comment on.

All of this occurred from a phone call I placed in early January with the Oneida County Sheriff's Office. I believe everything I've mentioned in this post is okay to share here, since anyone in the general public could have called the office.

I still find it bizarre how none of my friends, who lived in Rhinelander in 1980 remembers hearing about the case. Hopefully, if a sketch is made, media coverage could bring him back into the public eye (if he ever was in the first place).

Sorry for the delayed post!

I belonged to IBEW when I worked for the phone company. I didn't work there until 1990, however.
Ma Bell's technicians were IBEW, as were their central office technicians, coin phone collectors, directory assistance and long distance operators, and clerks who worked in those shops, to name a few. It wasn't just for electricians.
Also, 1980 would have been pre-divestiture, when AT&T was everywhere, coast to coast, as the premier (nearly sole) provider of phone service, phone equipment, long distance service (again, to name a few). So, they were everywhere.
Not saying this guy couldn't have been an electrician, but he could have also been a phone company employee.
He could have also been in WI for an organizing event as opposed to electrical work/job.

Upon further research, it looks like Rhinelander, WI had an independent phone company that doesn't appear to have been part of the original At&t footprint. I wasn't able to determine if the local phone company's employees were organized in 1980 or not.

I'm surprised a local number wasn't printed on the calendar. Even if it were celebrating the founding of the whole organization, usually everything I've received from the union was personalized with our local number on it.
Here's the sketch which appeared in the news broadcast, he's very distinctive:

Also from what I gathered from this news article was he should have dental and fingerprints, according to the extremely fast scrolling by newspaper clippings, they are mentioned in print.
He'd also been dead for about 2 months, and he carried a silver pocket watch type compass, Edge brand from Japan.
