It is a terrible choice of words, if they do not expect to find her alive.

IIRC the FBI wasn't involved from day one. I can't recall exactly when the FBI became involved.... so I don't think it is really a full three weeks they waited. I could be wrong though.....
"If someone out there has home security video with anything that looks suspicious, please call the West Virginia State Police at 304-269-0500," Killeen said.
Though he would offer no further comment, Killeen said law enforcement officials have narrowed the time line regarding the disappearance of Aliayah Lunsford.
"The focus is narrowing, and we are working to a favorable conclusion," he said.
He added that the case is still being considered a homicide, abduction or concealment. Killeen declined to discuss persons of interest or suspects, saying it could compromise the investigation.
Killeen said that as the investigation has narrowed, they also have determined there is no threat of danger to other children in the community
"I want to dispel rumors we are not working on this case," Killeen said. "At times, investigators are working 24 hours a day on this case."
Specifically, Killeen said the dozens of people working on the case include law enforcement and personnel at the various crime labs representing the agencies on the case. He likened this work to put together a 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle.
"We have many pieces together," he said. "We are pleased with our progress."

The FBI showed up on Monday afternoon, my wife was part of the first team operating for the FBI investigators. The announcement that the FBI took over the investigation was Wednesday.
In fairness, it's not the reporting. It's a quote by the FBI. I guess a conclusion to a case is considered favourable in their books whether the child is alive or dead. Case solved on to the next attitude.

Monday October 3rd and Wednesday October 5th? If so that was less than two weeks ago.
Just trying to sort out the dates. Thank you.
I agree. Every LEO I know IRL wants the cases solved and closed. They don't like open cases on the books, especially those that go cold for years and years. (there are not 9000 unsolved missing persons cases at Charley Project for nothing... and she only lists them at CP once they are six months old or older.)
IMO, if "favorable conclusion" meant an alive and well Aliayah, there would be far more press coverage with LE asking people to look for her, what to look for, a possible poi, etc. There have been zero reports of sightings that I'm aware of and no such requests from LE.

I have to disagree.. the full statement was "The focus is narrowing, and we are working to a favorable conclusion," he said. To me this means they are working towards an arrest, or justice for Aliayah.
They've already expressed that there is not alot of hope that she is still alive (see past articles) so this statement in the press was taken totally out of context as evidenced by your confusion.
The media in this case is and continues to be second rate at best...
Well if Aliayah has passed (and I believe she has) I would like to hear about an arrest and a body being found. These unresolved cases are so much worse.

It's LE speak....... it is what it is. They aren't necessarily trained as PR specialists and I'd rather they get to the business of solving cases and making arrests than always having to be that precise with their choice of words.
