What? We do not know that… only Brian knows what he meant. To say he did not mean the things he said is your opinion, and rightfully so, but it’s certainly not a fact to claim HIS words meaningless lines.
/JMO

Thanks.I am sorry about the absolutes. I tried to clear up what I was saying. His words could have been entirely truthful at the time and with those circumstances.

Commander Joe Fussel on the question of: "Why are you wasting your time in the Reserve if Brian could be long gone by now?" #BrianLaundrie #GabbyPetito
These videos drive me nuts. Not criticizing LE here, but Fussel has spent the last few days referring to BL as "Brian Landry." For a case of this magnitude of attention, that's unacceptable and doesn't exactly inspire confidence in their attention to detail. These video tidbits just feel like NPPD trying to sanitize their image after the initial missteps.

That said, no doubt the guys directly on the search lines are doing a wonderful job.

Forget the MSM . It appears a FL "plate reader" (presumably electronic tolling device) "saw " Gabby Ford Escort van on 1st Sept as it entered FL , somewhere near Nth port. This suggests Gabby had a Sunpass or similar in the van (which should be visible on the front Wscreen if people look) or on the inside of any piece of vehicle glass.

Plate reader is generic term. ON a toll road you will either have an E tag read or you will pass a plate reader which uses OCR on your "tag plate" after that you will get X days to pay or you will be fined or you will get a reminder notice sent physically or to the cell phone registered the vehical's plate number (depending on the enabling law).

"Sunpass" is a proprietary name for one of the E-tags used for one of the FL tollways. I have never seen the electronic dump that shows this catch of the Escort van but it seems believable. Far more reliable than Wilda$$ed Purple neighbour memory dumps from 2 weeks previously !!! :))

Kidon Gadol

- I am not from FL or even the US of A but have followed the Dan Markel Moyder trial in great ethnic detail (here and on the Various video dumps). Sunpass E-tags on cars are critical in that FL trial. KG

There’s no need for Gabby to have a Sunpass. Any Sunpass toll road in FL will also bill by plate for vehicles w/o Sunpass.

I do. They are already in deep. We don't know what LE knows about their choices and decisions the entire time GP lived with them & during the van trip.

A search warrant would be required but use of the library computers could be evidentiary. I wouldn't rule out anything.

BL's sister is about 9 years older than him so he had a lot of "only child" time at home growing up. With what we know about his lack of independence, I believe they would do anything - anything! - including aiding and abetting.

MOO
IANAL but I wonder if a search warrant would be needed for the library computers. They are owned by the city, public property. Can a lawyer shed some light on this?

So, based on that video, and two contradictory witnesses, you would have thrown Brian in jail?
I don't know...regarding Moab, it has never crossed my mind that he should have went to jail in Moab, but I perceived his behavior to be skittish. But, there was nothing that they could conclude to him needing to be thrown in jail that i could see. It was a tough call, that's really all i'm saying. A lot of self reflection is probably going on in their minds. If he went to jail do I think it would have changed things? No I do not, unless she decided to go home to her folks.
Because if she passed away a few weeks later, there were probably a lot of tenuous moments in that period.
So, I think (IMO) she could have had some more support in that 97 minutes or so, and if it was my daughter, I'd hope LE would make sure she was safe too. I didn't feel that. But we are not privy to what the female ranger said, but a lot of care was getting him to a safe place.

You've got to understand, training is one thing, but acting within the bounds of the law is sometimes something else altogether. Police could know in their gut, 100% without question that a party is in a dangerous situation, but if the laws of the state do not permit them to do anything meaningful, then the training then becomes unimpactful. Keep in mind, they're job is to enforce the laws, not serve as marital counselors.

The training for police should make them aware of the dangers of DV situations, the threats either party is facing, and doing what they can to separate and/or diffuse the conflict.

Real meaningful change is going to come through the laws. I'm not a big fan of just trying to separate them for the night. Personally, I think it should be legislated, that if police are called for a DV situation, there should be a mandatory, 72 hour temporary restraining order on both parties. Keeping them separate and giving parties time to settle and think logically about the situation might lead to fewer people going right back into toxic situations.

Sometimes, I think too much focus is on the 'enforce the laws' aspect of police training and less on the 'diffuse the situation' training that humans get into. Law Enforcement Officer should be interchangeable with Peace Officer. Overall, police organizations are to protect and serve the public. I have a habit of reading police organizations' Mission Statements. They can shed light on how an organization views their role.

'Bias'? 'Benefits'? Neither of those apply.

Bias toward protecting the female. I might have not been clear. That because females are at a big disadvantage physically, they should get the benefit of the doubt, and more protection. And I think mostly they do.

But, thinking out loud, can you imagine what our prisons would look like if LE arrested every person that got into a physical fight? I dont know the solution....

I’ve just spotted something on the body cam footage to help support evidence Brian was controlling her phone. The police officer that was talking to gabby comes over to Brian to ask him where her phone is. - If Gabby knew why would they need to ask Brian.

He then tells the officer that its in a spot whilst gesturing with his hand in a way that looks like he’s showing it’s tucked in somewhere. - what 22 year old doesn’t have their phone on them in a pocket or shoved into their bra.

When he gets her phone out of the car (an iPhone with FaceID) he UNLOCKS the phone with his face and gives it to the officer. - If Gabby had a way into her phone he would not need to unlock it for her! This is at 42 minutes in. He looks at the phone and swipes up.

Omg!! THIs!! Nice catch!

he also says “it’s in a spot” that he has to show them!!

Still surprised the restaurant didn't have cameras in. Not even one.
They did have cameras but when asked by a reporter, the restaurant said the cameras don't go back that far, as in they only keep a certain amount of time on hand before erasing.

Laundrie family attorney Steven Bertolino says Brian left the house on Tuesday without his wallet or cell phone. He says the parents were concerned he might hurt himself.

So concerned about him hurting himself that they waited days to report him missing. Ok.

hypothetical translation of Laundrie family/Bertolino statements:
"he left home without his wallet and phone" --> he has a backpack full of cash and food and has a few burner phones. And there's a stash of supplies out there somewhere to keep him fed and comfy.

"Brian is missing and we're concerned he might hurt himself." --> our attorney said to say this because we want to get ahead of the eventual accusation that we knowingly harbored him and helped him escape

this is all hypothetical and conjecture.

Gosh you're right... Brian was so controlling, no wonder Gabby's recent Instagram posts and captions seem like Brian posted the pics and wrote the captions, even while Gabby was alive

Yet, the neighbor said that they had only just moved in a couple of months before. Gabby lived under a different roof with them - and it appears they were downsizing. BL had to say goodbye to the art he'd done on the walls of his room. I think the VanLife thing was already well under way. So the idea may have been that the parents would get a smaller place (it's a rental) and the kids could go off and adventure around the US.

That's probably why their stuff was in a storage unit - but the cost apparently started to bother them (or some other reason came up, to move the stuff back to the garage). BL's RT airfare wasn't that much - but of course, Gabby's hotel bill had to be significant.

BTW, Gabby did know how to drive the van and did drive it sometimes, according to their SM - she just preferred not to. She says BL did "most of" the driving. Surely she drove the van into Arches after that traffic stop?

Driving on interstates is a bit harrowing, IMO (particularly in Montana and Idaho - where they likely hadn't gone yet - speed limits are often 75 mph and tons of giant semi trucks going that speed - or faster. Strong winds, terribly unprotected turn-outs, it's fine if you're used to it, but most people from FL would not be. They really hadn't done a lot of actual mountain driving - something that may have been planned in advance. Canyonlands to Arches is mostly 55 mph and gently curving, with great marking on the roads and modern pull-outs that don't overlook cliffs (mostly) and have guard rails.
I'm chuckling that the vast out-West driving would be difficult, when I'm sure I'd find the crowded interstates of the South impossible!
If that little white van had a divider between the front seats and the cargo area, that would make me a bit queasy about driving it, too, since you wouldn't be able to use the rear-view mirror. When I rent a UHaul truck, this freaks me out.

Just because he knew how to get into her phone doesn't in and of itself show that he was controlling. MOO.
