How long did Theo plan to stay at the backpacker hostel?
It is strange that the management did not give the alert until six days later.
Does this mean that he had booked for several nights and that no one was worried?
Discover here the feedback from Anna who was paying long term and who gave her opinion on this hostel:

If you read through the reports and thread, the hat was located on Theo’s route to the beach between the Milne track and Tallows beach.

Can you share any news reports regarding “guy died here”?

Interesting reviews on Google.

Behind a paywall

Human remains found at Sleepy hollow 40km from Byron Bay.

Not thought to be Theo. Thought to be connected to a vehicle found at a truck stop recently.

Oh sorry, the remains have likely been identified as not Theo.

I still wonder if Theo will be found drowned in the Cumbebin Swamp which was one of the places searched.

  • He sent two text messages to a friend and his stepsister before going off grid
  • Despite going in another direction, he also searched for ways back to his hostel
  • Theo was using Google Maps to find out how to get back to his hostel Wake Up! at the town's Belongil Beach. However, he was heading in the opposite direction towards Cape Byron on the town's eastern side.
If Theo was disorientated he may have taken a wrong turn and instead of heading back to his hostel instead heading towards Ewingsdale Road/Shirley Street he met is fate in the murky Cumbebin swamp land.

This has also been at the back of my mind with the investigation
Woman saw a man 'looking dead' by the side of a highway wearing the same clothes as Theo Hayez was seen in on the night he disappeared'
Woman says she saw a man wearing the same clothes as Theo Hayez 'looking dead' on a highway | Daily Mail Online

The area was Pacific Highway 10 kilometres (about 6 miles) out of Coffs Harbour, about 4.30am on June 2nd 2019 (Theo went missing on May 31st/early morning 1st June 2019).

Does anyone know the exact spot where the sighting was at all so I can look at the terrain on google maps.

CCTV discovered which the family believes is Theo, puts him on Shirley Street at 11.17pm on the night of his disappearance. This is just meters away from the Belongil Creek/Cumbebin swamp nature reserve.
The last ping from his phone was after this time and more towards the lighthouse but it is the likely Shirley Street/Ewingsdale Road would be the direction he would have under normal circumstances headed back to the hostel.
As far as I know Sonar has been used under there in the swamp in the search for Theo. At the initial beginning of the investigation the swamp was searched though but nothing found.

Theo's cousin Michael Dorkhom revealed he had been given footage by the town's Caltex petrol station (Shirley street : Google Maps) and a nearby guest house, Aloha Byron Bay. The guest house footage shows someone walking on the opposite side of the road right in front of Gosamora Holidays Apartments
and then appearing to stop and look at his phone at 11.17pm.
The person then continues along the pavement.

Would Theo have finally returned to his hostel that night?
Also knowing that Theo was to leave the backpacker hostel on June 3, why did the hostel management only give the alert on June 6?

Is the map data for pings on phones completely accurate as this is what places Theo near the beach. (Thinking to myself about the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 and how the phone pings seemed inaccurate) This article talks about how cell phone date cannot be 100% relied upon. What Your Cell Phone Can’t Tell the Police I will need to look up Gosamora Holidays Apartments on google to see if this fits in with my thoughts of him taking the wrong turn and eventually ending up in the swamp. Could his last phone message have been nearer to the last CCTV sighting rather than where Theo's phone signal was thought to have stopped :(

If CCTV cameras filmed Theo in front of the Gosamara Holiday Apartments and also in front of the Caltex Woolworths gas station,
'Everything matched': Family reveals bombshell CCTV footage in missing backpacker case
how come we don't have images of Theo walking past the companies or hotels on Kendall Street. , street that Theo should have taken to get back to his backpacker hostel.

Have you read the rest of the threads?
There was a lot of discussion on this topic when the footage came out, I think in boards one and two. Also in “the lighthouse” podcast it was apparently established they didn’t believe it was Theo.

Unlocking missing backpacker's phone leads to major breakthrough

The digital data analysed by our experts strongly suggested that 18-year-old Theo Hayez was met with foul play. (Under Investigation)

''Finally one password worked, and a treasure trove of digital evidence was revealed.
At 11.08pm, the last known images of Theo on CCTV show him walking alone with his head hunched over, engrossed in his phone. He then walks out of frame and disappears forever.''

The digital data analysed by our experts strongly suggested that 18-year-old Theo Hayez was met with foul play at the hands of one or more people in the early hours of June 1, 2019.

But added to their investigation was an extraordinary lead that came from the Hayez family's website, set up to receive information from the public.

An anonymous tip suggested that Theo had fallen victim to local drug dealers whose motive may have been theft or worse.

Misadventure or foul play? It would seem from our investigation, the odds are in favour of Theo being in the company of someone else the night he vanished without trace.

Only the police have the power to further follow the digital leads and our investigators said they should be checking mobile carriers to see who else was in the area at the same time as Theo.''
