Deise Moura, Zeli dos Anjos’ 39-year-old daughter-in-law @katydid, was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of three counts of murder and attempted murder.

The case has taken a darker turn, with reports of previous disputes between Zeli and Deise.

Today’s press conference in Capão da Canoa is expected to reveal details of the alleged feud

The suspect researched arsenic on the internet before the incident, officials confirmed to RBS TV.

That'll do it!

Completely sure they've got the right person, now.

I wonder what she felt as she heard the news of each of the other women who died. Did she even have any problem with any of those three or was it just the mother-in-law, who did not die (yet?)?

According to the TJRS, a preliminary report of the data extracted from the suspect's phone shows that there was "search on the internet, including Google shopping, for the term arsenic and the like".

Deise is Zeli dos Anjos' nan-lew, who prepared the cake. She was temporarily arrested on Sunday (5) on suspicion of being responsible for the crime. She is detained in the Women's State Prison of Torres and is responsible for suspicion of double-qualified triple homicide for futile reasons and with the use of poison and triple attempted homicide, doubly qualified.

The arrest is valid for 10 days - a period that must be used by the police to complete the investigation. Deise's defense reported, on Monday (6), that it provided customer service and did not have full access to the ongoing investigation.

Deise's lawyer Cassyus Pontes, speaking for the first time on behalf of his client, said today: 'Everything's all very preliminary.

'There are still questions to be answered. What is the causal link between the poison and Deise?

'There is no explanation of how the flour ended up in Zeli's house, or where or how it was acquired.

'These are minimal questions to indicate the authorship of the facts. Instead, all we have are the accounts of some family members and a supposed extraction of data from a mobile phone.'

Perhaps when Zeli's son Diego married the suspect Deishe, that's when the family disharmony began. Maybe Zeli distrusted and disliked her new daughter-in-law for some reason, and couldn't hide it.

As to Zeli eating 2 pieces of cake, it may have gone like this: her first piece was very small ("I really shouldn't be having this, oh well, just a tiny bit won't hurt", and then "I really shouldn't have any more, but my first piece was so small I'm sure it doesn't count, so I'll just have another tiny tiny piece" - so that in the end her 2 slices may have been equal to everyone else's 1 slice. I speak from experience! :)

I tend to think She had two bites/forkfuls rather than two pieces.

"Body of 'poisoned' late husband of woman who baked 'arsenic-laced' Christmas cake is exhumed by police for testing."

Paulo died without leaving a will and 'with assets' according to his death certificate.

In prosecution papers released to the Brazilian media, it has now been alleged that Moura had taken the bananas to the couple's home as a 'peace offering' after not speaking to her in-laws for three and a half years in an 'attempt at building bridges'.

A source told MailOnline: 'After the bananas incident, Zeli's sister Maida was suspicious and urged her to take the fruit to a lab for testing, but Zeli refused.

Also...

"Police are also probing whether Moura was behind the September poisoning
so she and Diego could inherit the family's assets."

Yep.

Bananas as "peace offering"??

A big box of delicious chocolates and a bottle of good wine would be a better choice IMO.

But then,
more difficult to tamper with.

How long does arsenic stay in a body? I am 100% expecting it to be found in FIL.

RSBM
But would cost more, which she wouldn't want to do.

I wonder how Diego is feeling now.

Mashed bananas as a peace offering after three years, husband dies of suspected food poisoning after eating the bananas….how was this not reported by his wife? How was she not suspicious of Moura after that? JMO and thoughts.

...and that box of delicious chocs and fine wine be nice and easy to slip a dose of poison into...

Not sure I'd have accepted anything edible from this person. Or anything, really, without thorough inspection. In retrospect, any estrangement from her was likely the safest path.
