I think DIL only wanted to make up with her parentsinlaw to have access to them. After about 3 years estrangement she had decided to kill them, and realised she needed to "kiss and makeup" to have the opportunity.

It’s all so evil.

Not only did she kill and traumatize those she poisoned, she has blown up her own child’s world. So despicable.

Deise Moura, Zeli dos Anjos’ 39-year-old daughter-in-law @katydid, was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of three counts of murder and attempted murder.

The case has taken a darker turn, with reports of previous disputes between Zeli and Deise.

Today’s press conference in Capão da Canoa is expected to reveal details of the alleged feud

The suspect researched arsenic on the internet before the incident, officials confirmed to RBS TV.

Thanks for the updates, @imstillagrandma !

When will people learn before committing a crime to not look it up online ??

The plot thickens. Remember that the alleged murderer's father-in-law died after eating some bananas last year? Well it turns out that the bananas were also laced with arsenic:

There are so many things that would degrade after months in the grave. Arsenic is not one of them. It's inorganic, and its crystals sparkle like diamonds under a pathologist's scope, even after a long, long time.

Deise isn't just a poisoner, she's a very foolish one. Any of her internet searches, with a minimum of effort, could have told her how easy arsenic was to detect when people are looking for it. But like all poisoners, she thought she was far more clever than she actually is.

Stick a fork in her, she's done.

This is the first I have heard that Zeli also ate the contaminated bananas that killed her husband. She was sick but survived.

So...

According to DM
the feud started years ago when mother (Zeli) took some money from son's (Diego) bank account without telling him.
Eventually,
she paid the money back,
but disagreement remained.

How can someone take money from somebody's bank account?
There is a password for protection.
Was it a joint family account?

Well,
the root of this tragedy seems money.

As the saying goes:

"When no one knows what it's all about,
it's probably/most likely about money"

"Forensic tests
on the body of a man exhumed after his daughter in law was arrested for a Christmas cake triple murder
have confirmed he had traces of arsenic in his body.

Confirmation that arsenic was found in his body
was leaked to Brazilian media overnight
but further details are expected to be revealed at a press conference later on Friday."

You can't just take money out of someone else's bank account, it must have been a joint account. Although it sounds like the DIL didn't see it that way.

4 deceased and possibly all were murdered ?
Would this count as a serial killer or at least one in the making ?

Rest in peace to the innocent people killed by this twisted perp. :(

Two questions:

1- What did the husband know and when did he know it?

2- How did Deise keep her son from getting ill? Did he not eat the cake and if not, how did she manage it without everyone in the family immediately becoming suspicious?

Actually, forget question number two. After reading through the posted articles, nowhere does it say that Deise, Diego and their son were at the event where the cake was served. I think Deise poisoned the flour at some point in the past and just waited for Zeli to cook with it.

Finding arsenic in the husbands body is no surprise. We pretty much saw that coming. The DIL has been plotting this for a while.
What an evil lady. That poor family!

I wonder if the 3 that were hospitalized are still in the hospital? If so, are they aware of developments such as the arrest? Did Deise try to visit any of them in the hospital prior to her arrest? Did her own husband and child visit Zeli's house prior to the incident? Were they under orders to never eat anything at Zeli's? Or was Deise ok with the idea that her husband and child might also be collateral damage? (Asking based on the assumption that the flour was poisoned and flour can be used to thicken sauces, as a part of breading, etc. so it may have been used in other dishes, not just a holiday cake.)

Deise Moura Dos Anjas has been found dead in her prison cell this morning.

So sad for the family that they’ll never get justice

Did someone send her some of the Christmas cake?

But seriously that's quite a surprise and a shame the family won't get justice.

Thanks for posting this, you beat me to it. :)

Agreed about the family not getting justice.
Awful !
Looks like an admission of guilt, imo ?

The husband of the Brazilian woman accused of killing three relatives with a poisoned Christmas cake had told her he wanted a divorce 24 hours before she was found dead in her prison cell, it emerged today.

Deise Moura dos Anjos' partner Diego is said to have sent a lawyer to the jail in Guaiba near the southern Brazilian city of Porto Alegre to tell her yesterday he wanted out of their marriage.

I hope he doesn't feel guilty in any way.
