Investigator in Grand Junction Ted Bundy case still haunted by alleged murder

Investigators believe Oliverson was biking home in April of 1975 when she was murdered by Bundy under the 5th Street bridge, just miles away from her parent's house. She was 24-years-old.

The next day, police found her bike, shoes and belt under that bridge near the railroad tracks but never found her body. They did, however, confirm that Bundy had been to a gas station nearby the day of Oliverson's disappearance.

The Colorado River downstream of Grand Junction, where Denise's body was allegedly placed, runs largely through rugged canyon country. While the river itself has a busy boating season, the surrounding wilderness is vast and mostly roadless public land which sees very light traffic. Much of the river and it's banks are accessible only by boat.

Bodies that have gone into the Colorado at Grand Junction have often been recovered 40-50+ miles downstream near Cisco in Utah. It is possible that there are discoverable remains of Denise somewhere out there, but they would likely be scattered or partial at this point, unfortunately.

Hopefully they can find them. They found Debra Kent so it’s definitely possible.

She comes to mind every time I'm out there and I always keep an eye out.

About this Case:

On April 6, 1975, Denise Oliverson set out on a bicycle ride from her home at 1619 LaVeta Street en-route to her parents house. The next day, a search party found her bicycle and shoes under the Fifth Street Bridge, near the railroad tracks. She was last seen wearing a green long-sleeved Indian print blouse and dark Levi pants. Authorities suspect that Ms. Oliverson was killed by serial killer Ted Bundy. In 1989, days before his execution, Ted Bundy told investigators he had disposed of a body in a river about five miles West of Grand Junction, Colorado. A time-line created by the FBI places Ted Bundy in Grand Junction through April of 1975. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to please contact the Grand Junction Police Department
