Forrest County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Phillip Hendricks said the remains were found in a wooded area off JC Bryant Road.
Hattiesburg Police Department’s Crime Scene Unit helped deputies process the area where the remains were found.
The remains were collected by the coroner’s office and taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Jackson for autopsy and possible identification.
It is unclear how long the remains had been in the area or whether foul play was suspected.
