NEWS RELEASE: Update on Naperville Police Search for Missing Adult

On Monday, Aug. 4, Naperville Police conducted a systematic search of Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve in an effort to locate Olasinmibo “Sinmi” Abosede, 46, of Naperville, who was reported missing on Wednesday, July 30.

The search was conducted with the assistance of the Naperville Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and area law enforcement. More than 40 trained volunteers, eight K9 teams, and multiple experienced police drone operators participated in the search. While today’s search did not lead officials to Abosede’s whereabouts, the Naperville Police Department’s efforts to locate Abosede will continue.

Detectives have been following up on leads, searching the area, and investigating Abosede’s whereabouts since she was reported missing by family on Wednesday.

Abosede was last seen at approximately 9:20 a.m. on July 30 walking away from her home on the 2100 block of Sudbury Street in Naperville. She is described as a black female with black hair and brown eyes, standing 5 foot 6 inches tall and weighing 190 pounds. Abosede was last seen wearing a long-sleeved black Adidas jacket, grey sweatpants, a black head scarf, and black Crocs. She was carrying a white water bottle, and apparently left her cell phone, credit cards and other personal items behind.

Foul play is not suspected in her disappearance.

“I understand that the uncertainty surrounding Sinmi’s disappearance is concerning, and I assure you that this department is doing everything we can to find Sinmi,” said Police Chief Jason Arres. “We will continue to follow up on any leads and lean on the expertise of our partners at NEMA and surrounding law enforcement agencies, who I want to thank for their dedicated efforts today.

“We know there are a lot of community members who want to help, too,” Chief Arres continued. “I would ask that they continue to circulate Sinmi’s picture and keep their eyes open as they travel throughout the region. The more eyes we have looking out for her, the better.”

If you see Abosede, please call 9-1-1 immediately to report her location. Anyone with information regarding her disappearance is asked to call the Naperville Police Investigation’s Division at 630-548-1421.

The Naperville Police Department will communicate any major developments in this case but does not intend to provide regular updates on the status of the investigation.

I'm glad they've got more information - yesterday I couldnt find much of anything other than her name and the city she was seen in from our news here in Chicago. Here's a google picture of her street - nice area and people probably have door cams which hopefully LE is having them check. Street View · Google Maps

Sinmi took a water bottle with her. Was she just going for a morning walk before it got too hot later in the day? I see that there is a trail through Springbrook Forest Preserve that is fairly close to her house. It's not a huge forest preserve and it's not all that forested, but has a lot of "natural grassland".

Seems like a logical destination - look like she was prepared for a walk and that looks like a nice walking trail.

LE doesn't suspect foul play - so do they know something?

From the video at this news link, LE set up their search command center in the Staples parking lot. The lot backs onto the Springbrook Prairie forest park/preserve that I mentioned up-thread.

There is also drone footage of the park.

I first wondered about the adidas jacket, but I recall the last two days of July were a "cool spell" here in Chicgoland - the high was in the low 80's and it was about 70 at night. Mornings were definately a bit chilly in comparison to the day prior when it had been in the 90's and humid.

For privacy I won't link her exact address but her residence appears to be a townhouse based on the mortgage information I found in DuPage County. https://recorder.dupageco.org/Search.aspx
The home was purchased according to realty records in 2023 with the mortgage transaction listed in July 2023 for $550,000. The other party on the mortgage with her has same last name, is age 48, so I'm guessing spouse. Can't find any employment or community links for her at all. (some people don't post that information on social media, I know I don't).

Rooting for Sinmi to be located safe today or tomorrow.

Has anyone seen any comments from family or friends about Sinmi's disappearance?

Where are you Sinmi? People are worried about you.

Only a couple FB shares from a possible friend and a former classmate who lives in another state. No info, just sharing the missing info. I've not seen any comments or interviews with immediate family in the local news.

Very unusual city to go missing. Known as an extremely safe, and quite ritzy, city. Springbrook Prairie is a grassland preserve, so tall native grass everywhere with a gravel trail. It's quite popular but if you went off trail for some reason, I could see how one wouldn't be found. There's also a brook and marsh land in there.

Why isn't there more info about Sinmi? Why isn't her family speaking up? Was she going through a mental health crisis? Did she regularly go for long walks?

Not much info from LE, which makes me wonder.

"Foul play is not suspected in her disappearance."

Wonder why they say that??

By Monday, Aug. 4, authorities conducted a thorough search of Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve in hopes of discovering the whereabouts of Abosede, who is classified as a missing endangered person.

Do they know she is suicidal and they are just not sharing it? Or are they saying no Foul Play because they want someone to feel like they are safe??

Is that the only search they have done? If yes, why didn't they start extensively searching as soon as she was reported missing? I hope she is ok. I'm frustrated that there hasn't been more searching and reporting on Sinmi.

I'm afraid that is what they're getting at.

I live in Chicago. There's been a LOT of searching, just not a lot of media coverage about it. Starting to see some updates on that though. Mom of 4 Went Missing a Week Ago. Nobody Has Found Her After Nearly 2,000-Acre Forest Search The fact that her family had nothing on the media (news or social) at ALL about her being missing to me meant the were aware of some circumstances of the disappeaerance we weren't and were communicating that to LE, but not the public. I understand that and respect their privacy, especially if it's (possibly) a mental health issue (she has 4 children).
