IN -Man who crawls from ditch days after fatal crash answers lingering quest

  • #41
They can tell from the autopsy if she died right away or not.
From what is being reported, she died on impact.
I think he might have been acting the way he did because he isn't supposed to have been driving because his license was suspended. He is facing a number of charges. Still pretty bizarre, I wonder why he didn't try to claim she was the one driving.

"Also according to the affidavit, Bell said he was driving the vehicle after Reed “got tired,” despite having a suspended license."

Golly Gee... his story keeps evolving ..... Earlier stories say he initially asked Nikki to drive from the start-- but she didn't hear him and sat in the passenger seat.
KB's account keeps coming back to her and somehow she keeps getting blamed.
Kind of unfair to her as she's DEAD and cannot defend herself.

KB hasn't been consistent since day one !

Bell, 39, said he had been driving and that Reed, 37, had taken off her seatbelt and was rubbing his body when the vehicle left the road and crashed. (emphasis mine)

What. The. **** ? Oh, and here I was under the assumption Nikki was showing him photos on her phone--- the phone he was unable to locate, because, you know-- the crash had disoriented him so much ?
Cannot keep up with Mr. Bell's version of events.

From above link : In a probable-cause affidavit filed in Jennings County court, authorities allege that Bell failed to contact police to report the fatality despite having cellphone access and a signal. Bell was driving on a suspended license and had an outstanding warrant for his arrest in Pennsylvania on a harassment charge,(emph. mine)
Bell was released from an Indianapolis-area hospital earlier this week. Indiana State Police spokesman Sgt. Stephen Wheeles said police are "actively trying to locate him."

Wonder what that harassment charge is for ?

His mother Gloria (--with whom KB was residing) says KB was transferred to a different hospital-- so it's strange he can't be located by the state police.

After hitting the tree, Bell said, Reed looked like she was breathing for a matter of seconds before the point where he thought she died, documents state.

"...he thought she died..." So she didn't die instantly ?
And his only text was to his boss -- not to 911 ? Her life could have been saved, in other words.

Since KB is not a medical professional-- how would he know if she was dead, unconscious, or in a coma ?

Also from this link --he carried more of his belongings than his two bowling balls , and managed to crawl out of the rear passenger door, and up an embankment with all of it ; despite suffering a broken leg and 'being disoriented'. Quite a feat.

According to documents released Wednesday, Bell told officials that Reed “rubbed him” and “distracted him,” causing him to crash.

Again with "it was her fault" :(

This is such a weird situation.

This is such a weird situation.

I'm waiting for the one piece to fall into place where we all go "Ohhhh, that explains it."

Like a confirmed serious head injury or a life insurance policy. One way or another!

By "rubbing," does anyone else think he meant, like, stroking his _______? That can be rather distracting from what I've... heard. Maybe her seatbelt was off so she could... get a better angle so too speak?

His continuous blaming of her is so freaking hinky! Well, so much of the entire story is so freaking hinky! If you really can only get one text out, why not put more information in it that would give you the chance at help? Like a location? Why not mention to 1st responders you'd been in an accident? The whole thing stinks. It seems so weird to do pretty much any of the things he did, and while a concussion might explain some, it wouldn't necessarily explain why he seemed cognitively deficient in some areas while still managing to identify his own belongings to rescue from the wreckage.

It seems far fetched that someone would purposefully cause a wreck that they're also involved in... Very risky, but far fetched or not that's where my hinky meter is pointing.

It would be interesting to know what he told the first person to talk to him after the accident.

Did they not wonder what he was doing --dehydrated and injured-- there by the interstate ?
Was he sitting, standing, or dragging himself along ? (Well, KB -- plus his two bowling balls, as well as any other of his possessions .)

If he didn't mention at first that he was involved in a crash --did he give the person or emergency services that transported him to the hospital any explanation ?
Maybe he pretended to have been the victim of a hit-and-run.

There was a case where a pastor crashed his vehicle at low speeds and claimed his second wife had died in the crash. His first wife died while using a shop vacuum on her stairs. He is currently incarcerated for the second wife's demise and some consider his first wife's death to be suspicious.

The earlier harassment charge against KB was from an ex-girlfriend over some of his possessions that hadn't been returned. Guess he likes his things.

It's hard to tell from the photos how fast the car was going when it hit the tree. In one photo-- both airbags seem to be deployed ; afaik.

Unless he was also hoping to die in the crash.

One thing that sticks out to me in this story is that they met in May, right? and this crash happened in September... But apparently they were so close that Reed was referring to Bell as, "My husband?"

According to who? That seems a little quick to me... I mean, maybe she was doing that, or maybe he's making it up.

I have no doubt he was making that up. (JMO)

However he was driving Reed's Ford Explorer while the couple was on U.S. 50 in Jennings County when, Bell said, Reed showed him a picture on her phone.(Emph. mine)
Back to the picture story.

"I was in tears Saturday and Sunday," Bell said. "I wasn't going to attempt to get out of the truck because I was too shook up and plus I was in so much pain, so I stayed in the truck."

Surely he had to get out of the vehicle to use the bathroom ?

Indiana State Police said they later realized there was a newly-issued warrant for Bell's arrest out of Pennsylvania for not appearing in court. WAVE 3 News discovered that stemmed back to a harassment charge.

“I completely forgot about that,” Bell said.

Mr. Bell apparently suffers from a selective memory.

Looked around and couldn't find any more info. on if le have located him. One would assume he can't get far with a healing broken leg or whatever.
From the above link he's still in the hospital.

Bell was hospitalized in an Indianapolis area hospital for treatment of his injuries after the incident until being released earlier this week.

So KB was released.

Just some sloppy reporting from above link.
Couldn't find anything else thus far.

—Police in Indiana are looking for a York County man who crawled for help after a crash that killed his girlfriend.

From earlier articles-- KB lived with his mother. Maybe the authorities need to talk to her and see if she knows something ?

He said that he wanted to be cautious because people told him how dangerous that road was.

But wouldn't he know that if he traveled with her down there before.

Was it that particular road the only option available?

I don't know. But blaming the victim is the only road he has chosen to go down. Lol

But imo. The guy clearly waited the 3 days to get the alcohol or drugs out of his system.

He probably spent some time burying a 12 pack of beer and open containers as well.

Interesting and highly likely !
Somewhat tempting to think about going down to the crash site with a metal detector -- never know what one might find.

It's certain he didn't spend those days sitting there in her vehicle -- crying, dazed, or whatever. I think he spent that time doing something.

Lots of info here.
http://www.ydr.com/story/news/crime/2016/09/28/dover-man-charged-crash-killed-girlfriend/91235740/

Police say that they believe Bell would have left the scene without informing the authorities about the crash and Reed. One of the reasons they cite is because he had a warrant out for his arrest in Pennsylvania for failing to appear for harassing communications.
According to online court records and Bell’s mother, he was charged with harassment over the summer.
The charge stems from an exchange of text messages between Bell and his ex-girlfriend regarding the return of his belongings, Bell’s mother said. He paid a fine for the case but didn’t know he had to go and appear in court, his mother said.

Interesting in how his story continually changes every day or so. Instead of Nikki distracting him by showing him a photo, now he says she was rubbing him in a, umm, "romantic" way.

Oh, and his mommy is firmly in his corner.
