Imho that house is chilling even with all the renovations. It is haunting, peculiar, cold, odd.

I get very bad vibes from the pictures.....

TASTE OF HONEY, some parts of the video did bother me also, specifically photos #56 (the room TOTALLY DEVOID of furnishings ie the hanging room) and #57 (the long narrow walk way to the hanging room) NOW THAT WAS REALLY SCAAAARY! I kept thinking to myself....I would never want to walk down that narrow hallway if I was all by myself in a big house late at night! The music (piano tinkling in the background sounded like the music one would hear in the waiting room of a funeral home, no?) The lyrics of Stairway to Heaven kept going through my head [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHFxncb1gRY"]Stairway to Heaven Led Zeppelin Lyrics - YouTube[/ame] IMO. Although there appears to be no changes to the height of the bannister railings....it does appear the new chandelier has been raised at least 4 feet higher than the old one. (don't know if that is significant, but it is definately a lot higher) in photo #61. No matter how the real estate agents market the property, it has so much sadness/stigma attached to it. I don't think I have ever seen a property, with so much tragedy, ask for a 30% INCREASE from the owner! If it were my decision to make (which of course it is not) I would have walked away and let the bank have it back.

I have to say, I love the new look of the place, much cleaner and nicer IMO. I always felt the home seemed way outdated and needed these updates yrs ago. I would love to see some ghost hunters at that home. If I were rich I would buy it myself. I don't recall the pool there before but perhaps it was. I don't know that the height of the bannisters was ever an issue I thought all bannisters were roughly the same height isn't 32 inches what they come in now days?

I actually like the added designs to the Spreckels mansion. It makes it more modern and welcoming, particularly the new pool. But I'd have liked for the hanging balcony to have been removed. I think it's disrespectful to Rebecca for Jonah to have kept that balcony.

I would not buy the house because of the gruesome deaths. Too morbid for my taste.

I think the codes for balcony/bannister/staircase heights have evolved over time. In the olden days people were shorter so the height requirements for these structures would likely have been lower -- if there were any codes written at the time of Spreckels. You can check with the International Building Codes for history.

Awesome! Thank you so much.

The floor plan at this site is also much clearer, though some of the rooms have changed.

Looking at all the pictures makes me more convinced this was a murder. There were at least 10 different locations (pipes in the basement, interior railings, rafters on the walkways etc) where a person could commit a suicide. (forgive me for even writing those words...for every life is precious) Who in a million years commits such an act by LOOPING A SLIP KNOT THROUGH A BED RAIL?? A BED RAIL! It doesn't make sense...since there are so many other more stable structures in a large house..even the railing on the balcony. I was also drawn to photo #97 (the gate NR did-not-touch?) and noticed the large bougainvillea in that corner. Those plants have a lot of sharp thorns...would scratches occur on someone's back if they were pushed up against it? Also, (maybe not part of this thread...but) who ties themselves up with a series of FIGURE 8 KNOTS, over and over again? Most people only know how to tie a simple knot. Why so much, too much, and inconsistent action?? The link to the photo is "significant" in that it reflects a figure 8 pattern between "two pegs" and strange knotting in the middle. Look at the photo of how the loops and "strange knotting in the middle" are THE SAME as the picture of Rebecca's hands. The cord comes out of the middle after an extraneous loop. NO COINCIDENCE! http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-163...-boats-and-docks-to-which-ropes-are-tied.html

Do we know which guesthouse bedroom AS slept in that night? Also, am I correct in understanding the guesthouse has two floors? Maybe a bedroom below the main floor?

There are 2 bedrooms on the ground floor of the guesthouse, one on each side of the living room. Yes, there is another bedroom upstairs plus bath and closet.

According to one of the SW (sorry, not going to look it up at moment), one bedroom had his clothing and suitcase, the other bedroom had an unmade bed IIRC. We don't know which room he actually slept in..

That is another totally odd thing with this case, is that why isn't the very simplest information provided? The easy answers, the provable answers are even withheld. That doesn't make any sense at all. If LE can prove something, don't they always, if not usually, put it out there? Especially when they are having a press conference to tell the world what happened? Why all the smoke and mirrors? I hope the Z family's suit moves quickly so that all is known and some sense can be made of all these non-answers.

INTHEDARK14...That is a "real hot topic" for sure. Simple things such as proof there were ONLY 2 people at the house at the time of MS's accident. Couldn't someone have caused/witnessed the accident and simply walked out the back door? Thereby leaving RZ and XZ thinking they were the only ones in the house...or protecting someone because they were implored? (So many possibe scenarios in an "unwitnessed" accident. How many children drown in swimming pools?...no one hears a thing even when there are lots of people in the household) I have also wondered why "it has been spoken" about that RZ can be heard talking to someone (ie "the dog"? MAYBE it was another adult.."shh, shh, calm down") I thought about that when I was talking on the phone to a neighbor and she said, "Be quiet, can't you see I am busy." "Okay, I can hang up if you are busy", and she giggled, "Not you! I was talking to the dog!" Frankly, it can be quite difficult to discern whether words are directed at a person or at a pet: Calm down- don't be so loud- not now- get off my sofa-did you miss me-who made this mess (We were always trying to figure out if my Mom was talking to the dogs or us!)
And RZ was not the only one at the house the night she died! Why didn't Gore make that announcement or say, "you'll have to talk to AB about that, too!" Nope, he only referred to AB on items he thought would embarrass or intimidate the Zahau family. Why didn't he say, "NR was also at the house that night."?? And so was AS. So it does not surprise me when Goodwin(?) also asserted he could identify both a boot and a woman's shoe print on the balcony. Suddenly, 2 sets of items (knives, cups etc) were found in the balcony room makes a lot of sense, huh? All of it is just too darned coincidental and adds to the continuing mystery of what might have occurred.
