The Earnhardt family was on their way to Bristol Speedway. A pilot and co-pilot also survived the crash.

The family dog was on board with Dale, wife Amy, and one year old daughter Isla.

Interesting, it says the pilots attempted a go-around after the second bounce, but the plane didn't respond properly. Wonder what that means. The third contact on the runway left them with only 1,000 ft of runway left. I'm not an expert, but it sounds like they came in too fast and/or too high.

Clear weather, no wind, cloud ceiling at 4,500 ft.
