Police are investigating the deaths of two young boys at a remote Indigenous community in central Queensland.
The boys, aged two and three, were found in cars in Woorabinda, about 520 kilometres north-west of Brisbane, on Friday night.

“Initial investigations indicate a two-year-old boy was located in a parked vehicle on Richardson Street before being presented to Woorabinda Hospital around 7.48pm, where he was pronounced deceased,” police said in a statement.
“Around 9.15pm, police have attended the address and located a three-year-old boy in a car. The child was taken to hospital, where he was also pronounced deceased.”

Police said a crime scene had been declared as detectives worked to determine what had happened to the toddlers.
Central Region Crime Coordinator Darrin Shadlow was expected to provide an update later on Saturday.

Found separately, but at the same address. Allegedly.

Two young boys were found dead inside a car in the backyard of their family home.

The two-year-old boy was discovered unconscious and not breathing on the backseat of the car by family members and was rushed to the Woorabinda Hospital at 7.48pm.

Paramedics met the boy and a rescue helicopter was on standby but they were unable to resuscitate him and he was declared dead.

When Queensland Police officers attended the property and inspected the car at about 9.15pm, they found the three-year-old boy lying in the rear footwell.

'He wasn't seen by the residents when they located the first child,' Central Region Crime Coordinator Darrin Shadlow said.

Mr Shadlow confirmed the boys were related but not siblings during a press conference on Saturday.

Mr Shadlow said their cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

'At this stage we're still conducting investigations, they hadn't travelled in that vehicle - it was in the rear yard of the residence,' he said.

'It appears that it's a tragic accident where the children have, somehow, gotten into the vehicle and had been there for some time.

'... Early investigations do indicate it was heat related.'

Mr Shadlow said the car was an unused vehicle which sat in the family's backyard.

It's electric systems, including the windows, did not work.

One child was located deceased in a car on a property and they [Qld police] reported then finding the child’s young relative also decreased in the car hours later.

Sky News:

The first child was found in the vehicle on the property at approximately 6:30pm, the second child was found at 9:15pm by police in the same car on the same day, at the same property.

Did the police not search the car the first time?

QldPOL:

I’ve referenced this podcast, Dying Rose, because the reporters go out to aboriginal communities around Australia and look at the way police investigate those deaths.

This tragic situation in Woorabinda made me instantly think of Dying Rose.

I hope that the public can keep the pressure on for these tragic deaths to be fully investigated.

My heart goes out to all of the families in Woorabinda today, and to the paramedics who had to witness these scenes.

Central Queensland News published this update from Queensland Police:

Listening to this police update: It infers civilians found the 2 year old child and took them to the hospital themselves, without calling 000.

Then the hospital staff alerted police who then visited the property and the car around 9.15pm.

All imo

The first male child found was allegedly 2 years of age, with the second male child found was 3 years of age.

The car was apparently an unused vehicle that was just situated somewhere on the property.

Such vehicles are commonly found on property in the bush.

It wasn’t a car that had been recently driven, or driven to the property that day etc., I suppose some of this detail will feature in the ensuing investigation.

AFAIK

How do you lose a 2 and 3 year old long enough for them to die in a car? Where were their parents/carers?

How long did it take police to cordon-off this crime scene after the first child arrived at the local hospital, presumably deceased?

I guess that might be within the scope of the police investigation.
