TX - Trial of Robert Durst in the murder of Morris Black

Oh gosh this chic on HLN cannot believe that he would go into a restroom and ramble on like he did. I guess she didn't watch the whole series because he did it in one of the earlier episodes where they had to tell him that his mic was hot.

Why is it that the talking heads who play devil's advocate always have to scream?

talking about him possibly being connected to some long island cases, but was dismissed. Hmmmmm. I think they better go and re-open some cold cases.

He was referring to him being a suspect in the Long Island serial killings. Big non secret here on Long Island is the POI comitted suicide. It wasn't Durst.

I don't think the insanity defense will work. I think he's nuts, but knows right from wrong.
My speculation is it will just be an all out "not guilty" plea and let the State prove it's case. Something along those lines was hinted at last night on Fox News.

MOO

The guy, sorry forgot his name on NG said the FBI was investigating him for the serial killings on Long Island found on the beach. There were ,I believe , 10 bodies found. All were prositutes and one was a toddler, believed to be the child of one of the women.

The talking heads are explaining away his confession. Fine, if you wanna go there. BUT, HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THE LETTER?

Prudence is Prudence Farrow, Mia Farrow' younger sister. It was reported that Durst was seeing PF at the time of his first wife's disappearance.

Robert Durst, charged with murder in Los Angeles, booked on gun possession charges in New Orleans
By Heather Nolan, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune
on March 16, 2015 at 8:12 PM, updated March 17, 2015 at 12:38 AM

Robert Durst has been booked in New Orleans on charges of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and being in possession of a firearm with a controlled dangerous substance, Louisiana State Police Trooper Melissa Matey said Monday (March 16).

Matey said when Durst was arrested Saturday, he was in possession of a small amount of marijuana. State police obtained a warrant for the gun possession charges Monday afternoon, she said.

Durst was booked Saturday in New Orleans on an outstanding murder warrant out of Los Angeles County. He is accused in the December 2000 death of his friend, Susan Berman.

Here's a recent recap. Despite rumors, the murders are far from solved. (Personally, I don't believe Durst is LISK.)

We have an entire sub-forum dedicated to the LISK here:

Hi Bessie,

Have you heard / read how the arrest happened in New Orleans on Sat night? Was he at his apt/residence in N.O.? Or was he out and about that evening. Just wondering as I haven't heard arrest details.

Thanks. And Happy St. Paddy's to All.

He did rent an apartment here back in 2001, but on Saturday night, he was arrested at the Marriott Hotel on Canal Street. As far as I know, he was a hotel guest.

Durst was apprehended in the lobby the JW Marriott hotel on Canal Street and did not resist arrest, Los Angeles FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said. But why he came to New Orleans, and how long he'd been here, was not immediately clear.

He had rented an apartment in New Orleans in the past, and fled to the Crescent City in 2001 while on trial for murdering his neighbor in a Galveston, Texas, flophouse, according to the Times-Picayune archives. A private investigator found Durst that time after he called his lawyer from a payphone at Memorial Hospital's Baptist campus in Uptown.

When Durst was released on bail after being charged with killing Black, he skipped his arraignment. A nationwide manhunt for the real estate scion-turned-fugitive commanded tabloid headlines for months.

And New Orleans police were part of the hunt. On Oct. 31, 2001, New Orleans police told The Times-Picayune that their search started after a call to Durst's attorney was traced back to a pay telephone in the lobby of what was then Memorial Medical Center's Baptist campus on Napoleon Avenue.

At the time, Durst was likely living nine blocks away in a sunny, second-floor apartment fronting Napoleon in the Broadmoor neighborhood. According to a New York Post article, he had rented a room in the 3800 block of Napoleon in March 2001 under the alias Diane Winne.

Many thanks for the update Bessie. On Sunday's Judge Jeanine on Fox when she was discussing case (maybe it has been noted here already, apologies if so), but it was mentioned that LE were alerted that he was trying to get to Cuba from N.O. so he could not be extradited (and had started plan to have finances there). Sorry if old news.

It's possible, but if that was his plan he missed the first direct flight from NOLA to Cuba (since 1958) on Saturday. There are no regular flights scheduled at this time that I'm aware of, so I'm not so sure that was his plan. Unless he thought he could buy his way onto Saturday's flight at the last minute and was turned down. Those arrangements were made long ago for a select group. There are other less obvious ways to obtain offshore passage for one who has the money.

Yes, no direct flights for regular citizens from N.O (that would be nice). Judge Jeanine show just mentioned that he was in N.O. and was planning on getting to Cuba (soon) and LE knew they had to get him now since Cuba doesn't extradite. How he planned on getting there from N.O. was not mentioned (I assumed via Caymans, etc.).
