This is very frustrating as the VT Public Portal does not apply to criminal cases -- only viewing Civil Case summaries.

Anonymous public users and members of the general public can view case summaries for Civil Division and Judicial Bureau cases remotely. Document viewing and access to all other public case types (criminal, family, probate and others) is available to the general public only at courthouse public access terminals.

As to the links provided here for both Martell and Martell Jr., it appears that neither case note Judge Katims or public defender Rosanna Chase (of record) in the details(???)

And searching Markell Jr Criminal Case 24-CR-07731 results in hearings with 3 different Judges (Katims, Maley, and Arms) which I find very odd.

IMO, for the subject defendant, I think there will be two case numbers for each arrest i.e., July 22, lewd conduct charge, and July 25, aggravated murder where each criminal case number will originate with 24 (year of the offense).

And then this displays for both Martell and Martel JR on the same date/time/courtroom:

Roberta's daughter shared a video of her mother on FB. Oh man, right in the feels. To think of what her last moments on this earth were like. As true crime followers, we read about horrible cases all of the time, but having a hard time processing this one. Love to her family & eagerly awaiting justice.

His weight of the evidence hearing scheduled for Wednesday was temporarily waived after a key state police witness was not able to testify in court.

Martell is due back in court next month.

I know her obit was attached up thread...but I just wanted to post again for a bit of reflection on Roberta....my eyes swelled up big time.
She just had to be a very very loved woman. For so many of us...she just appears to be a "favorite and very loved Auntie"...


With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Mom, Roberta Mae (Mosier) Martin, 82 years young, of Enosburg, who was taken from us too soon in July of 2024.
She was born on February 27, 1942 to the late Glen Mosier, Sr and Pearl (Elliott) Mosier in Catskill, NY and grew up in Jeffersonville, VT on their family farm.

In their retirement, they moved to Enosburg where they resided for 24 years. She cared for Bud as he progressed with Alzheimer's until his final breath. She did this effortlessly, with love and was such a blessing to many. She brought immeasurable joy and light into our lives with her radiant smile, loved unconditionally with pure gentleness.

This is one of the worst cases I’ve read on here - what a beautiful lady with a lovely smile.

It makes me sick thinking of her last hours on this earth being sexually assaulted by a monster.

I hope she’s reunited in her husbands arms now.

I assume the status hearing happened but can't confirm since the Court Calendar for the Franklin Criminal Division is live and I can't pull up December 4. That said, the next status hearing is scheduled for March 17.

Jury draw is now set for November. Martell is due back in court for another hearing in June.

Jury draw for man accused of murdering 82-year-old woman pushed back to November

Martell's attorney requested the court push the trial back two months because she is also representing a suspect in a Chittenden County homicide case right now.
